  1. Thank you Clive, it is clear from your picture that the indicators are shown. You will however need to keep a log of the dates on the CO2 cylinders and the activators. I think you should have had a 3 year useage with those jackets. I renewed ours when I was down on the boat and we do not need to worry with ours until June 2016 (dates shown on all of the newley fitted activators) unless any are discharged. Regards Alan
  2. Any form of jacket for a dog is good as long as it has a handle on the top; this ideal for smaller dogs where you can just lift out of the water and with the larger dogs you can aid them to get to safety even if you can not lift them. We first saw these many years ago when we were on the Broads out of season, we got talking to a chap with a Freeman at Ranworth Staithe who had been trying to get back to his mooring above Ludham Bridge, but tides and water levels were against him. His wife joined him with their two Scotties (both with their jackets on). I never knew if they managed to get back to their moorings. Regards Alan
  3. Maybe Clive could post a picture of the new life jackets showing the window and more importantly, what can be seen, I would assume that the two green indicators can be seen and maybe the renewal date of the activator. Regards Alan
  4. Hi Alan, The service kit (basically all the seals) for the Eberspacher is just under £70. We have had heating in Ranworth Breeze since around 2007/8 which was fitted with three outlets. One of our owners services this each year. If you have problems after fitting a used unit you can get a service replacement guaranteed for 12 months for around £300 to £350. Here is some information on Eberspacers. Regards Alan airtronicD2+D4_technical.pdf D2%20D4%20Operating%20&%20Install%20Booklet.pdf marine_installation_22278.pdf
  5. Tan was bombing along nicely at 6mph in a 6mph stretch when she was given a warning by the B.A. it would seem that the we were being pushed along with nearly a 2mph tide, she was clocked at 7.5mph by satellite navigation. She still keeps getting ribbed about it. Regards Alan
  6. Hi Grace, Our favourite spots on the Southern Broads are Loddon, Bramerton Green, Reedham Ferry, Surlingham Broad and Beccles. On the Northern Broads our preferred spots Womak Staithe, South Walsham Broad, the green at Stokesby and outside the Hotel Wroxham. I totally agree with you regarding relaxing at the end of the day with a tipple or glass of your choice and watch the world go by. Regards Alan
  7. There is to be an informal Freeman Boat Meet on Ranworth Island on Saturday 9th August. Regards Alan
  8. Here is an article dated 12th September 2008 in Motor Boats Monthly explaining the split. http://www.motorboatsmonthly.co.uk/news/402702/red-diesel-60-40-split-confirmed What I can not get my head around if we take an average of white diesel at the pumps at £1.38 per litre at most petrol stations. If we used the 60/40 split it would average out at £1.10 per litre. I only know of Boulters that are offering anywhere near this price for red diesel? Is it a case of being ripped off twice, firstly by the Government and secondly by the waterfront fuel companies. The above are my personal comments and not those of the forum. Regards Alan
  9. Hi Martin, Thank you for posting the link. As you say interesting reading. What I don't understand is the comment re additional costs at waterway pumps for new pumps and tanks. These waterway outlets will hardly intend to sell red & white diesel. One would assume that the tanks would be flushed and then refilled. Regards Alan
  10. Hello Old Wussername, Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. We tend to like names on this forum, if you wish it to be know. Regards Alan
  11. Take a look at the talents of Terry Everitt. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/talents_of_beccles_bird_carver_are_recognised_by_dragons_den_star_theo_paphitis_1_3708301 Regards Alan
  12. Hello Trevor, Thank you for correcting me, I have amended your website details in my post, I am sorry for the incorrect information being posted. Regards Alan
  13. Hi Geoff, Yes I heard about that yesterday, it conjured up thoughts of days gone past when the only route North was via the bottle neck of Ferry Bridge. Regards Alan
  14. Thank you Hylander for putting me onto this website, I have uploaded a link in Visiting the Broads/Useful Links, Slipways, Information under CanalplanAC. You can do a search on boat names by location such as the Broads and the site has a excellent route planer. Have a look and let me know what you think about the website and its features. The above location will remain in place until we find a better option, but here is a direct ink:- http://canalplan.org.uk/ Regards Alan
  15. Hi Lori, We locals tend to take the Peak District National Park for granted and at times forget the beauty of the area. Regards Alan
  16. Hello Bob, Thank you for letting forum members know, I have not seen any information on this or I would have posted it myself. I hope you have a massive turnout and raise a good amount for the lifeboat funds. If you have a link for donations can you please supply it, I am sure many of the forum members who can not be with you this weekend would still like to support you. Regards Alan
  17. Here are links to the two websites:- http://mytraderpage.com/Default.aspx?alias=mytraderpage.com/normancruisers& http://www.normanboats.co.uk Regards Alan
  18. Fire crews from Great Yarmouth & Gorleston attended a small fire at The Cantley Sugar Factory today. There is or was a fire engine on site and two weeks ago when we were on the Broads, I saw a fire boat moored outside of the factory. Did anyone see the events as they happened this afternoon? Regards Alan
  19. Zenos Cars are set to produce their E10 sports car in early 2015 creating 24 jobs. For the link to the story please see:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-28564287 Regards Alan
  20. Hi Mandy, Are you looking for the automatic self inflating lifejackets? Here is a link to Pacermarine:- http://www.pacermarine.co.uk/product/crewsaver-cwx-150n-lifejacket-automatic-harness/ These are for sale at £57 each, however they offer the same lifejacket on Ebay at £99 for two on Fast & Free delivery (ebay item number 181437140255). If these are for Moonlight Shadow I would have thought that they may have been included in the inventory other than the children's life vests. Regards Alan
  21. I have been following this topic with interest. We all have our own idea's what is best or worst. Here is a link to a site that shows most of the forms of getting energy and their pros and cons:- http://www.triplepundit.com/2012/04/combined-heat-power-pros-cons/ My personal thoughts that more should be done with Hydro electric plants like the two in Scotland and the one in Wales. More could be done with tidal or wave power. River and canal bywashes and weirs could generate a good energy flow with wasted energy. The debate I will leave with you all. Regards Alan
  22. Hi Dave, Since when have you been a getaway driver or a security driver? Regards Alan
  23. Hi Paul, Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. Our forum members were captivated by your films of the Broads. We look forward to more posts from you and your films. Regards Alan
  24. Hi Timbo, I loved your post, getting near 50, its like turning a switch, my eyes went, my arms were no longer long enough to read in bed, the Viagra emails started and policemen looked like they were fresh out of school. I know the feeling well re the spare wheel issue, its bad enough when you one of those emergency tyres in the boot. I bought 3 matching rims for my second Saab 93 convertible (I still love feel of the open air flowing around my hair, hardly through these days) so I could fit a spare tyre into the tyre well, it almost fits, its about 5mm proud, but I can live with that. You may want to check your space to see if you can fit in a full spare. The other two rims were for winter tyres which came in handy the year before last. Being a grumpy old man is a given right, my friends say it is not a age thing at all and say I have always been grumpy. That's friends for you. Enjoy your trip down on Friday and lets hope you will not have to use the John Bull repair kit. Regards Alan
  25. Here is a link to the Broadland Holiday Village on Oulton Broad & the Waveney River Centre:- http://www.broadlandvillage.co.uk/ http://www.waveneyrivercentre.co.uk/ As the other posters have said I would come down to the Broads but have a back up plan if you can not get any cancellations. Regards Alan
