  1. Hello Mandy, There is a number of us on the forum that are involved in Boat Share or Boat Syndicates, I am surprised that you have not heard about them before. Tan & I have been syndicate owners in Ranworth Breeze since 2001 our sister vessel Southern Crusader was launched in 1999/2000. Our syndicate is drawn out of the hat, but you can buy into standard weeks or school weeks. After saying that currently we have no shares for sale. With Southern Crusader you buy a week or weeks which remain the same each year. There are 6 boats that come under the BCBM umbrella which were or are partially or fully managed by BCBM. These boats are based at Brundall & Wroxham. Blue Mist, Evening Shadow, Lighting, Moonlight Shadow, Silver Cloud, Thunder. All of the above boats are standard Broads based cruisers. I am sure Matt & Sue H will chip in, they have shares in some of the above boats. Regards Alan
  2. The repeat of the last program in this series is on in about 5 minutes time 18.50 on More 4 (channel 14 on Freeview) Regards Alan

  4. Hi Colin, That was a very good specification for a boat of that age, so as you say plenty of life left in it especially if the anodes are good, I was surprised at seeing the size of some of these on narrow boats. The great advantage of being able to get to the prop through the weed hatch. We hired a narrow boat a few years ago and the nylock nut kept coming loose, we had the engineers out twice in the end he left the spanners with us. That boat looked ok but the boat needed to be lifted I suspected the drift key was missing or worn. There are a lot of very good new marinas on the canals these days, Sawley on the Trent is very large, infact there is now three good marinas on the Trent & Mersey. Also there is a fairly new marina on the start of Llangollen Canal above the locks from Hurlston Junction (Shropshire Union Canal). We went from that marina when we did the Cheshire Ring a few years ago. I think your idea of a marina on the Grand Union will give you several options for trips that are over a week or two. Regards Alan
  5. Hi JTF, I thought Lux was a type of soap Regards Alan
  6. Well done Colin. Please keep us posted. The Peter Nicholls hulls were the Rolls Royce of the Narrow Boat World back in the day. Have they done an ultrasound inspection on hull? back in that era the plate thickness would have been 6mm (1/4 inch in old money)are the sacrifical ellectrodes ok? Regards Alan
  7. Hi Dave, I totally agree. A great couple and still on the water at their age. Tim seemed to be banging the boats about somewhat throughout the series, in a tunnel it can't always be helped due to the low water levels in the tunnels which does not make for responsive handling. Regards Alan
  8. Hi Frank, It happens on some of the operating systems and IE from time to time. There is a work round by clicking the switch far left upper row, click this if the smilies are greyed out or if you can not copy and paste into a message. Regards Alan
  9. We watched the last of the programmes we recorded from Monday night. Pity it was the last one, it was on one of the French Canals (all the boats are cruiser style and were a change for Prunella & Tim). Wider than most of the canals in the UK and all the locks were manned. For those of you that missed this last of four episodes it is repeated on More4 on Saturday. Regards Alan
  10. Hi Colin, Well done, if the survey is good and the boat is yours we all expect that you post loads of pictures of the boat and information such as the year and maker etc. Regards Alan
  11. It is a pity that the Webcam at the Hotel Wroxham is not working, it was ideal to see the height of the water on the bridge board. I like them and it gives many people their daily fix of the Broads when stuck in their offices longing for the Broads, it is also good for seeing what the weather is like and the height of the tides. Regards Alan
  12. You can buy them direct from the Broads Authority, just contact them and they will send them out by post hopefully before your time on the Broads. I have also contacted them regarding cards that would not work on several electric posts and they sent me out replacements (as you know when the card is registered on the post it puts a series of dots on the card) Regards Alan
  13. Hi Lori, I could live with the first one, I know it would be a bind but doable. The second is just a house been given a tow. Regards Alan
  14. Looking at the video link a few minutes ago there is now three eggs. These are just on the roof, no nest which I assume must be usual for peregrines. Regards Alan
  15. Hi Dave, That would be the Jacksons. Regards Alan
  16. Hi JTF, Engelbert Humperdinck is just a long name, they are trying to flog his CD on the TV at the moment for Mothers Day, Tan just says no to that one. Regards Alan
  17. In September (5th to 7th) at the Norfolk Showground Some of the biggest names in music during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s are to perform at a new two-day "retro" music festival in Norfolk. Please see the following link:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-26617820 Regards Alan
  18. For the story and a video please visit the following link:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-26687137 I have put a link to the website called Norwich-Peregrines in the webcam section of the forum. Regards Alan
  19. Hi John, The green has only mooring for two/three boats at best and electric posts. there is plenty of moorings outside or just past the pub, but as you say it is busy there. The currents here can make mooring difficult. Dependent on the tides we may well try and get up North in July. Regards Alan
  20. Hi Jon, Looking forward to more of your pictures of the woodies. Sun what sun, Up North we only see pictures of this event Regards Alan
  21. The tea room/shop at Stokesby is open from this Sunday. Mooring at the green, great location and cakes to die for from the shop to eat in or out. We always call in here when we go onto the Northern Broads and tend to moor overnight if there is space. Regards Alan
  22. Hi Andy, Sorry to hear you had no takers on your offer, it is still early and even in the sun it can be somewhat cool. Are you going to think about having the same offer for a day over Easter? Regards Alan
  23. Hi Frank, I am impressed especially with you flying the flag. Regards Alan
  24. Hi Colin, Broads cruising cheap indeed. last year our boating holiday from Falkirk on the Union & Clyde canals cost us £1708 for 6 adults and that was 10th May to 17th May. To hire a Birchwood 340 the same boat as Ranworth Breeze (no doubt lower spec) on the Caledonian would have been the same from Le Boat but with their usual extras would have come in at well over £2000 a 6 berth boat that we were looking at would have been over £3500. Marina costs which are costal are very expensive I would expect the new marinas that are emerging on the canals will be expensive but I have not costed these, I did ask what the maina charges were at the marina on Windermere next to the ferry. About 6 years ago these were around £3000 per year for a 30 to 35 foot boat with electric/water supplied for 8 months all year was by negotiation. Regards Alan
  25. Hi Frank, Try just the magic sponges next time you clean them, apart from scratches they brought ours up like new. Regards Alan
