  1. Hi John, Great pictures especially the two boats. Regards Alan
  2. Hi Jon, The hood on that Moggie looks almost new. Did the polish come up well? are the doors good? The worlds parts suppliers for Moggies seem to be in Devon & Cornwall, you used to be able to get most if not all the parts including lower or full door skins. Be it cars or boats remember to wax on and wax off, worked well for the Karate Kidd, just in case you need some exercise. Regards Alan
  3. Hi Kathleen, You should be ok with the wifi at Tingdene, it is free to all moorers if they have paid the mooring fees and there is about 6 to 8 masts to log into thoughout the site. Note to self must get the unlock codes for the wifi. Regards Alan
  4. Hi Jon, That sounds a good plan, but get the owners to apply for the toll, if you applied for it from a commercial point of view the boat would have to be registered as commercial rather than private. Regards Alan
  5. Hello Clive, Welcome back to the Broads and to the forum. Regards Alan
  6. Nice boat Jon, what's it like inside? Regards Alan

  8. Hello Mandy, If you are still on the Broads it maybe an idea to call in at Brooms & Faircraft to see if any of the Syndicate Boats that are moored at these two locations are currently moored up, I am sure that at Brooms they would let you look at the boats, just call into the Receptions and enquire. If you see Ranworth Breeze I am sure that James who is currently aboard would let you have a look around, shoes off of course. Regards Alan
  9. Hello Brian, Keep up the good work with your posts. Re the speed on the Broads, do not rely on any form of speedo, I am sure with all of your experience you know that tidal flow effects your speed. Tan had a warning a few years ago (needless to say I never let it drop) by one of the wardens who had clocked us doing 7.5 mph on a 6.0 mph section the speedo said under 6.00 mph and we only doing a little over 1100 rpm but we did not allow for nearly a 2mph tidal flow. Regards Alan
  10. Hi Bill, I can't see any speaker backing cones but there must be some to adhere to fire regulations for ceiling voids in buildings. Have a look at these speakers as an alternative they have a built in backing, I used some of these on the boat in February. http://www.force4.co.uk/1957/Force-4-Waterproof-Speakers-4-inch---20W-Marine-Speakers-Pair.html Regards Alan

  16. Whether your boating or at home enjoy your Easter. Now what can I cram into four days from work assuming I am allowed out of the kitchen Regards Alan
  17. Hi JTF, They sell the Eco washing up liquid in Roys or Morrisons. Tan tells it is available everywhere, ask me about nuts, bolts etc then I am fine. I am like the kid in the old washing powder advert reading the instructions I would get it all over the place, but fit a new seal to the door or replace the drum bearing on the machine I am your man. Regards Alan
  18. Hi Sue, We have been doing this a few years on Ranworth Breeze, starting off the season with the correct supplies including the cheap two ply toilet paper to prevent blockages. Every time we visit the boat we remove any contraband, such as the washing up liquid, toilet bleach (if used could be dangerous when mixed with the blue loo fluid), soft 3 ply toilet paper as already stated, kitchen cleaner etc containing bleach. If all the boats did likewise then think how much better the Broads rivers would be. After saying that it is difficult to keep all of our owners towing the line. Regards Alan
  19. Hi Grace, Having looked at pictures of Sluice Weir lock, they seem similar to the ones on the River Seven but maybe not as deep. If you want to see big locks then you need to check out the Caledonian Canal or the Manchester Ship Canal. Regards Alan
  20. Hello Grace, Gongoozlers will be about no doubt over Easter so beware Enjoy your trip out; that is if you come out of the cabin Regards Alan
  21. Further to my last message the Somerleyton Bridge will be out of order unable to open after 10.00pm tonight until 06.00am in the morning. I can't see anyone wanting to go through the bridge during these times however. Regards Alan Somerleyton Swing Bridge We have just been informed that due to staff sickness, Network Rail will be closing Somerleyton Swing Bridge 22:00 pm Wednesday 16 April until 06:00 – Thursday 17 April 2014. During this period the bridge will not be able to swing but vessels normally able to pass through when the bridge is closed will still have access. 22. Somerleyton Swing Bridge Network Rail inform us that due to a member of staff being involved in a road traffic accident on the way to work this morning, they are not able to staff Somerleyton Swing Bridge until 10:00hrs this morning. 23. Quite a few years ago we engaged a guy with a Freeman (a very tidy boat, could have been a 26 or 28) whose moorings were above Ludham Bridge. We got talking as you do and saw him over several days in our out of season allocation. I know he tried for three days in a row to get back to his moorings but the tides were against him at each of those low tides. We never found out if he got back under the bridge. As with all bridges and tides it is not about getting under, it is about getting back! Regards Alan
  24. Hi Ian, The lock is operational but only by arrangement. Regards Alan Oulton Broad - Mutford Lock – restricted operation The Broads Authority has been working hard to rectify the damage to the electrical and hydraulic control systems at Mutford Lock following the flooding in December. We understand it is a high priority for users and have been doing our best to get it back into operation. The road bridge which was out of action is now fully operational. Despite the damage to the Lock control systems it should have been possible to manually open the gates. However, as soon as one of the gates failed to open engineers were called to inspect them. Nothing was found to be visually wrong with the winding mechanism nevertheless the engineers still could not open the gate. This is most likely caused by additional debris behind the gates. A dive team carried out an inspection on Thursday 6th February and have now cleared debris which will allow limited manual operation of the lock by the arrangement with the Oulton Broad Yacht Station who can be contacted on 01502 574946. The longer term solution to rectifying the damage to the electrical and hydraulic systems will make it more resilient to future flooding events. The replacement of the hydraulic system is expected to take 10 to 14 weeks.
  25. Hi Jan, What is WRC and OBYS. WRC is the Waveney River Centre and OBYC is the Oulton Broad Yacht Station. Regards Alan
