  1. Hello Alan, If you have to put the batteries in the engine bay, put them in a box with a sealed lid that has a 12 volt extractor fitted so you can duct the gases overboard. With regards to the gas you will need a vented outside locker to be safe. Regards Alan
  2. Hi Sue, There was a notice early last year that there was an issue with some triggers & valves with a certain date codes and to check the dates. I think the CO2 cartridges (re arming kits) are around £20.00. Regards Alan
  3. Hi Sue, I thought all women could multitask, Bill Gates would not be impressed! Regards Alan
  4. Hello Frank, When we ditched are management company in 2012 and I contacted the Broads Authority to change the boats registation from commercial to private I had to prove that we had a consitution in place and send them copies of our owners contract so we allowed to change it. After the effects of the Challenger problem effecting a number of Broads Syndicates the Broads Authority were very sympathetic with syndicate enquiries. Although the registratration is sent to a named person it can be named under two people representing a group or syndicate. We have ours registered in the names of our trustees. With regards to our marine insurance we inform our insurance company with the names of the owners at the start of each season. Our contract states that an owner needs to be on board if the boat in use. Regards Alan
  5. Hi Alan, Have a word with Nick or Tanya at Brian Ward's to see what they recommend they will not steer you wrong. Regards Alan
  6. As with all services I check it out each year and confess go for the cheapest known brand. The worst thing to compare is electric & gas because of the none level playing fields. All we need to compare is the daily charge plus the cost of each unit, but if most companies told you that outright they would get little business. Currently with First-Utilities and I can't see any point going for fixed term. As Strowger says it is best to offer yourself as a new customer, there is loyalty these days as can be seen with banking. Regards Alan
  7. Hello Sue, It would seem that your post has been put into the lounge. Maybe its an age thing but looking back I have always tried to buck the system and can not stand red tape and jobs worths. Almost a Yorkshire Man after being raised on the North East Derbyshire boarders we know what to call a shovel. Regards Alan
  8. Hello Samuel, What about using concrete common bricks, which are quite dense and are the cheapest you can buy. Regards Alan
  9. Hi Sue, When you went down to one car and you rescinded your own insurance you should have had a letter from the insurance company showing your level of NCD. This letter would be your proof of NCD that you should be able to offer this to your new insurance company. The trouble with insurance companies is that you have to do all the running around for them in order to get the best price from them, they are not inclined to help unless you pressurise them into action. Regards Alan
  10. Hello Alan, My advice is to set up a proper syndicate with terms conditions and contracts that are duly signed outlinning what is expected by all parties. This will help with regards to your Broads Toll & Registration and boat insurance. If you need any advice by all means feel free to contact me directly for any advice on the subject. Regards Alan

  13. Hi Sue, Friday evening was somewhat rough at Wroxham and we heard the wind for most of the night in the Hotel Wroxham. Saturday we spent most of the day removing our upper control panels and putting in a new radio after wrapping the panels. Jonzo & Mark came down to the boat to introduce themselves, so I can put faces to names. It was good to meet you both, I am sorry that I had to press on with the work. Back to Wroxham for the night but more importantly to get into Roy's before closing to stock up on items for the boat. Sunday was a great day, if we only had time to go on the river, not much wind and was ideal, but I had to fit a replacement aft cabin escape hatch, the old one had gone crazed on the window. Tan was sorting and cleaning throughout the boat. I cleaned outside and on the upper helm and by a little after 4.30 we left for home we had a good journey and managed to get home in 3 hours. We are now set for the new season, sadly I have to wait until July for my first week aboard. Regards Alan
  14. When we were working on Tapton Lock on the Chesterfield Canal we all went as a family when the children were little, the boys put in a full days work helping. We used to take conker saplings found in our garden and plant them is the surrounding area. I must go back and see if they survived. Opposite our moorings we scattered wild flower seeds but our weeks on the boat meant that we never saw the flowers. If they self set we may have better luck this year. Regards Alan
  15. When we purchased our new mattress for the start of the 2013 season we also put a layer of Drymesh under the mattress. We got ours from Jeckelles. Regards Alan

  17. I have brought Tan away for the weekend and we are currently in The Hotel Wroxham, dined and well watered. She will have all the joys of getting the boat ready for the season start. No time sadly for romance, just cleaning and removing all the clutter from last season and a few new jobs to do. Regards Alan

  20. We are having gale force winds at the moment in South Yorkshire which started as predicted at around 5.30. The wind speed is estimated between 80 to 100 mph. No doubt we will hear of the damage in the morning. The police have advised to travel if only necessary. Regards Alan
  21. Hello Robin, Thank you for posting the link. Curved glass always used to be very expensive due to the losses in production. More than likely the losses these days will be reduced but the costs will no doubt be kept on the high side. Regards Alan.
