  1. Hi Ian, A good DVD. We have hired just off of the Thames on the Grand Union Canal, the narrow boat on the wider parts of the Thames looked a bit hairy. After saying that they have taken narrow boats over the Channel. Regards Alan
  2. There is also flooding in Devon please see the link for floods at Salcombe. http://www.itv.com/news/update/2014-01-03/residents-use-boats-to-navigate-devon-flood-waters/ There are various shoreline flood warnings all around the country. Regards Alan
  3. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year. Regards Alan
  4. By all accounts 5 outboard engines have been stolen over the Southern Broads over the Christmas holidays. Regards Alan
  5. Thank you Martin for bringing this to our attention, so sad for everyone involved, it will take them months to try and make any sense of the situation and more time to sort out insurance and rebuilding. Regards Alan
  6. Hi Jon , In that picture the rubbing stake looks bad but the gap in the boards above looked worse. On a job like that where would you start? Regards Alan
  7. Hi Mark, A good idea by Geoff and well done for taking this on. We may still be making our mince pies, maids of honour etc. but will try to log in. Regards Alan
  8. Hello JTF, People have been hung drawn & quartered for less. Burn hardwood indeed Regards Alan
  9. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Still a week to go but running out of time as usual and still trying to get orders out of the door. Regards Alan
  10. Exposed damaged posts – Breydon Water and River Yare, five mile bends Breydon Water starboard hand navigation post no. 49, just before the Dickey Works, has been broken off. There is about 1 metre still exposed at average calm water high tide. A replacement Starboard hand buoy has been placed in front of it and a yellow buoy will be placed as close as possible. Further, in the River yare at 5 Mile Bends (the first bends with channel markers upstream of the Berney Mill moorings the fourth and fifth starboard hand marker posts have also been damaged. The fourth has been broken below the water line and is marked with a post and yellow light behind it. The fifth is damaged but still intact – a buoy will be placed in front of it on Thursday 19th Dec. Kind regards Angie Leeper Asset Officer Broads Authority, Yare House, 62 - 64 Thorpe Road, Norwich, NR1 1RY tel 01603 756057 mob 07971 156076 fax 01603 756069 angie.leeper@broads-authority.gov.uk
  11. It could not have happened at a worse time, the run up to Christmas and over the holiday period makes or breaks a pub and in many cases helps to cover the lean periods in January & February. As already stated there is a water trap in front of the pub. It could be that the cellar was totally flooded, there also could have been storage for food that was also effected. Drying out flooded buildings can be difficult especially if there is no operational onsite electrics. The larger pub chains do tend to spend plenty of money to get their pubs reopened quickly. Once customers find a new place to drink or eat it is hard to get them back. Lets hope it can open soon. Regards Alan
  12. Hello Alan, It looks as if you have your work cut out. As the other forum members have said please keep us posted on your progress. We do like to see plenty of photos on the forum especially on going projects. Regards Alan
  13. Hello Alan, Welcome back to the forum, if you let us have information regarding your original login name we may be able to let you use it. With regards to mooring we have an updated list of mooring available on the Broads. Please see the following:- Regards Alan
  14. A house teetering on the edge of a cliff in Norfolk following last week's tidal surge has been demolished. The house was planned to be demolished in the spring but the storms over the previous weeks has brought this forward. It is so sad for the owner who thought the house would be standing for 25 years rather than the five years she has had in her Norfolk coastal home. For more details please see the details and photos. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-25344611 Regards Alan
  15. If you can find the time there is a lot to said for using traditional woodworking methods. Using an hand plane rather than a electric plane gives you a feel of the wood you are using. I always finish my work off by hand, but tend to use the power tools for the earlier work on the timber. Regards Alan
  16. Hi Jon, I didn't know you had started making your own chipboard, not too sure about the quality of your materials. Regards Alan
  17. Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. Such a pity to sell the boat. Regards Alan
  18. Hi Grace, October is a great time to visit the Broads, because our allocations dates are pulled out of the hat we have been almost at all times of the year. We have been sat on the back of the boat with the canopy down in sunshine in the first week in December and have had rain for a week in June & July so you can never tell what the weathers going to do. Being as you are going late in the season you have plenty of time to arrange everything and start building up your boat kit. Regards Alan
  19. Hello Roy, Just a thought has anyone contacted the local TA for help? Regards Alan

  21. Hi Jon, Being at work under the weather is yet another joy of being self employed, it complements being an unpaid tax collector. I hope you get better soon. Regards Alan
  22. Hello Jon, I like long stories, so what is it with the special dust from New Zealand. Are you using it as an old joiners trick of mixing with glue for repairs, plugging holes etc. I have used ebony dust and glue as an infill on designs in hardwood rather than marquetry. It could be an alternative to sign writing on boats but using a router instead of a brush. Regards Alan
  23. Hello Howard, One of our owners is current on the river coming back from Norwich after picking up Ranworth Breeze from Brundall this morning. Looking on the Oulton Broad webcam this lunchtime the water levels have gone well down. The moorings at the Wherry Hotel were no longer flooded, but appeared to have some damage. Lets hope tonight tide is somewhat lower. Regards Alan
  24. Hello zetetic, Welcome to the forum from Tan & myself. Regards Alan
