  1. Thanks for posting that Robin. What doughnuts !!!! I too hope that appropriate action will be taken against them.
  2. Dunno! Haven't got Facebook!!
  3. I reckon XS650 could help... if he'd only allow you on his land long enough.
  4. My dear fellow, are you trying to tell us that you do not already possess those essentials?
  5. Nah, he bought a bottle of Jameson thinking it was Scotch, liked it and can't tell anyone!
  6. Nah mate, disguise it as a crab, then tell BA that it's only 9'6" long and IS moored stern on!
  7. Hate to say it but I don't like it! Not to my taste at all. Never mind £100k, I'd walk past it at 50 quid!
  8. I wonder how many skippers of electric boats think running their motors would charge their batteries. Tim, Don't worry, If I come over to complain, I'll be carrying three mugs of boat coffee. Peter (JM) I would imagine the wash from the power boats help sink the grass cuttings too before the BA rangers realise you're chucking them in.
  9. Ahhh yes, that famous broadland flag signal... England expects every man to do his laundry
  10. He's right! We will all want to see pics of you and your boat... not only are we noisey but very nosey too A warm welcome to the nut house from me too.
  11. Even I groan at that one
  12. Sorry but I fall firmly in the "get rid" camp. These things were designed to get in the way when moving the boat using the ropes, to always have the rope under them when you need it over, and vice verse and to tangle with any branches that have the audacity to grow within 200 metres of where your boat is ever likely to be. Apart from that, they're fine!
  13. I feel I must reiterate that the problem is more than likely ignorance than selfishness. Hirer is told "If batteries are a bit low just run your engine for an hour, same thing if you need hot water." Hirer gets up in the morning wants hot water or battery top-up and starts his engine thinking that's what everybody does. Quite probably he doesn't realise how much it is irritating his neighbours, or at least the ones who know the score. He is at worst guilty of a touch of thoughtlessness, and in all fairness we have all been that at some time or other.
  14. vanillaice99, I wish you all the luck in the world for this venture and rest assured I'll be a regular customer. I love ice cream Watch out for Nyx and give me a wave.
  15. I'll check but I think I have a rhond anchor, possibly two going spare. What I do know I have are some mooring pins (canal style). Any use to you?
  16. Hey Quo, is that the ice cream boat... or the toilet.
  17. People being selfish and somewhat inconsiderate sadly is a sign of the times, however there is another possibility. If they are new to boating they may just be unaware that it's not the done thing to start ones motor that early in the morning. They may (not unreasonably) genuinely think that it's what happens, that it is the norm. Perhaps a quiet word in their ear may ease the way for both you and them to continue with a relaxing holiday.
  18. All the things we say are all well and good... but totally ineffective!!! The experienced amongst us know certain things and have worked out others, the problem is that for many, the broads holiday is the first experience they have of boat handling. They assume it will handle pretty much like a car. They assume that it must be pretty easy or they wouldn't be allowed to do it. They assume that it must be safe to play on the water as the yards have a duty of care. and finally... They assume that if they can't do it.... nobody else can either. We all, in our arrogance, assume we are slightly better at things than Joe Public, (I know I am!) and it is these assumptions that cause the impacts we are talking of here. Sadly in the modern society in which we live, it goes against the grain to admit we are wrong, so when the novice hits a boat the thought process must go along the lines of... "I wonder who's fault that was! Not mine!! it was the wind... must have been!... Odd how the back end swung out like that... boats must get hit an awfull lot with that happening!!! Next time I'll try it faster, that will help. ... I wonder why Tarquin is all wet and running along the bank!"
  19. We ALL occasionally make contact with another vessel so please be aware that.... We are all insured if the damage warrants a claim, no point in doing a hit & run. and... If you do everything at as lower throttle as possible any damage will be minimal. Be safe, but also play nicely! Then we all can have fun.
  20. Ahh but you ain't seen me yet Grace, I've got a 6pack but it's hidden behind a firkin.
  21. I don't think sarcasm should be confused with being condescending ... now you do know what I mean by Condescending don't you.
  22. Given the weather they've had up in Haggisland, I reckon Iain will be out on deck in his mankini sunbathing Not a mental image on which I'll dwell!!!
  23. Yeah... not bad... if you don't mind slumming it a bit.!
  24. Last year I crossed Breydon and a mist came down just as I was entering by the Berney Arms. It got to the point where I couldn't see the posts at all (most disorientating) but by taking it gently I still managed to stay in the channel (I think). I had a friend on board who's main assistance was to put extra rum in the coffee. Well trained eh!
  25. Hmmm, Decking on a boat! Whatever next?
