  1. First, Thanks all for the replies. They have been most helpful though they have proved the rule, "the more you find out, the less you know." I am looking at a Chinese item where all the fittings will fit the existing pipework. All I shall be buying is the heater unit and pump. More details will be given when I have some idea what I'm talking about. Exhaust system, hot air venting etc will all be the existing Eberspatcher stuff. However, I do have a worry. The replacement unit is 8kw where the replaced unit was 5kw. Question, will the exhaust be hotter? The new unit will be £150. If it turns out that the money is down the pan, well, so be it. I'll be in a better situation next year to go for the more expensive options should it be necessary.
  2. A good friend of mine, has one of this type of unit to warm his shed. His is inside with the exhaust vented out. I would suggest that this is a better option than the heater outside with the hot air vented in. He recommends the unit as bloody good.
  3. I have just had a quote for the repair of my Eberspatcher hot air diesel heater. £850 !! Now, I know many of you have gone for the cheaper units from the Orient. I rather need your advice on whose is best . I have a friend who is looking into this for me, he will be the one to fit it, but your input would be greatly welcomed.
  4. I should have added that under no circumstances should you use any tools directly on the ice. You WILL do damage that way, expensive damage at that.
  5. I understand a hair dryer is the best thing for the job. It takes time but does no damage. As I have neither hair, nor anything to dry my lack of it with, I can only pass this on as hearsay.
  6. I rarely write or read reviews for the same reasons as above. If I have an unpleasant experience at a venue, then I might read reviews of that place to see if my experience was frequently found there. Not too many years ago I had a breakfast at a place well regarded by this forum. My guest found a hair in their breakfast and complained to the management and was compensated appropriately, sadly moments later I found a hair in mine. I said nothing as I thought it would look very much like I was just jumping on the bandwagon. I would have been happy to have another meal there but as yet have not. I suppose that if one reads good things about a place from people one trusts, that is a fair recommendation. If one reads poor reports from strangers, they can or should be ignored. Taking these sites that encourage feedback, I wouldn't trust any of then, they are all too vulnerable to misuse from both sides. My overall position on this is that if I have a poor experience, I say nothing on media but will sometimes mention it to the management. If I have a great experience, I tell anybody listening/reading.
  7. Thank you Marshy, I now have a mental image I'm having great difficulty throwing, and am not enjoying in the least.
  8. The windscreen doesn't fold down so it won't get under Wayford bridge.
  9. Not having the faintest idea how to go about Foi requests, I have started trying to think of ways in which the leccy posts could be deemed to be misused. I don't believe for one moment that electricity has been stolen or the posts vandalised in any way, but I have read somewhere, that there are rules governing their usage. Please correct me I'd I'm wrong but is it that the cable used on the posts must be of one length (no joints) from the post to the boats official socket, ruling out such things as adapters and extension leads? Further, if I am correct, the 32amp socket must not have a lead with a 32amp fitting on one end and a 16amp fitting the other (like mine has). These are rules to keep jobsworths in employment and will only effect private boats. I accept I may be jumping the gun but once again I feel that the BA is attacking liveaboards, this time by using some small print as their weapon. If electricity was being stolen, then the BA would have had every right to involve the police and insist on arrests being made. This they did not do.
  10. If that's 36 shots each, then I'm proud to be acquainted with you. If it was 36 shots between 10 or 12 of you then you need to enrol with the Maurice Mynah academy of libations and aperitifs appreciation course.
  11. I suspect it's rather like the Nuclear deterrent, not used but the threat is there
  12. It's good to see the boatyards embracing the noble art of patina
  13. Is it against the ToS to ask for the link to the footage of the Sutton Staithe leccy posts being taken out of service, to be sent to me by a pm? If not, please can someone do that for me ?
  14. I thought that this was worthy of it's own thread as the Ranworth thread may need to continue in it's own way. I wonder if a mod can move the Sutton Staithe electricity posts from the Ranworth thread to here please.
  15. If the facility has been withdrawn because of misuse, I wonder if, as toll payers, we have the right to have details of the nature of this "misuse". If however the reason is to make the mooring less attractive to liveaboards, why does the BA not have the whatsits to say as much. It's not that long ago that the BA was instrumental (allegedly) in getting the RSPB to take action against those moored in the reeds just away from Sutton Staithe. Just how long will the BA hide behind mummy's apron before they admit that liveaboards are not part of their plan and that they want rid of them. Oh and just a quick point to Hylander. I think the filming you wrote of was more about what was being done rather than who was doing it. Difficult to do one without showing the other. Hmm sorry if that reads as condescending, just meant to give my opinion.
  16. There are 5 or 6 on the Ant alone. On the Bure there are two near Thurne mouth, at least two on the dyke leading to South Walsham broad, and a few before you get to Horning. They are still about.
  17. Thanks matey, that saves me a job. Personally I see this as an action against liveaboards rather than against misuse. I know that some are mooring on the green and Sutton Broad alternate days and that as such the BA can do BA about it, but I can't see that warranting the action taken. Perhaps if the BA took a less vitriolic attitude to liveaboards and started to provide more residential moorings (or at least didn't block others trying to provide them) the situation would improve.
  18. I think that it is most unlikely that anyone has been stealing electricity. Much more likely that this is to discredit liveaboards and to stir up opinion against them. I shall try to find out if the leccy has been turned off rather than the posts just tripping out, which is quite a frequent occurance.
  19. Ahh, a question still requiring an answer. Should I be ruled by my head or my heart. If I do get one, it will be a whippet based lurcher and a rescue one at that. Age immaterial, gender also immaterial. Nothing from a breeder and not from anyone wanting to make a profit. I have no doubt that I won't find the dog, the dog will find me.
  20. If you need a lift from Wroxham Station give me a call. I'll pm you my phone number.
  21. You must have a really wealthy dog if it's got hotels, caravans and buses as well as fleas
  22. A fairly sensible post here from me for once. Firstly I ask a favour from Griff. When you are on your "lads week out, would you be so kind as to look at the bridge clearance height on the symphony's and tell me what they say. I'm interested given that they are sister ships to Nyx. Second, There is a product available in Tesco's called "Nature's finest Tropical fruits" that comes in a rather useful plastic pot. There are other fruits available in these pots and I get through quite a lot. This has resulted in my now having more useful pots than I have uses for. Would anybody out there like some? I have about 20 going spare. See pic below.
  23. I will be home but still here. I live on my boat. :-)
