  1. We could do with a boat jumble on the scale of the Norfolk Show Ground up here around our neck of the woods Griff
  2. I have just read it through twice. Concentrated more the second time round. I would of thought I found fault or at least partially disagree with something he said - Failed spectacularly. It is one of the most sensible pieces of writing on this particular topic I have ever read. I just hope and pray that some big hitter somewhere high up the food chain reads and studies it properly, then maybe picks up his/her phone and starts to make a few subtle enquiries than starts to rattle cages - We can hope In the meantime, much respect and a huge thanks to James Knight for taking the time and sharing with us Griff
  3. Today was my last game shoot of the season, and on a school day too. Our local shoot of which I am one of the syndicate guns so this one affordable. Not a huge bag but the day was really good. Expensive Breakfast at the Mount Pleasant hotel. Then out for the day. It was proper cold with ice crunching underfoot. Macie did her thing as she does. I bagged three pheasant and four french partridge (We like shooting the french!) we never shoot English partridge. A great day out with mates. Now to concentrate on the clay shooting with some big fun team events coming up throughout the year Griff
  4. No mention of it here:- www.boatjumbleassociation.co.uk It was on last year but to be fair it was a former shadow of what it used to be, seems to me it was getting smaller with less stalls both commercial and private each year The Northern one near to Goole has also disappeared off the list. That one was suffering too as above imho I / we used to visit both of em during 'B.A's restoration period 2002 - 2007, they were great events then, sometimes too much to get round and we got some great bargains both new and second hand Griff
  5. Thanks for your expert advice - Very good of you Griff
  6. Right Gottit, That's that answered that un in straight-forward Yorkshire speak - Which I can understand. So, t next question is, Do differing omni aerials work better with that there Tacolneston Tx'er or are they pretty much all the same? Tks Griff
  7. Hey Nigel - Need input from you on t'other thread please mate, Tks Griff
  8. https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/fisheries/consultation-on-the-review-of-the-close-season/consultation/subpage.2018-07-17.5214680622/ Griff
  9. Just don't get us started on flag etiquette and trailing fend-offs! Especially blue fend-off's That a full barrel of fish bait and just Toooooooo embarrassing to mention - For some Griff
  10. When you have klingons on the starboard bow you may have problems, or may have just had a glitch with the pumpout.... ROFPML - Brilliant Griff
  11. There are a boat load (Pun intended) of Skippers who will help you transit your boat from one location to another if it's on the Broads - Robin aka London rascal is on your doorstep and readily available. With enough notice I would volunteer but my work / social diary is constantly chokka (Just had to turn down a 50th Bday party afloat on a canal boat in June as already booked) If you want her moved via the green and crinckly stuff then the choice of skippers is somewhat more limited but still plenty of us around with these hallowed pages Griff
  12. At 9ft 3" there will be times you will clear Ludham. A couple of days with a belt sander and you will have her down to 9ft - then you are talking Griff
  13. I would say you have still got all the Broads apart from up river of PHB, Ludham, Wroxham, Beccles Old and possibly Norwich some of the time. Can you live with that whilst you own this boat? That could be for years. Have a moment to ponder on this, then either go for it or keep looking What about saving money, buy a tired cheaper boat. Use the money you have saved to ‘Make it Yours’ You then have a ‘Keeper’ that can utilise the whole of all the rivers Hope this helps but probably won’t! Griff
  14. No hoops for the vhf license. Primarily you money and a noddy course Griff
  15. We have a set of at least four PMR's onboard 'B.A' - Handy for when cruising in company and a must on the Lads Week. A couple of years ago I had just watched a live streaming on FB of Robin onboard a cruiser coming down the Bure so I knew he was between Horning and the river Ant underway. He knew I was onboard 'B.A' but not where. I called him up on CH4 telling him I was just approaching Reedham and could he hear me? - He could! (I was nowhere near to Reedham of course) We had a five minute conversation where Robin proclaimed that he was well chuffed at the performance / clarity / range of the latest PMR's we were using (Robin had researched and ordered them as he does). The look on his dish however as he came round a bend in the river and met 'B.A' head on coming the other way was a picture and gave both of us a good laugh. That's what it's all about though, enjoying yersens on the rivers. For further range we have a vhf onboard, sometimes just turned on as a listening watch on the local channels. We can tx but there is rarely a need although we have used it to request Somerleyton bridge to open before now during high tide when it's been persisting it down and of course on the odd occasion when transiting through Mutford. Years n years ago when my now departed Dad used to organise the lads week, before mobile phones came into use, we had three hand held C.B's for use during the lads week. They weren't small and cost a fortune in non-rechargable batteries and from memory weren't that good either although they did work to a fashion Griff
  16. Yes pmr is used. Normally CH4 but you can of course change channel to a less used one once you have established comms Griff
  17. Proper enjoyed viewing this lot. Thanks for sharing Griff
  18. Hi Woodwose, I'm missing something here, you kindly informed us as per below:- Omnidirectional aerials are often small and have no gain so they work best if mounted as high as possible. Yet the Ballade aerial I'm considering states 23:5db so what am I missing here or am I reading something wrong? Appreciate your expertise and advice in this topic btw, Griff
  19. I’ve been dressing screws for years as instructed by my dear old now deserted Dad. I’m not that anal to do it where they can’t be seen though Griff
  20. But a tree? - probably stretch to a child’s tree house ! Griff
  21. Which is why I try to get hold of ‘old’ teak planks and store it for future needs Griff
  22. Before I’m next onboard If I get a suitable amount of condensation in the GriffTile van, I will of course give it a go and see Griff
  23. As of yet the two impulse buy fan demisters have not arrived so I can’t test them or therefore report back Griff
