  1. Meet 'B.A's newest crew member - Tally She is a girly G.R and the final piece of the puzzle to complete daughters family. Besides this was the only way they were ever going to have a new girl in the house Tally will of course be afloat this year learning from Purdey how it is done Griff
  2. What do they mean by 'River Only' craft? Is that craft that navigate the Yare / Bure but do not pass under Haven bridge? Griff
  3. Talk about mucking folk around - unbelievable Griff
  4. I hope it will be touched. Certainly is overdue a facelift / maintenance Griff
  5. Northern side of things still higher than normal with water tide locked in due to the silted up lower Bure Griff
  6. 24 years & 12 days in the RN. My daughter yesterday beat me at Battleships - Oh the shame Griff
  7. Me n MrsG took four of our grandsons to a Panto in Donny yesterday - Beauty and the Beast (To be fair though Beauty wasn't that beautiful but that's another story) Anyroadup the show was indeed very good. They did a singalong with huge lyrics at one point. The youngsters in t audience had to do it on their own, then the sneaky 'Comedian' on stage announced it was the Mums, Dads and grandparents turn. He told the youngsters if the 'Oldies' were not singing properly then they didn't really love you. Emotional blackmail is what that was - Probably the most participated & loudest singalong I've heard in a long while Griff
  8. And there’s the key to it all right there - Routine dredging/ maintenance or in our case the lack of it on the lower Bure. IF the blessed authority had simply maintained what they inherited in the first place then we would be in a far better situation They only have themselves to blame but it is the people of the Broads are paying the price Griff
  9. Cars I have owned legally on the road, but some of the early ones may not have been road legal, well not for all the time I owned them Late 70's - Austin 1100 - changed the head to a 1300, bigger carbs, furry dice, furry cloth everywhere, the obligatory sunshine strip with names on it, I got that tired of changing the passenger name so had the idea of changing it once more to 'Him and Them' my Mum was far from impressed. A row of spotlamps meant the dynamo just couldn't manage Vauxhall Ventora 3'300cc straight six which tripled the capacity of the Austin 1100 - the ventora was a really comfortable cruising car Then the order gets somewhat hazy - Mk1 Capri 2000 GT with a V4 in it, black vinyl roof, Ford escort van 1300cc loved that one. Mixed in around here somewhere is a Dutton Phaeton kit car - Still got that one - A proper hooligan. MKIII escort the cvh 3 door. Granada 2:3 V6, probably my favourite one of all, had this with us in Norway, it really was a 'Gudden' did al sorts of upgrades and farkling - Wish I still had it. Another MkIII escort cvh this one was a 1600 Ghia. Then came along a Ford Sierra 2:0L 5 door GLSi had that for a while, a lot of farkling enjoyed that one a lot. Mondeo Ghia estate followed, our first diesel. Then we went to two vehicles, MrsG with a nearly new ford focus 1600 diesel and now with her Q5 that cost more than our present house! I went down the van route, Merc Vito - Terrible. Vauxhall Vivaro - Very good and currently Transit custom sport - best one yet. BMW Z3 Sunday afternoon hooligan - great fun. Bikes - just two on the road, a 1976 Honda 400-4 and of course the mighty Triumph Tiger 1050, both of which I still own. I've probably missed a few out somewhere, I once borrowed a mates brand new ford capri Laser, we took it to a wedding near Peterborough. On the way home to Donny with the then girlfriend, stopped off at Clumber park (Temporarily ran out of petrol of course) and got an embarrassing bollocking off a local policeman in the park - Happy days Griff
  10. Finally got MrsG Q5 onto its winter boots. Z3 passed its mot this week with no advisories, first one under my ownership. I'm going to Sorn the Q5 on 30th Dec as we paid the £500 road tax in October. Then on Jan 01 I'll tax it for a year at £180. That'll give us a free refund from the treasury Griff
  11. By the lock is one of our favourite overnight locations. Please stop telling everyone (Like wot I just did!) Griff
  12. Day 28 - 10th Dec Shaun continues to progress, his leg movements are ever so slowly improving. The heart magicians and ICU staff (Now they think it is safe to do so) yesterday have informed his mobile family support team that in the early days they didn't think that Shaun would make it and are now pleasantly surprised at how well he came through all those emergencies and procedures and are well impressed with his recovery rate The big news is that MrsG now plans to fly home on Sat 16th I'd better get tidied up then! Griff
  13. Day 26 - 08th Dec Another good day, Shaun continues to improve. Duncan is staying with him in his ward to provide mental support and push him on physically, no doubt there will be a lot of chatting and encouragement - Nice one Duncan. Shaun is now making and launching paper aeroplanes. His pericardium check was good. Still having treatment for the blood clot in his arm. He has commenced exercises under the orders of a Lady physio. His upper body movement improves but concern remains for his legs, that is his next challenge ---------------------------------- Now that Shaun is out of danger and the ICU ward and on the road to recovery I shall cease with daily updates and only report when milestones are achieved or there is some pressing news I will correlate all your messages of hope and encouragement and email the lot over to Germany. As a family and close friends we are all proper grateful and humbled by the messages of hope, support and encouragement received from the NBN family. 'Thank You' doesn't really cut but - Thank You anyway xx Griff
  14. Marshman I believe all dredging on the Broads, has to be approved by and in conjunction with, the EA. I may be wrong - not unusual as Griff will confirm!!!! I cannot confirm or deny - but I would tend to agree with you. However assuming you are correct - would the EA really not approve of the BA dredging the lower Bure to maintain navigation? I would hope not Griff
  15. Bytheriver But not from the Navigation budget surely - It could take the whole budget. And then some I fear. The Blessed Authority is the maker of its own problem here. Imho with regards to the Lower Bure - if they had just maintained what they inherited then three points 1) We wouldn't be in the situation we currently find the Northern broads. 2) They wouldn't be in a position of realistically not being able to afford to put it right financially or have the plant to do it on such a large scale that is now needed 3) We may, just may be holding them in a slightly better light Griff
  16. Day 25 A very good day today. His mobile support team report. He has been moved out of the ICU ward into his own room - a high dependency unit ward. He is talking with his OWN voice and sounds exactly the same prior to the emergency occurring. He is talking more lucidly too. He ate half a sandwich- his first ‘proper’ food by mouth. He is still on medication for the blood clot in his arm His antibiotic meds finish tomorrow. He is due a pericardium routine check tomorrow too His kidneys are good. He is moving his arms more. He looks and sounds like the Shaun we know. His besty (Duncan) arrived today from Jockland and will visit him tomorrow staying in his ward with him for the next few days Best news / day all of us have had to date Griff
  17. That Grendel is a really good and fair point. I’m gonna put it on the Brag group Why didn’t I think of I? Griff
  18. Day 24 Mobile support unit didn’t visit today, they intend to visit tomorrow. Duncan one of Shauns best mates from Jockland due arrive tomorrow and stay again for a few days Medical news - The blood clot near to his heart is just about fully sorted with no operation due. He remains off the ventilator. The tracheostomy has been removed today. Also he has been moved to his own room now whereby one of his ‘mobile support unit’ can now stay during the day & overnight with him. Griff
  19. Day 23 The mobile support team are currently relieved they have to wear face masks when visiting Shaun in the ICU. This is because Shaun has now got post operative delusion. (A normal phenomenon in these circumstances) This results in him coming out with some proper belters and keeping a straight face is awkward. Shaun of course believes everything he says. No end of friends & family have either visited or are in the room with him. (Some of whom passed away ages ago) When his support team leave, the ICU nurses put him on a puppies bed in the corner. They won’t take his shoes n socks off (He’s not wearing any of course). He’s going fishing with his mates in Scotland next week then driving down to Donny from his boyhood home in Gourock as that’s where he sometimes thinks he is. He’s stated he’s a dying man and the nurses still have not fed him Medically, he has now managed a full 24 x Hrs off the ventilator so the magicians are considering reversing the Tracheostomy soon. The blood clot near his heart and arm are still giving them cause for concern. His legs are very weak to the point that he isn’t moving them. He’s lost a lot of weight and won’t eat by mouth. Plus points, his memory is improving, he can talk in both his languages. He knows where he is and his actual real visitors Griff
  20. Got a rare early finish today. It wasn’t raining for a change either So, got the rims swapped over on Trevor with the winter boots now on. Tis a time consuming affair, then having to deep clean the summer units prior to storing them. They are currently in our conservatory drying off MrsG being away I can get away with this! Next time, put away the summers and repeat the exercise on MrsG’s Q5 Griff
  21. ‘Scuttling’ I’d love to see Dave Scuttling - Does he even know how? Griff
  22. If that’s the case Tobster, then so have the rest of the northern Broads too Griff
  23. Day 22 Shaun generally feels good, not in too much pain unless he moves. Nothing worse or better so marking time. His med levels were causing some amusement, he thought our Nadine & Dale had been to visit along with his Mum & Dad (They have both been lost for a fair while now) He was also intending to get hissen off to Donny for some chips! He was sat up for 1/2 an hour during his mobile support team’s visit. He is in good hands Griff
