  1. Quite agree that it does seem a little steep but "common sense" and the "B.A." are rarely used the in the same sentence. I'd suggest your friends get the train to Lowestoft!

    Well Done

Hi Rod! The Members area is currently being sorted by Jonzo and should be back very soon (he's manually having to add users to it). The reply box should work, but I found you had to click quite low in the text box in order to use it when I was using Internet Explorer 8. You could try downloading Mozilla Firefox and using that as your browser (which is what I have done) which is a much better browserthan IE8 anyway. As for the warning points, I can easily give you some if you like :
  3. Another vote for Beccles, I like the place! I've never had a problem with the toilets there personally, but not tried showering in them. I like the short walk up into town, and it's good to see it still seems to be a thriving market town with proper shops like butches and greengrocers, despite the Tesco invasion. As for Weatherspoons, I must be lucky in that I've never had cause to complain in the one's I've visited and always had a decent pint (at an excellent price!), so I'm looking forward to trying the Kings Head on our next visit. As an aside, I noticed at the weekend there is a new Weatherspoons in Lowestoft due to open some time later this year, right opposite McDonalds.
  4. Welcome to the forum Splishsplosh! Don't be afraid to ask anything you want. The members here have a wealth of knowledge and experience, both as hirers and owners
  5. Couldn't the Sun have got a photo of a more modern boat than Sabena's old Bel Air?
  6. Hi Dave I had a Propex on my last boat, which had similar symptoms once after I ran out of gas. To clear it the manual told me to turn the switch on then off again twice within 2 seconds. Took me ages to find that in the manual! I'm not sayin gthat is the fault you are experiencing, but might be worth a go!
  7. We've had great success with the Status 330 omnidirectional antenna on our boat, Clive since the digital switch-over. Admittedly this is only on the southern rivers, so I don't know how it would rate oop north. The only thing we have to do is retune the tv each time we move mooring, depending on which transmitter we are receiving from. They are certainly considerably cheaper than the sat dome version!
  8. I can't say I've ever seen armoured fuel lines on boats, certainly not on the three I've owned. It would make life a lot easier if boat manufacturers were to consider things like the BSS at the build stage though! It seems crazy to me that a brand new sea-going boat costing hundreds of thousands of pounds can fail a simple safety check like the BSS.
  9. Clive, I think you could almost guarantee the first bonking will coincide with the first booking (unless there will be a trial run during commissioning of course!)
  10. I agree in principle, but if the OEM parts are unmarked, how is the BSS tester supposed to be able to prove that the parts are indeed OEM and that some daft owner hasn't simply replaced their fuel pipes with a bit of rubber tubing from the market? I can't see how the BSS can be at fault for needing proof that the materials used are up to spec given the amount of bodge quality DIY that exists on boats.
  11. Hi Hylander I've shifted this topic in the Technical Questions & Answers area of the forum, as the Site Technical area is meant for questions specifically related to the forum itself. I've left a shadow in place, so you can still find your topic
  12. Dave, the CO detector I bought said in the instructions that a burning incense stick will produce enough CO to test the detectors operation if held close enough. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    A POEM

Well I liked it Baz! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  14. Le Boat had only been at Somerleyton for one or two seasons anyway, hadn't they?
  15. I've had an incident with a canoe race on the way up to Norwich where they were rowing hard towards me and taking up the full width of the river, leaving me absolutely nowhere to go. I had no choice but to stop and let the go around me. A few minutes later an angry ranger appeared and was after them stating "they have to obey navigation rules just like everyone else". As regard hirers using bow thrusters for corners, I have seen it a couple of times but it ain't that effective! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
  16. Glad you sussed it John. The mistake in this one was to copy the URL code instead of the IMG code, as I guess you've figured out.
  17. Does seem to be a bit of a p**s take. What about the bit infront of the Nelson which is apparently owned by the pub (if the signs are to be believed)? I guess the argument would be that you have to pay everywhere else there is a ranger present (Yarmouth, Norwich, Oulton Broad, Beccles, although the last two are not BA) so why not Reedham?
  18. You'd have to ask the tech expert that John, but instead of storing the photograph on the forum server, the only thing being stored is the link you pasted, so just a few text characters. The, picture is downloaded from Photobucket every time you read the thread. The one downside is if someone deletes their picture from Photobucket, the link will no longer be able to find the picture and so the post will have a blank instead of the photo. 19. CO2 = Carbon Dioxide. Non poisonous but suffocating....
  20. I used to shoot recurve with Taverham Archers in Norwich, but I'm afraid this boating lark took up too much of my spare time so the archery went by the wayside!
  21. Hi Trev, Yes, Flickr is another alternative, but they do limit the amount of photos you can upload on a free account I think. I use both, but find Photobucket easier to use for simple uploads.
  22. I was quite surprised to see we still had 3G coverage on the iPad with EE whilst cruising down past Somerleyton Bridge to Oulton Broad. Certainly much better than Vodafone which only gets it in big towns!
  23. One of the biggest costs to the forum is storage space, and one of the biggest users of this storage are uploaded images. Using an image hosting site for your photos is easy, quicker that uploading directly to the forum, and takes up no space therefore making the forum cheaper to run! One I have been using of late is Photobucket http://www.photobucket.com . Opening an account is free, and uploading photos is very easy indeed, meaning you don't even have to resize your pictures for the forum. Once uploaded, you simply copy the image link from photobucket which looks like this "http://i1311.photobucket.com/albums/s668/Mark-Bird/83a3bc6620c7137ca303c3a72e1cca88_zps06144f0b.jpg" and paste it into your post. Your pictures will appear in your post as normal. There is also a Photobucket app for iPads etc, making it simple to post your pictures in the same way if you do not use Tapatalk. We would like to encourage all members to give this a go, which will help a lot to conserve valuable (and expensive!) disk space for the forum and make future forum maintenance easier. Any problems, please ask, and I am sure we can sort them out
  24. I've just ordered 2 CO detectors following a thread on another forum. For less than £15 each I feel a bit stupid not having done so before now.
  25. I thought ventilation area was part of the BSS, Trev? There is certainly a space for it on the test sheet which is filled in by the inspectors.
