Beware - Current Boat Thefts

BroadAmbition

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine (Alan, not a boat owner) rang me this morning just after 0800, He is on his way into Norfolk from Lincolnshire and had Radio Norfolk on in his vehicle.

The radio announcer stated that there had been a spate of recent thefts from boats moored on the Broads and it is on-going, everything from engines to equipment stored onboard.

So I thought it only good and proper to share the news with fellow forumites.

Please be aware and keep an eye out and check your security.

The YBW forums give a good view of boating thefts nationally, and we seem to get off pretty lightly here on the Broads, (some comfort anyway).

http://www.ybw.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?36-Stolen-boats-and-gear

Prime targets seem to be four stroke outboards in the 15hp to 25hp range.

Easy to manhandle, yet worth thousands of pounds.

They seem to be targeted by eastern European gangs that go round the country in the winter season and fill containers that are then shipped back to their own country.

So if you have that sort of outboard, you need to make certain that it is insured properly and secured with the specifically required  locking devices.

Insurance companies do not accept the Police soft covers in lieu of the approved locks.
