CaptinDread
So we have 2 Broads Authority bods up here who are testing the water points for any nasties. How they do this is to turn the tap on for half an hour and then get a sample. surely they could get a sample now without wasting water? what difference would running the tap for half hour have? just seems a bit hokey to me. JennyMorgan
Perhaps they were flushing the system so as to ensure that the water sampled is uncontaminated by having stood within the system. I always understood that water quality was the responsibility of the Environment Agency.
Jonathan
Note to self: Next time, when filling water tank, remember to let it run for half an hour first to ensure that it's not "contaminated".
Baitrunner
How right Jonathan. I bet no one has used those taps in the last couple of weeks!!!! Surely you measure the worse case scenario.
Matt
Don't you have to run taps fairly regularly to stop Legionnaires Disease? Granted 30mins seems excessive (unless paid by the hour!) and that they would be used regularly but risk assessment are risk assessments! andy
The last hose pipe ban we had the fire Brigade turned up and turned on the fire hydrant for 30 minutes all down the drain
dnks34
Legionella is not such a problem on cold supplies as long as the cold water stays below 20 degrees C. Its more of an issue above 20 and below 60 degrees C. Its not impossible though
Siddy
Unused outlets i.e. your cellar or outside taps ect on a normal building is 2mins weekly to stop Legionnaires Disease etc your only flushing a small section of pipe. But depends how long the run is back to the next used section which could be a distant on moorings. Think they should have took a test after a few mins then after the 30mins to see the readings. I always flush the hoses to run cold before filling the tank.
Chelsea14Ian
Always the same, when ever there is a hose pipe ban,as sure as eggs are eggs. The villain is water leaks, who is responsible? the water companies .I agree I thought the Environment agency were responsible. Siddy
It's whoever the supply belongs to so if there Ba's moorings they 'should' be responsible. We have to test our buildings weekly and put our name to it for temps tested and any flushings. It's all part of the blame game incase someone gets ill. C.Ricko
I would give them the best chance of getting a good reading as it the readings are dubious then the tap may be turned off for good..
alexandlorna
Its not the first time I have saw folk in the boatyard after hours , having a fill up on the fly - from a hose that's used only to flush out black water tanks - Yuk !
