JennyMorgan
Once a popular pastime for owners of coastal craft moored at Brundall, the Trundle is now a mere shadow of its former self. There was a time when scores of marine opulence would brave the placid waters of the Waveney & the Yare on their weekly adventure to visit the high life that is on offer at Oulton Broad. Not so many years ago there might have been as many as five deep gaggles of 'bling' moored alongside, over this past weekend there were no visiting Trundlers. Granted that the weather was dire but at least it was warm and we are well into June. Last summer there was a noticeable drop in G.P. numbers but why? Is it that the novelty has worn off? That fuel costs have risen or that sea-going boats are actually going to sea? Whatever, Oulton Broad is missing you, gin consumption has plummeted, the birth rate has dropped!!
Hockham Admiral
There's a 'mini-trundle' lined up at Brooms for sale at the moment......................
JennyMorgan
Once upon a time I worked at Chichester Marina, maritime version of Blue Waters car park only most never left it. I was always horrified by the statistics such as how many boats were for sale or how many that actually never left their moorings or how many only ever went out once or twice a year, or the very small percentage that actually went out with any regularity. I don't suppose Brooms is any different. So long as Friday Girl is not up for sale!
Hockham Admiral
The only chance of that, Peter, would be if we won alotta money.... then it would definitely be this!
JennyMorgan
Ah ha, a gin palace that actually looks like a boat, that it really it isn't a jelly mold, that it should go to sea, I do rather like that one, but where does the sail fit? BuffaloBill
So getting up to Hickling would be out then John
Baitrunner
We did one of these 2 yrs ago. Not just brundall based smellies either. It was our first and at the time it was an annual event. Sadly no one has organised another one since! I can only sunmise we need an organiser. I would have been up for it and know a few other boat owners in brundall who'd love to do this. We just need a kick up the Jacksie!!!
diesel falcon
Oulton does seem to be going downhill, maybe it,s the mooring fee? and the shakey lock just recently, needs a shake up ,and how about a new mariner where the old boat yards were? been a waste ground for far too long, scruffy house boats dumped anyhow dosn,t help, imho
BroadScot
I must say, I thought that houseboat would have moved on by now. For that reason we did not go to Oulton In May. Not exactly a picturesque view IMHO (Must be costing a few quid keeping it there, I would have thought) Iain
Baitrunner
I agree it's not picturesque. But surely the point is meeting with friends and fellow boaters rather than the scenery? To be honest apart from the power boat racing and the silly home made boat race we spent most of the weekend socialising. A dodgy houseboat wouldn't have bothered us other than making a good discussion (drunken whinge) point'
diesel falcon
If you go to bramerton from brundle there,s a steady trundle of boats out for the weekend, with free moorings and one very good improvent of electricity posts, a trip down to oulton through two bridges and expensive moorings might be swinging the balance??
JennyMorgan
The Lock is no longer dodgy, despite that only one boat used it on Saturday, my daughter's RCC Spray. She'd been trapped on the wrong side of the Lock.

She'd been trapped on the wrong side of the Lock. she must have been the boat we saw coming through the lock Saturday morning then just as we was leaving the Wherry Hotel having had breakfast. The boat looked like a Cornish crabber.

We take over Lightning early afternoon on Saturdays. The last couple of times we have headed upriver the moorings at Bremerton have been full with 'Big Uns' presumably from Brundall. Of course they are perfectly entitled to moor there . . . they will only be staying for 24 hours won't they. Roy
Bound2Please
That makes two of us then, the HM told me no one else had been through. That was about 9am Peter, one male on board and I think someone else who I couldnt see. But only saw it briefly coming under the road bridge when in lock is was to low down

Last year we trundled up there about 4pm on the Saturday and full so back to surlingham to overnight. Sunday morning up to Whitlingham Park, mostly the same boats moored up. Sunday afternoon back from Whitlingham and overnight at Bramerton. Monday morning saw several of the same boats moored mostly around the electric post that were there at 4pm on the Saturday. JennyMorgan
Perhaps a more mundane reason, the first mortgage paid for the boat, the second one, to fill the fuel tanks, was refused!
