Labrador
A bit of fun, can you name the pub or pubs these people had some thirty to forty plus years ago. Most of these places are in a specific area of broadband. 1) Tony Masala 2) Gilly Tallowin 3) Malcolm Potts 4) Freddie Urbanedes 5) Ted Shadbolt 6) John Lacey 7) Harry Dace 8) Peter Turner 9) John Rawson 10) Tony Sands 11) Mick Richardson 12) John Andrews 13) Tom Farrell 14) Ray Norman
NorfolkNog
Wow! Ray Norman - White Horse Upton Tom Farnell - Bure Court/Salhouse Lodge? Peter Turner had the Golden Star in Norwich but probably not the same one! Nice one Lab, will have a think.
LizG
6. Black Horse Hoveton 5. Ferry, Horning 11. Broadshaven but what was the one in Stalham 2. New Inn Horning?
Wussername
Tony Sands: A night club in Ranworth and then I believe the Hotel Wroxham.
Labrador
Howard, you are correct, Winkle No.14, and with Tom Farrell No.13 (but which was the last pub he had in the city before retiring to France?). Yes different Peter Turner, a riverside pub and Peter was 6'8''! Liz, You should know more than four! Micks last pub in Stalham was the Maids Head (defunct). Wusserrname, correct but the other way round. But what pub (Whitbread) did he have before going to the Hotel Wroxham? He was reputed to be the youngest landlord in the country when he took this pub. So we have Nos. 2,5,6,10,11,13 and 14 not bad, but some of the others might be a bit harder
Griff500
3 has two answers - New Inn in horning and a few years later White Horse in Neatishead. Freddie, 4, Swan in Horning
Labrador
Well done Griff500, but . 3 has three answers, after the White Horse he went to the Black Swan at Ingham by invitation of Woodfords. Freddie also had Bramerton Woodsend. I think before Filly Tallowins son took it

Was it the Lion at Thurne by any chance???
Labrador
Correct Howard, well done. You're no spring chicken are you?
Labrador
Right, we have 1,7,8,9 and 12 to go. Just to add two more, Auther Oakey and Georgie Brookes, Oh, and another Tom Billington. There was also a pub at the upper reaches of the Thurne that was reopened as a pub, having been closed for 21 years, can only remember his nickname as ,Happy. Vaughan, Liz took Abbott up there on Forester at 12 weeks old and some bigger got him missed on Abbott!
MauriceMynah
I'm trying to remember the name of the landlord of the Rising Sun Coltishall back in the late sixties. First name I think was Sid.
Labrador
MM, Tony and Babe can't remember surname, were in there early 70's.
Labrador
Now I have a question, Donald Pleasance, I only knew him as a relief in various pubs, but for the life of me I cannot remember what pub/pubs he was landlord of. He was a total gentleman.

Would the pub be the Lion at West Somerton? Think that was closed for a while before reopening again.
NorfolkNog
Did John Rawson have the pub next to the Kings Head? The one that's now boarded up? Just can't remember the name off-hand.
Labrador
Correct Howard, yes it's had a chequered recent history, but it was a private house back in the sixties'sh Happy was looking to open a B and B, but discovered someone in the village still held the license, so he opened it as a pub.
Vaughan
What an excellent quiz. Well done Labrador! Geoff Pleasants had the Maltsters at Ranworth for many years and later went into semi retirement as a relief man for various pubs, including Ranworth Country Club. He was indeed, a true gentleman and a great friend of my parents.
Vaughan
What about Wolff and Andrée Chater? (that'll get you), or Dick Chance? Tony Loweth. Simon Whitmore (of course). George Millbank. Wally Moore, Ted and Daphne Rutter, Jack and Connie, and Patsy Dashwood. Harry Last.

Oh dear didn't do well, but it was a few years ago and the old grey matter in that respect isn't so good at remembering. Certainly remember West Somerton, one of our regular haunts after it re-opened. Going either by boat or cars I remember the Australian barman 'Bruce' at the Ferry - was it you Labrador that nearly got thumped by him after you took the **** And the eggs in the Broadshaven late at night, checking to see which dog had the best catch!!! Eating all Mick's bacon and home made rolls set out for breakfast the next morning.......those were seriously fun nights/ days.

BroadScot
One name I don't see is Bob Mclaughlan at the Berney Inn with Paul? They were there for a few years in the 70s into the 80's Iain
Springsong
Patsy Dashwood had the Buck at Thorpe and her husband had The Bell in Norwich centre, and I think her daughter had the White Horse at Crostwick. Arthur Oakley had The Broads Hotel which was then taken by the Bales family whose son bought the Lodge from Tommy Farrel and still has it to this day. Tommy Farrel last pub before retiring was the Ber Street gates in Norwich. Incidentally George Brooks went on to take the Brown Derby in Norwich. Thanks of course Broads Haven.
