  1. Vulcan bomber investigated over banned barrel roll......... msn news........ The acrobatic manoeuvre was captured on film as the Vulcan bomber performed one of its last flights over Lincolnshire The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating whether Britain's last flying Vulcan bomber performed a banned "barrel roll" manoeuvre in one of its last flights. The alleged roll, which would have broken conditions on the Cold War nuclear bomber's airworthiness certificate, was captured on camera as it flew over Grantham, Lincs, on October 4. NOT BAD FOR A BIG OLD GIRL.....

    Breydon

Not going to quote exactly, but Dave (Dajen) said something like..... Who researches their holiday ....... Well when my OH booked our first broads holiday some 20 odd years ago.... I RESEARCHED..... I was dealing in lamps (that is the term that some people call bulbs, but bulbs grow in the ground, lamps are a light source, that when you click the button on the wall they illuminate) Anyway, my research was getting 4 boxes of eight foot fluorescents out and laying them end to end in the warehouse, just to see how long a 32ft broads cruiser was.... We picked it up from Brundall, stayed at Reedham for the first night and went across Breydon the next day.... tides... ebb.... flood... no idea and no problems. Oh, and we had to come back south across breydon a few days later, ebb.... flood.... springs...neaps.... still no idea and still no problems. My point is...WHY DO SOME PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM MAKE OTHERS THINK IT IS A BAD AND DANGEROUS PLACE, and MUST only be passaged at the exact time to make it saintly. And if it is true that freedom and woods don't allow you to cross breydon, any other time than slack/low water.... I am one person who will not be requiring their services.
  6. Just going to take a break..................... Probably see you again soon...............
  7. as people have said NO AGE AT ALL Born 27/5/43 72......... My mum was born 27/5/43 Lucky for me I was with her today......
  8. I was going to say Cornwall for the caravan, but that would be showing off.....and a bit more than 500 squid...
  9. and nearly turned into a numpty/novice/hulabaloo Come on, with all the boats stuck, have you done it or NEARLY done it....... I HAVE...... One year crossing breydon from Yarmouth to Bernie..... Tide going out, pushing against it at about 1600 rpm getting nowhere fast........ BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, Engine light came on temp gauge needle trying to leave the boat............ Throttled down straight away........... BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP .............ENGINE CUT OUT.......... Boat started going backwards.... Went to front to throw mud weight out, looked back and saw a post coming up, decided (right or wrong) may be able to get rope round post, so ran to back,...... By the time I had got to back, post in front, and I was on the wrong side of it............ Went back to front to put mud weight down and hope....... As passing helm, decide to try and start engine......... IT STARTED....... Nursed to Bernie, moored up, checked weed filter, oil, water etc.... nothing amiss... Never had a problem rest of holiday... But could have been a numpty/novice/ hulabaloo if people had seem me stuck on the mud...
  10. What if ALL boat yards did what dnks34 said, and just put up the hire charge by the CDW..... Then charged a security deposit..... NO NO NO NO NO......... That would make the price of the holiday look TOO expensive........ Just think..... When you look at booking a holiday, whether it Broads/caravanning/tenting or abroad, what is the first thing you look at...... The INITIAL cost Boat..... £500 caravan....... £500 Hey Love, they are both the same price, lets try a boat on the broads...... Hang on Mr Husband.... what about the fuel for the boat..... Don't worry about that my lovely wife, what we spend on fuel for the boat we would spend travelling to places of interest in the car while staying in a caravan What about the mooring fees I have heard of Nothing at all my darling wife, we would have to pay to park the car in a car park while visiting places of interest while staying in a caravan OK my husband, lets go on the broads, Hang on Mrs, they want £50 for damage waiver That makes it £50 dearer to go on a boat, but hey, we've spent enough time looking into it, lets book the boat...... ....................................... Boat £550 caravan £500 Sorry love, boat is too expensive. looks like Yarmouth in a caravan this year............ .................... And on a serious note.... Isn't ALL car insurance, and PRIVATE boat insurance just a CDW..... You pay your premium (cdw) don't claim and loose it anyway... ............................................
  11. why would the boatyards do away with CDW and go back to Security deposit..... Lets say the CDW is £50........ Security deposit £250........ 100 boats out on hire for the week........ 1 GETS STUCK........ 99 return with no problems with security deposit boat yard keeps 1 x £250 = £250 returns the other 99 deposits With CDW boatyard keeps 100 x £50 = £5000... Just a thought...... And I don't think the people who do stupid things will be more careful to try and get their deposit back....
  12. There was a program on TV last night about the Delta bombers, very interesting with their part in the Cold War... And the reason for the Vulcan changing colour from Anti Flash White to Camoflage. It was the only Delta bomber that could operate at low level..... Edited to add.... According to the program, it was the first Bomber to do a barrel roll, the test pilot was told off, as this sort of stunt was not acceptable for a Bomber, but left to the high spirits of fighter pilots..
  13. Should we all still be driving Morris Minors, I don't understand why, that at every chance Neil, you have to mention ALL boats designed for the broads.... They weren't designed that good if they can't fit under now.... Sorry mate, but getting tedious..... Or does the bridge just have to be raised enough to let your boat through at any state of tide
  14. That is a VERY good question..... I am only speaking now for myself.......... As a holiday maker in broadland, or anywhere else, I have my holiday money, I know that I will not be sat in a pub in Donny having a drink at 2 fifty a pint........ And I will have my family, I am expecting to get a round of drinks for 6 people at £25 ( Donny prices £15) that's broadland.... Now Cornwall..... my other holiday location..... £25....... London..... £25 quid Manchester £25 quid Problem with broadland pubs, is the HOLIDAY SEASON............... How many BROADLAND pubs, struggle out of season........ And by BROADLAND I mean the riverside pubs, I know Norfolk/Suffolk has lost non riverside/holiday maker pubs, but so has every town/city in the UK.... NO MATTER WHAT THE PRICE ON HOLIDAY
  15. I was lucky enough at the ripe old age of 17 to fly in a PITTS SPECIAL...... It was the Leicester Mercury Pitts Special..... I was doing my pilots licence through the Air Cadets at Leicester, and the chief flying instructor was Barry Tempest ( I think that was his name) he was an aerobatic pilot, and took me as a passenger in the Pitts .... did the full aerobatic routine..... the best was the Wing drop stall..... go vertical and when the plane looses speed and comes to a stop, nose up, full rudder and down you go.... After 33 years I think my stomach is still up there....
  16. my brain hurts trying to think why Quo....... Is it to get in my way.... No.... I know, it is to dry the big sheet on the stick in the middle of their boat.... Knew I would get it eventually....
  17. Gracie...... Bridges are NOT like sailies at all........ Bridges go from one side of the river to the other for a reason......
  18. http://www.whitbysrestaurant.co.uk/content/themes/whitbys/assets/img/home/doncaster.jpg this is the small one in Donny, used to be the fire station opposite the racecourse
  19. Is that the one at the Racecourse..... (Donny racecourse) Had a takeaway from there, reasonably priced and very nice...
  20. Yes PC gone wrong again. As an aside, scroll down to the last picture, the caption says "...who played Titty, not pictured....) Correct me if I am wrong, but Titty would not be pictured in a "still/photo" of The Coot Club.
  21. may he who has never sinned, cast the first stone ( can't find a stone throwing smiley)
  22. Well derrrrrrrr, I'll have to take your word for that A quick edit..... this is not referring to the 90/100mph, as it was added after my reply....
  23. quote from Griff "heading East on a single carriageway 60mph area. The car is dong 55-ish" Now he was wrong to accelerate to stop you overtaking him, but what speed were you going to overtake him at in the 60 limit.....
