I have to agree with miss smelly loo here...... The best time I have had on the Broads was when we hired San Pedro.... a rear steer..... To catch the tide we set off from Bernie to get through the bridges at yarmouth as soon as we could, i knew that I would have to have the canopy down, as the falling tide would not be low enough with it up... (before people say, wait till slack water, or go with the tide to save fuel, i needed to be North as soon as, so went over Breydon with the flow and turned at the dolphin against it) IT WAS PIZZING IT DOWN I went over breydon, canopy down waving like a nutter to the "bathtubs" coming south, I had my full waterproof fishing gear on, you should have seen their faces, and if you could lip read, I was called all the silly names under the sun.... But I hit the bridges, (not literally), at the perfect time, straight under and Northward bound...... THEN...... It blerdy stopped raining It's no fun boating in perfect weather.... You learn nothing.....

Just reading this again, and BuffaloBill, said... Filling the bilges would only lower it by 1"... To be honest I only know that a bilge pump is used to take water out of the bilges, to stop the boat sinking I guess. Is the "bilge" the bottom of the boat, and does it run from front to back, like a gap between bottom of hull and floor of boat.... If the "bilge" is the hole/gap between floor and bottom, then if you filled it with 1" of water the boat would go down 1" If you could fill the "bilge " with say 2 foot of water, (probably not possible) then surely the boat would go down by 2 foot..... A boat floats by displacing the same volume/weight of water that the boat weighs, so if you put water in it to add weight, surely it should go down in the water by the same margin as the depth of water in it, if the "bilge" is all of the bottom of the boat.... PS.... it was not me, I wasn't anywhere near Yarmouth on that day....

Speeding..... I was reading my "toys" hand book.... It has a retractable spoiler, that ... according to the hand book.... pops up at 75MPH, and goes back down at 50MPH.... Now..... If I went by Mr Plod, on the motorway at 69MPH, (perfectly legal), but if my spoiler was up, and he read my hand book, he could think I had been speeding.... I had to check the hand book, and you can not see the spoiler from the driving seat.... But with the nice low sun, you can see the shadow, if you are going the right way.... I am a very safe driver..... So I went down the A1 roof down, head looking over the side to see the shadow.... And it went up AT 75, so I phoned my Mrs, and told her.... She said really, can you see it now..... So I put the phone to my other ear, put my drink down and told her I could... That's when Mr Plod came up behind me.... He must have been speeding to catch up with me.... After I had pulled to the hard shoulder, he got out of his car....... He gave me my hand book back and said.... YUP, IT GOES DOWN AGAIN AT 50........
