  1. A great post, Tom! Just so surprised at your comment about the Wayford Bridge: Thursday: For our last full day we set off from Wroxham and up the River Ant and onto Barton Broad...we then went for a lunch stop and a hoped for pint in the Wayford Bridge Inn. This was the first bad service we experienced. Elaine and I went into the bar and waited ages for someone to appear. A waitress/barmaid looked at us several times from the other side knowing we were waiting to be served but just carried on talking to someone and ignored us!....we waited another couple of minutes and thought ‘sod this’ and walked out...can’t abide ignorance. So we got back on the boat and went to the Sutton Staithe Hotel instead......much nicer pub and people and had a pint there. Marco Pierre White (who's a mate of mine) owns it and when we stopped at the Acle Bridge on Sunday Phil, who runs that, was telling us that his ex-manager now runs the Wayford Bridge and that she'd cleaned it up! (We by-passed it this year 'cos it was so bad last year).
  2. Thanks for that, Tom, and welcome back from us.
  3. Robin, Hi Another wonderful instalment! Next time I suggest you fill up at Boulters in Horning, usually the cheapest on the Broads (£1.18 /L at the mo). F&C in Hoveton? ALL the locals tell me you can't beat the Chinese Chipper next but one to Ken's. They've been there for years and the son now runs it. We had them last week and they were delicious.
  4. It was blowing hard tis morning when I took these pics. The Cherry trees have been beautiful over the last two days:
  5. The Wherry, Broad View, Lady of the Lake and the Red herring all have free wifi in Oulton broad
  6. Boulter Marine at Horning are very reasonable for a few-days rental. Tell them we sent you.
  7. And before you ask why I'm up at this ungodly hour.... I need to leave here, Acle, at 05.45. And I don't like to rush about at this hour of the morning! We had a lovely meal in the Bridge last night and were well looked after by Phil and his team throughout the day.
  8. Oh Dear, Clive........... I'd better give up on our "Spring Cruise", then!
  9. So sorry to hear that, Neil... I'll let M-J know tomorrow. October meet isn't finalised yet until we hear about the condition of an alternative to CH
  10. Beautiful, Trev.............. Blackbirds, do I remember?
  11. Trev, Hi Just read an article in the EDP where it says that the BA will spend money on improving/renovating moorings rather than dredging.... then goes on to say that over-speeding boats cause so much bank erosion and subsequent increased silting...... What was the Breydon boat doing at St Olaves??? Can't the normal launch operate there anymore? This new boat was bought to patrol Breydon, or so I thought, so why was it so far away that it needed to exceed any sensible speed limits that everyone else has to observe?
  12. Lovely pics, Trev. Trust us to be oop North this week!
  13. Thanks for that reminder, Chip, I've put it in the diary!
  14. That's a good tip, thanks, Mark. I must try that with our Velcro strips which hold the forward curtains in place... they're always coming off.
  15. Welcome aboard from us, too.... we'll be stopping by to see you in the near future!
  16. That's terrible news, Lori, but perhaps not unexpected with all the recent financial activities there. Ditto your thoughts to all the salties who own them.
  17. Ours were from (DON'T START!) Aldis. brill value at £15 for 15m........ had them for 3 years now and still in good nick. Why have an eye splice??? I just use a bowline to fasten them to the cleat and then take them off every winter for a wash in the machine.
  18. It works for me too, Steve. Gives a monthly calendar and member's birthdays ( if they've given them).
  19. Hi, Bill. We're now moored up next to Little Gem at Horning Staithe... we helped tie her up this morning and I quite agree.... the young couple on-board must be on very friendly terms!
