Possibly, but why should people feel the need to share that 'speculation' on a forum which may quite easily be seen by a friend or family member of those involved? It amazes me that people seem to find acceptable certain behaviour on the internet, which they would condemn in 'real life'

Never, ever buy non-stick pans The cheap ones are next to useless and the expensive ones, not worth the money. Invest in a couple of robust, heavy, stainless steel saucepans (the ones with copper bottoms are the best) and a similar frying pan and prove them before usie. The weight is important for even cooking and also for increased stability. Also, when using a frying pan, heat it BEFORE adding the oil/butter to help prevent the food sticking to the pan.

Then again, they may have had a problem with the engine or steering, or an emergency (e.g. a fire in the galley, an accident to one of the crew) - who knows? I find it difficult to understand why people think it is acceptable to post images such as this What can they possibly expect to achieve?, Holding people up to public ridicule leaves a nasty taste in my mouth, especially when the circumstances are unknown. If this forum, which I have always found to be tolerant, friendly and informed finds this sort of thing acceptable, then I'm not sure that I wish to continue to be a member.

Looks like a nice boat, but I can't say I'm a fan of the flooring and why are all the new boats designed with the steering position set so far back from the windscreen? I would have thought this could cause visibiility problems - a bit like driving a car from the back seat.

But there are plenty of road signs that you WOULD either need a manual or instruction in order to be able to read.

If I remember rightly, I think Richardsons' manual even gives a diagram of Breydon showing the correct course to take between the posts, so strictly speaking the ability to read should not be necessary! However, Poppy is probably right in that some people will not bother to open it.

I'm sorry, but if you can't understand the red/green markings,when it is clearly explained in all the manuals, then you have no business being in charge of a boat.

Juliette is a lovely boat, but a little impractical. Royal Ambassador OK, but the colour scheme is truly dreadful and it is showing it's age now, more so I think, than the 'gems'. I actually like the 'bathtubs' - nothing much to look at, but eminently suited to the Broads. I must agree with whoever mentioned the fact that many of the new boats, well built and equipped as they are, have no character whatsoever. . Pretty much the same as a lot of houses these days - bland and boring. Nowadays, all the new boats are white, and Richardsons, to make matters worse, have 'sanitised' quite a few of the old 60s/70s boats - shame on you Clive!

I suppose it really depends on whether your main reason for visiting the Broads is as a place in its own right, or as somewhere to indulge one's love of boating. For me, it is the latter; and to be honest, since we have joined one of the sailing clubs at Cotswold Water Park, a Broads holiday is no longer so important (especially since last year we spent most of our two week holiday using our hired cruiser as a floating holiday cottage, preferring to spend most of our time sailing.the dinghy). We can now spend as many weekends as we like on the water, and so prefer to holiday in our favourite country, Italy. (Next year we will ,for the third time, be cruising the Italian waterways, which has to be the 'best of both worlds', and something I would highly recommend - especially since the exchange rate is so favourable. Our planned holiday for next year is now £300 cheaper than was quoted in February). To be honest, last year I found the Broads rather 'down at heel'. We didn't venture south of Stokesby, so my comments are confined to the Northern Broads, but my impression was very much of a place that had seen better days. Having said that, I enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing holiday, and I cannot fault Richardsons. The boat, service and facilities were all top-notch. I would very much like to be able to visit the Broads in winter. We had Christmas 2008 on the Broads in a Royalls hireboat and it was a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, the hire companies don't seem to have boats available at that time of year anymore.

Owing to work and family commitments I haven't visited the forum in a while. I must say I am somewhat disappointed that the once 'friendly' forum seems to be indulging in the same divisive rhetoric which has culminated in such damaging results elsewhere. Yes, there are bad hirers, just as there are bad owners. Accidents happen in all walks of life; whether the architects of them are more or less culpable depends on the circumstances, but they are all non-intentional. I have the greatest sympathy with those whose property is damaged through no fault of their own, wherever the incident takes place. However, I cannot see how penalising a whole group of people for the reckless actions of a few is either just or helpful.

I cannot understand how anyone who has any empathy could possibly post a statement like this. I hope that none of Jimmy Saviie's victims or their relatives read this. How you can equate someone who (and this is to give the worst to have been said of him) has killed two chidren, with the systematic sexual abuse which Jimmy Saville has been accused of.
