Agreed! There is a toxic atmosphere developing here which the moderators seem unwilling or unable to curb, whilst at the same time penalising certain members for the flimsiest of reasons.

Can i ask why Snowy's post on the 'Anyone watching Russels latest Vlogs' post was censored (apparently) for the use of a word whose meanings include ' an undercarriage with four or six wheels pivoted beneath the end of a railway vehicle' whilst JennyMorgan's use of the words bugger and buggers is deemed acceptable?

I've been away for a month and whilst catching up I was horrified to read this - ' lines of decrepit wrinklies with hands clasping, at 'ten to' and 'ten past', and noses only just reaching the top of the steering wheel.' What an appalling comment from a member of the 'Events and Promo Team' and how sad that no-one has objected to it. Were a similar comment to be made about people of a particular race or gender there would be an outcry, but it seems that the senior members of society are 'fair game'. Shame on you, Timbo, and shame on you, NBN for not only allowing such a comment to pass, but also appointing such a person to a position of authority.

If the wind is strong enough, wouldn't it be easier and far more cost effective to gauge the wind direction by the tried and tested finger-licking method, or even by just standing on deck and turning to face the wind. In a light wind, assuming we're talking about powered craft, it really doesn't matter. Either way the tide also has to be taken into consideration and no amount of flags is going to help with that! I really fail.to see why people have to complicate matters when,every year, thousands of holidaymakers manage perfectly well. Some posts on this thread have left me extremely concerned about the level of customer service which is perceived as acceptable by some businesses. Firstly, we have Labrador who ' having spent 16 of my 48 years in the industry on hirefleets ' thinks it acceptable to reply to a customer's legitimate concerns with - ' Surely the shower pump button, if overlooked on your trial run, would be pointed out in your boat manual, which you would have seen when you read it, you did read it I take it, many don't bother.' I have rarely read a nastier, more condescending statement. Then we have Vaughan's - ' Surely this must have been a mis-understanding since a hire boatyard is like a small hotel - we have loads of spare linen! Again, an appalling reply to what most in the industry would consider a commonplace request. There has been a lot of discussion on this and other forums about the reason why so many small yards are closing. If the above comments are a true reflection of the attitude of these businesses, then the only question is how they managed to survive for so long.

Personally, I think the Victory is excellent value at that price, but surely the ticket gives access to all areas of the dockyard (at least it did when I was last there). One of my enduring memories is being there for the Trafalgar 200 celebrations in 2005 - a fabulous weekend, despite the crowds.

Unlike everyone else, I'll say make a plan. OK you probably won't stick to it, but it will help to focus on places and activities to suit your family. You'll need to fill up with water every day, and if you're eating onboard, then you'll need to plan on where to stock up. Have you thought about hiring a dinghy along with your cruiser? I'm sure your teenager would love the independence of rowing around Malthouse (Ranworth), South Walsham or Salhouse Broads.

I can't say the lavatories at the yard would bother me, as long as they're clean (I'm used to travelling in Europe and Africa) and I certainly wouldn't require the boatyard to provide me with a shower or tea or coffee. Anyone would think that there were no facilities between the 'far North' ( where is that, then?) and the boatyard.

OK - I could have worded my post a little better, but I stand by my view that people hide behind the anonymity of the internet to express opinions which they would not do were they in a face to face situation.
