  1. Lidl's own brand! I have to type quick because my boss keeps noticing I have these forums open too much
  2. Hi Steve, Most are supplied with a transducer that needs installing under the water so for these you would need to be out the water and you will need to drill a couple of holes in the hull.. you can get "in hull" transducers which you can position inside though which can be done afloat.. (we fitted one of these in our project and it only took a few moments) although these will probably be supplied with more expensive units, naturally! Mes (http://www.mesltd.co.uk/sonar-fishfinders-c-1030_24.html) are really good and I use alot.
  3. I must admit I'm failing into this new boat trap myself.. Although we have our plotter, fish finder and VHF left over from our last boat so they will just go in this boat.. plus I would like to do the odd bit of coastal cruising on the odd nice day... plus it's nice to have the odd little toy I did think of getting a PMR though as I thought these where widely used on the broads, instead of VHF's, to chat between friends so I'm surprised to read that they aren't. We do use the VHF on my folks boat though to get through somerleyton as its a bit tight but it's a big expense if you haven't got one already for just the one bridge which is generally always open. I'd suggest, instead, to invest in a depth gauge or fish finger (which has a depth too) because I swear there are shallow places on the broads and I hate not knowing now much water is underneath.
  4. certainly do David, to be honest I'd say it's the best bit.. I love seeing corners for some strange reason.. moreso if the materials used to make that corner have been fitted by us.. so you may see a few pictures of corners coming up lol!
  5. Lol thanks Iain! he knows we are all right although wont listen! (When its ice cold in there and he's not installed the heating he will though!) .. It's strange to see the plan, which is stuck in my head, slowly coming together.. hope it all works The mudweight from fellow member Paul is 22kg not 22lbs too so he will have to wear some shoes for that!!
  6. Thanks dad.. slowly slowly.. you guys should come down and take a look... (although don't stand too long I'll give you a paintbrush and some varnish!)
  7. Glad you guys had a good time.. We need pictures.. Publish pictures
  8. Hi Mark.. We use Morgans Timber, Strood. (Left at the roundabout near morrisons then under the little bridge). http://www.morgantimber.co.uk/. £28 + vat for a full sheet. Although they only do 6mm thick on shuttering board so you will need to epoxy the back (West or cheap epoxy). They do need to order in though as it's not stocked but they only need 2 days to do so. Highly recommend..
  9. Brilliant pictures all Can't wait for the calendar!
  10. Today's update.. We managed to make it a sunny "hop farm" for the kent boat jumble.. the field resembled Glastonbury.. they changed sites and the older one was indoors or on tarmac.. so I miss that.. Unfortunately for us it wasn't a good one.. we ticked a couple of bits off the list..(Windscreen wipers, fuel sender, hinges and loo hose was a good deal at £6 per meter).. The greasy burger van instantly made me want fatty food although we resisted but decided to stop off at KFC on the way home and then B&Q.. As previously mentioned to save some time we are going with an off the shelf kitchen instead of making one.. I found one I like (ok love) but couldn't get anyone to quote for us.. thankfully today we found someone to help and for the three cabinets its reasonable.. well expensive but it's solid oak doors and probably dark cabinets to match so it will fit it well with the rest of the boat.. (I'll probably order it soon). Back to the boat mid afternoon. We had a full sheet of ply left in the van which we brought for the headlining.. after lots of hassle (and hitting walls with fists (I mis-measured a bit but the wall moved to fit!).. we managed to use the board up and screw up in place.. they will get covered with foam backed headlining but obviously for now they just need cutting to size.. it's not an easy job although we did this one without using a tick stick which I think is good Couple of pictures attached.. as you will see she's really coming together..
  11. Thanks guys.. I can't tell you the amount of times I've told him to wear shoes but he just don't listen.. He does basically live in his work boots though and the boat floor is kept clean (mainly because he doesn't wear shoes!).. also we have learnt to wear goggles now so for once he was wearing them with the router but I do openly admit we aren't brilliant with elf and safety when we was building the houseboat we was even worse and looking back now god knows how we didn't end up in hospital.. we both have minor scars though... thanks for thoughts though.. I told him off on behalf of you all!
  12. Thanks David.. it would be nice to find bits and save some money on postage
  13. Today's update. Started nice and early.. Off to the timber yard to collect two more oak faced boards to complete the bulkhead walls (Believe it or not this brings the total to 7 full size sheets so surprising a lot of bulkheads! The timber yard know us by first name which is good! we are even getting good prices! Next stop was the chandlers to collect my price matched windscreen motor although the one they ordered didnt look too well so we told them to order again.. there's no rush for it so we can be fussy!.. Next stop was the electrical shop next door to collect the modern looking light switches but they were out of stock.. I'll collect midweek from the work near to my work as they have stock.. Back to the yard.. dave borrowed the work van again because this weather now doesn't permit transporting unfinished sheets on the estate cars roof rack.. Thankfully the last few bulkheads left to face are nice squares although the bigger one being the bathroom/loo door.. I suggested to Dave that we try and use a router (Although he asked what use that will be as it's used to supply the internet connection..!).. We've not tried it before so was reluctant (certainly when its on £40 worth of boarding) but I thought it was less risky than using a jigsaw.. picture attached of him using it and he's falling in love with it now (which is good) as it worked really well and made the job nice and quick. Thankfully this now means all bulkheads have these oak faced boards cut so just need varnishing and installing, which we will slowly do. Dave stayed over there for a few hours and got a coat of varnish on the boards. Only slight problem though.. the previous 5 boards we had the grain on the boarding was very minor.. the two supplied toward are a bit "in your face" nobbly knees?! Dave's worried I will want to re-cut the other board on that match the grain.. I'll have a look tomorrow.. Tomorrow is kent boat jumble and it's our last for this year (and potentially the last before shes all finished )so I've made a huge shopping list of all of the bits we still need .. although thankfully it's mostly small stuff.. hopefully we get some good deal and save a few pennies. Couple of pictures attached (Sorry I used Daves mobile and it's not too good.. also meant he delete most of the good ones before I could get them uploaded!) I'll take a few more tomorrow though.
  14. Thought that was my folks for a second there... (They are in norfolk this weekend so they wont see this...!)
  15. My sunset one was taken at malthouse (Ranworth) broad summer before last The broads is brilliant for sunrise and sunsets (this boat one is our project which is here in rochester at the moment). David (Deebee) please submit away. I think we have a good 4 to 6 weeks left before we need to send to print? Come on all submit away..
  16. and welcome from me too (sorry I'm a bit slow.. theres so many posts
  17. bump... Come on all.. attach your holiday photos (There's been some brilliant ones on the holiday tales). The 12/13 with the most "Likes" gets included (?!)....
  18. Keep them coming David these are brilliant! You have taken some lovely pictures too! You should submit them for our NBN calendar
  19. I must admit I looked at Richardsons catalog and "Wyndam Vacations (UK)" one and Richardsons one looked better (It even seemed to sell the broads better on the first few pages)! If i remember correctly Richardsons one even had more pages than the other for broads boats.. Plus the strange reduction in Richardsons boats which from what I remember where once a large (and proud part) of the hoseasons brochure. Does make you wonder why Richardsons stick with hoseasons... surely the Richardsons brand is big enough to go it alone?!
  20. You really do capture the essence of a broads holiday! These are all brilliant Keep these coming (I think you need to stay another week too!).. enjoy the rest of your time aboard. I hope anyone considering their first broads holiday will read your tale and understand why we all do it.. It really is just as written here...
  21. lol I thought he likes fishing and has a boat so she would be perfect.. lol (I think she hates me know!!)..
  22. Agree with Dave.. Installing a proper loo is much nicer.. I've not seen the hull of your boat although I would say you may struggle to find the space for the tank because shes an outboard boat and normans & shetlands are good at using every millimeter.. (Have a look around and make sure you have room for a large suitcase size tank ) We have installed (or are in the process of) installing a tank in our project ourselves.. Rough price £650 - £1000 (for a fresh water flush): (We went for the macerator one as I hate the pump ones and I can't do things in a bucket Loo: £100 - >£400 (£400 for a posh electric one). Tank: £100 (ebay) Tank Fittings: Around £150 (ASAP Supplies) Pipe: Around £150 (You need expensive special pipes if the tank is some distance from the loo). Seacock for flush: Around £40 . (Boat would need to be out the water). Other bits (Tank outlet, pipe, hose clips, etc): Maybe another £100. (If you aren't doing yourself its probably 3 days work so maybe another £300 on top?!)
  23. Lol.. I don't think the docs can help.. perhaps I need to stop eating soo much spicy food though!! I was thinking of you... Jon does have his own boatyard... Free moorings??.. more holidays in norfolk??.. wheres my thanks lol ??
