  1. If you like food try to catch a taste of britain tomorrow BBC1 at 3.45.This is with janet st Porter and Brian Turner, they will visit parts of Norfolk and do some cooking along the way.If you are working or out, put it on the planner. Ian
  2. Hi David Have a great time, was it you who asked if you can get under beccels old bridge? I am sure you can just check the tides with harbour master there,he will tell you. Ian
  3. Hi Steveo Your story seems the same as ours a group of fisherman came in after us and yet were served before us.As a chef with over forty years in the business, you do need to keep every one happy. For sure keep the locals sweet but a pub on the river will need the trade of holiday makers happy. Therefore if you charge people £10.00 to moor all be it refundable at the bar poor service and food , sooner or later you will lose trade.
  4. Hi Clive welcome have seen your boat, where do you moor your boat best wishes Ian
  5. Hi Iain like your story about Wroxham bridge.I think we all have seen all sorts happen at the bridge, just the other week we were moored at the hotel.I was getting some dinner ready, marina was at the laundry across the bridge. Then I saw a hire craft come out of the aircraft yard heading for the bridge windscreen up crew drinking I thought perhaps they just wanted a closer view of the bridge no they intended to go under.a lad cleaning the day boats told them not as the needed a pilot. By the way is it more bottles of sparkling or still water to fill you tank Ian
  6. I think most people vote with there feet or in the case of moorings there boat. Many people will pay 5 or 10 pound per night money back if you spend in the pub.The ferry at Horning does a good trade in the summer, most of which are holiday makers in hire boats.I however will not return unless the service and food improves. As for £20.00 moorings fees,I think you would be hard pressed to get anyone paying that kind of money Ian
  7. Hi hazel girl welcome from me also.Where is home we travel up to our boat or when its to cold staying in Norwich, at least once a mouth.Theres always a day boat to. Ian
  8. The answer is simple go to the New Inn instead,no moorings fees.Just pre book and uncle gus will sort you out Ian
  9. It is the case the moorings are not the best, however you should be ok if you have booked the food is very good, we went there last friday,so to is the staff who are very helpful. Ian
  10. Last year when we were looking for a new boat,we decided to try the ferry Inn at horning. It had been raining most of the morning, but the sun came out.We went in and asked the waitress if they were serving for,yes she said but i don't have a menu yet. When was this a busy summers day, no Feburary ,a little later we got a menu.We ordered then waited and waited, then I noticed a group of about ten fisherman came in after us and we served before us.I asked the waitress why they were served before us,oh sorry but they had already booked. As for the food there was lots of it but it was not very good. Will we go back no.
  11. I can't agree more it seems boats from the south cross perhaps from those of the north. One other thing is bridge heights .Specking to people on a boat fro wroxham a said are you going to the southern broads oh no we were told we can't get under Acle bridge and yet thet are only a few inchs taller then us (8.6). However there is lots of info available i.e. broadcaster, maps etc all giving bridge heights etc.It just takes a little bit of planning Ian
  12. Having just come back from the broads It is a little bit worrying about the state of some moorings at a few of the pubs. There is no doubt keeping moorings in top condition is costly, but boats bring money to the pubs, and please land lords and ladies it is worth the investment. Ian
  13. We have just come home from the boat after two weeks on the river, which was a great time.During our time on the broads we spent time taking to holiday makers, asking many if they were going to the southern broads.many said they were concerned about crossing breydon water or confusion about bridge heights . Is this a one off? I don't think so i have heard this many times before. As someone who moors at Brundall I welcome people from the northern broads , so to who ever please advise holiday markers how best to cross breydon and enjoy whats on offer on the southern broads. Ian
  14. As far as I know the pub is owned and has been managed for a number of years,I was told the rent was put up thus making it hard to make money. What has not helped is the fact that many hire companies advice people not to moor at berney. I hope the owners look at the best way to make the pub a success again Ian
  15. Hi Speedtriple You guessed right I am a chelsea fun and have been so all my life. Now we spend much of our time in Norfolk I look out for Norwich when they are playing. Ian
  16. Just watched Ade at sea, very good. A few years back Marina and I had two weekends on Canter, Thames barge over three years. The first was at Maldon the second from Ipswich.Good fun we had a full time skipper and two mates, the rest of us crewed,I can say for sure raising the main sail with two people was very hard work.It was a great weekend at sea during day time and stopping close to shore watching the sun set, with a beer or wine. Ian
  17. Alans not tight its just his money has the queens head on it, Its just queen liz 1 Ian
  18. Just to say I hope your foot is ok ,I to would ask is Berney inn open or not or does there opening hours change .We are going up next Saturday for two weeks and hope to go to Berney Ian
  19. About five or six years ago we were on the cut heading for Reedham when the red arrows were flying over we waved and than the wing men dipped there wings, what a day to remember Ian

Back in June we went for the first time visited londonderry, derry wow if you have not been make a point to do so.Lovely sights and the people are wonderful.DONT by put off by the past troubles . Plus all the small seaside towns around the country Still we all have are own ideas Ian
  23. We to had a problem going over breydon a couple of years ago we had a problem with our outboard on our old boat, therefore leaving a little later. We arrived at breydon in slight cloud with no hint of rough weather, however when we started to cross it became very rough i went over full speed,Marina first mate looked very white and holding on tight.Once crossed we made for oulton after mooring up Marina kissed the grould.Having said that crossing is nearly always fun but must be treated with respect.
