  1. Blakeney just now with 42 minutes to predicted high
  2. I think you will be pretty tight. At present the forcast is for the centre of a Low 991 pretty close to Cromer for midday Thursday. Had a Monsoon here for the last 12 hours which does not help. Good Luck! On the positive we should get rid of the northerlies and get some from the South. Normal Royal Norfolk Show weather.
  3. A whitewash. Lost all four. However after a lapse of over 20 years it was a start.
  4. At one time you could pay The Sceptre Preservation Society for a sail on our 1958 challenger. She used to feature in Classic Boat and the like now and again but I can't recall reading anything recently. I have a feeling that after spending some time around the Solent she returned to the place of her birth, the West Coast of Scotland. Certainly more affordable than J charter.
  5. Call me an old duffer! But I prefer 12 metre yachts. Or better still go back to J class. I still think Endeavour, built for Thomas Sopwith's 1934 (I think) challenge is the most beautiful yacht ever built.
  6. A couple of minutes walk and you could lunch at The Ship. The twin churches and ruins opposite are also worth a visit. There is a small monastery garden where it is veru peaceful to just sit in summer.
  7. Fairhaven is also a way to pass an enjoyable couple of hours and get a snack and drink whilst MarineTec service your Honda, Mariner, Yamaha or Tohatsu. Early in the season the Candelabra Primroses are especially beautiful.
  8. What really gets me about these people is their anti-social antics can be very upsetting and frightening for families who have come to Norfolk for a peaceful holiday. The Magistrates should ensure that the word gets out that if you behave in such a fashion it is going to be an extremely costly weekend. For serious cases the court should be convened on a Monday morning in order that the now sobered up and much poorer perpetrator can then explain to his employer that his failure to turn up for work and not phone in was because he was taken directly from cell to court to answer the charge of whatever he gets done for.
  9. The invasive American Signal Crayfish is very tasty, that is why they tried to farm them. My Son catches them on the river that runs through our shoot. Be warned there are very strict rules govening their capture. Also they need a period in clean water eating oats or something clean before boiling to eat.
  10. Nothing accelerates osmosis quicker than regular swapping from salt to fresh water. I used to moor at Ridge Wharf up the River Frome and go to sea via Poole Harbour. A Wareham based Marine Surveyor told me that it was one of the worst hotspots for Osmosis in the area, many more cases than near the harbour entrance and boats seeing it at a much younger age. I remember a beautiful Morgan Out Island of about 40ft being lifted and it looked like Teredo Worm in GRP had arrived and was horrified to be told by CDR. Clarke that it was not yet 4 years old. I think that it probably ended up in Court because he also told me that when the owner phoned the US to complain he was told to paint it with a high build two pack and re antifoul! " The trouble with you British is you are neurotic about it, sail the Gulf and nobody bothers" he was told.
  11. Looks parasitic. I have heard of black spots in salt water fish tanks.
  12. The sticker on the window is a Seaglaze fabrication marker. Volume users could be Viking/Seamaster or Shetland. I think the central panel is removable before the screen is folded therefore. VIKING
  13. An Origo alcohol hob ( if you do not have gas aboard ) would warm you up some water a lot quicker. Alcohol/Meths is a tried and tested source of heat on boats for years and one of the safest.
  14. I have a bit of a hang up with these covers. The manufacturers engine cover is an integral part of the design of the whole engine. It keeps out damp, abrasive sand and dust, and holds in heat after the engine has stopped to make sure it is dry. Many components of outboards like starter motors, alternators ( though most small engines used on the broads probably charge via a coil ) are mounted vertically, not on the horizonal plane as say in a car engine, this makes them very prone to damp damage. I am not knocking the Police cover, but personally would put it over the OEM cover as I would never leave a modern OB. Without it's proper engine cover in place for extended periods.
  15. Don't use a shotgun or you will spoil the pelt! I need a new winters coat.
  16. My 2.3 metre inflatable is in my garage. Thwart, oars and 2x pumps on boat at Stalham. Probably a little small if you have a party on board but you are welcome to a loan. I have not tolled it this year.
  17. Funny old life. I used to be just the same about holidays. Started planning passages on our sea going boat or routes across the continent by car as soon as soon as I got home. They were always over in what seemed like "the blink of an eye" . For the last eleven years I have not worked I can do and go anything, anywhere. But it does not have the magic of those family holidays , even less so now that I am alone.
  18. Yes, good sailing to all entrants. I think the winds may be on the light side however.

I also posted elsewhere, where Gary of Cantley has replied that it is now limited to three hours.

    3rr Parking

I thought that I might go and watch the "Bun Fight" at Potter tomorrow. Naturally you must not park at the rear of Lathams but I think that I read that there were new restrictions on the big car park in front of Herbert Woods. Anyone know anything? Thanks, Chris
  21. That moth is a Cinnabar. They are sometimes confused with the seven types of Burnet. Actually they are not alike except that they are the same colour. I have a large Hebe in the garden, this morning there must have been a dozen Painted Ladies mixed with a couple of Tortoishells, not seen ant Painted Ladies for a couple of seasons.
  22. I would have thought MarineTec would come out and fit it for you. A couple of years ago I saw Tony one of their engineers doing an install at Cromer which is a lot further to travel than S. Walsham to Rockland if the ferry is used.
  23. What a superb maiden voyage as the new owners. I wish you many happy days afloat in her.
