  1. What a great day for a Carnival!
  2. And welcome! Remiss of me to not say that first.
  3. For a first trip I would go up river to somewhere like Salhouse. I only say that because if you have to hold station for a while in a bit of cross wind at Ludham Bridge it might be a bit of a test first time out, The Ant is also quite narrow. I would stick to the wide River Bure and really get the feel of how she handles.
  4. It too, I will add, was always our favourite way to Woodbastwick, but when the rivers are high you need wellies for the first half mile.
  5. However, it has never been a public footpath, it was always a permitted path at the discretion of the owners (Cators). Who I believe did in fact close it a few years ago. The whys and wherefores raged on within Broads Forums for ages when it was closed. I have just checked the old OS. And it is indeed orange, ie Permitted Not green ie. Public Footpath.
  6. The discussion in the pub, with a yacht sailing by, seen though the window was shot in the Ramsholt Arms:-
  7. They are there until October, but you must book. It is an easy run if you go via Reedham Ferry : Beccles and join the A12 Nr Blythburgh. You miss Yarmouth and Lowestoft or Oulton which are just a pain InTarse
  8. Yesterday I had a walk at Woodbridge, had lunch in Aldeburgh and then returned to the hotel for afternoon tea and dinner. Drove home this morning via Reedham ferry to miss the towns. Wallet suitably bashed!
  9. Next day I had booked to go to Sutton Hoo to see the combined exhibition of the Staffordshire Hoard and Sutton Hoo:- Then I went to Bawdsey, Ramsholt, and Shingle Street. Does anyone recognise the "Yesterday" film locations? :-
  10. Well, the last three actually. I have been wandering in Suffolk. My base was Seckford Hall Hotel, very comfortable with excellent cuisine. Stopped at Snape Maltings on the way for a snack lunch and a look at the Sculpture.
  11. Everyone aged 60 to 74 should be sent a Bowel Cancer Screening Kit every 2 years and starting last year it is being rolled out to those aged 50 to 59. I should have said everyone registered with a GP.
  12. Have you thought of the Netherlands? Friesland is very like The Broads but much larger and deeper. The advantages of Northern Holland are many, but I would put ease of access to the wonderful cruising in The Baltic and being able to cross and move about Holland, without lowering the mast, as most bridges are swing or lift at the top of the cruising yachtman's list. Google "Staande Mast Route, Holland" and you will get some first hand write-ups.

Any up to the minute re: Acle Bridge one. I want to go that way and over the ferry to miss out Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Sunday Lunch in Southwold.
  14. Onedrive spits out my photos each morning as " On this day" year by year. This was one of them this morning from 12 years ago. Prior to Fleet Dyke being vandalised by the removal of it's quay headings. A real loss to that very popular part of The Broads.

Dear, Dear, Mr Charles, Surely you had two weeks in Lowestoft, relaxing with your trotters in the air. Not five minutes ago!
  16. I would love to see it held again.
  17. It was really lovely when they held the festival of sail with it in 2018. It was a really super day. However badly attended as people wanted to sit indoors and watch England V Panama.
  18. There is boat hire at Caversham and Benson but I think Benson sold out to Le Boat. Not a recommendation as I have been away so many years.

It would be the time difference that could cause problems about an hour? St Olaves is about 1.5 after Yarmouth Yacht Station and Acle 2.5. There could be quite a strong tidal stream through the cut, Without a lock.
  20. Who was it? Dinah Wasinghton? What a difference s day makes! Today:- Tomorrow:-
