  1. Do you mean:- Good to see day boats with "Heads"
  2. Stayed at the Victoria a few times. Good base for exploring the area. Woken a few times there to a "Fret or Haar" there myself, not sure on the geography of the terms. My friend who sails the Forth always says "Haar"
  3. The Atlantic 85 of RNLI Yarmouth and Gorleston is capable of 35knots, about 40mph so is the option for Breydon and lower Bure, Yare and Waverney but it is the upper reaches where Hemsby's smaller craft excels.
  4. There seems to be ambiguity. Most volunteer Mountain Rescue have blue lights. But I notice a large proportion of their ATVs also sport the Ambulance logo.
  5. Mind you, those old 4WD ex forces Bedfords would be hard pushed to break any speed limits. By the time you were approaching 30mph you invariablely need to stand on the anchor because very early deployment was needed.
  6. The legislation needs urgently changing. Many, many years ago I drove an inland rescue ex army equipment 4 tonner. But was told traffic lights, speed limits etc were all to be obeyed. I don't think it had a siren though.
  7. I think they are in the correct order, but it is pretty self-explanatory. I always thought that rescue trucks, say for want of better Mountain Rescue could use blue lights and that it was only when exceeding speed limits ie Police, Ambulance, Coast Guard, Fire special training was required. I am sure there must be loads of trucks with blue lights who should not use them.
  8. The two fish and chip shops were lost for the foreseeable future on Southwold quay, Monday.
  9. Majorcan new potatoes are a good substitute to go with a nice Welsh leg of lamb and seem to be plentiful at the moment. But a substitute nothing compares to a newly dug Jersey. I am reminded that the butcher in Sudbury Town, where we rented a house when first married in 1971, would do us a leg of lamb for around £1.00, I expect my Coronation Dinner leg will be very close to £40.00.
  10. No it is "Bare boat" charter to be precise.
  11. Here is your answer to lack of moorings and these can come with a pump to hose off. Non permanent, revert to the norm in winter. As for finance, charge, like every other boating destination.
  12. Totally agree Robin! I only see two ways for The Broads, firstly the "Eco" way and secondly an up- market way, injecting "Style" into it as a destination, something that is and has always been missing. A mixture of both would be ideal. I am not trying to put down anyone's experience or views on this matter, but like me most regular subscribers here are getting on a bit! And like me you were brought up on a business model of " The all important Repeat business" . That is a dinosaur holiday business strategy. The folk out there in their 30s or 40s at the height of their earning power want the experience. Even if they have the best holiday ever they will not return for many years. Richardson know their market and how to stay on top and that is constant "New Business". To many of us it is not attractive but it is fact. Get rid of the mud and goose muck in the season and go up market, use the temp pontoon like they did at Horsey. Then come Oct 1st revert to nature. And push the Southern rivers a lot more!
  13. Never knew they existed Ray, cheers I will try some.
  14. Nowadays there is a tunnel. Don't think that many make the drive over the top. It is in places, actually a lot of places not for the faint hearted.
  15. My only claim to Mini fame was a Clubman. Judith and I drove it to Andalusia twice in 1972 and it was faultless. The only mod it had was an oil cooler as we often drove for hours on end and I rec. The extra pint of GTX ( a great leap in oil tech) would do it no harm. At Aix les Thermes hotel in the Pyrennes at the start of the climb up the Col de Puymorens. Snow at side of road in July. I was 23 then, 51 years ago!
  16. Land shoes and deck shoes and the changing between the two used to be commonplace when I was young. Along the South Coast at any rate, maybe we just got lazy, or modern waistlines make a simple task like changing shoes a chore.
  17. A little light reading on the subject. coastal-protection.pdfCoastal-Processes-Within-The-Plan-Area-Web-based-version.pdf
  18. It appears in excess of 10 million phones did not work including virtually all "3" customers.
