  1. I have been abroad just a few times, and i never enjoyed myself as much as i have on the broads.
  2. is that really an incentive to post, I wonder?
  3. Ah, that was good, just created a playlist and added all the videos an am currently watching the trip down on my tv, peaceful broads fix
  4. i will add to that my videos taken last may after the meet from my trip up that way excuse the sound but i had mounted the camera to the window frame and it was picking up the engine vibraton
  5. Andrew, I am not sure that we know for sure that Freedom is closing, he hasnt actually said that, all we really know is that he is selling some boats from one part of his business, times will be tough, and we may see more boatyards doing the same and reducing overheads, but until an official announcement is made we shouldnt assume anything.
  6. just found this charming video shot above wroxham broad including the death and glory.
  7. I see it slightly differently, true people will want cheaper holidays, but they will still want holidays as a break away. less will be able to afford foreign holidays, ( even if they do stop the 14 days quarantine following) and will look to home grown holidays. Some wont be able to afford a holiday but others will be looking to holidays in this country, i anticipate an increase in camping and caravanning holidays, and hope that extends to boating too.
  8. that was my read on it too, while they may work, they are not certified as fire fighting apparatus, i did find an explanation that said there was some sort of activation that produced a gas that was already in the atmosphere, sounds a little like carbon dioxide.
  9. MM i have a third possible location on your boat, the bonded stores locker.
  10. where is that @jayfire when you need him
  11. quite happy with the flavour from my non regulation size and shaped raspberries from the garden at the moment
  12. having just received an update from southwark council, regarding businesses that can open, they mention that hospitality services will have to wait until july 4th to open (along with hairdressers and nail bars and pubs) so some guidelines must be published about the types of services that will be re-opening on that date, (unless like many others that is their interpretation) but there must be something to make all of these companies and councils confident for that date.
  13. Then there is the other consideration, holiday from work, currently I have been informed that at least 40% of my holiday needs to be taken before the end of august, to avoid manpower shortages later in the year as everyone has holiday to use up before the end of the year. now multiply this around every business in the country, as everyone who has had holidays pushed back or delayed tries to use their holiday up in the last 6 months of the year. If the government delay too long in reinstating peoples ability to take holidays, then the impact upon companies when they do allow it will be large. So this must also be considered when bringing us back out of lockdown.
  14. I also note watching the video, the chap has to almost reach right into the fire to extinguish it, a lot closer than I would expect most people to want to get to a real fire (I have been a chief fire marshal at work, and seen how some people react when on training), most are very tentative about getting close to the fire, the chap in the video had his hands within inches of the flames at one point, so must have been very confident in the product to do so. Also I would have expected to see some form of acceptance for the product from one of the fire safety services, it appears not to have any form of certification such as fire extinguishers normally carry. (oh and moved to broads chat.)
  15. it looks wonderful, but (and its a big but) is it compliant with the BSS, would you still need the normal fire extinguishers on board because they are required for the BSS? I also wonder how it extinguishes the fire if it has no chemicals. Its certainly something for me to ask next time I do fire safety training at work.
  16. so do we wait a month, a year, 10 years, before we are allowed once more to use a cruiser as it should be, because this virus will be with us for a while yet. in the mean time what about the boat hire businesses.
  17. since you need to be logged into their site to see that, i cant possibly comment
  18. they are protesting because undue force was used on a person and he was harmed, yet they cannot see the irony while they lob bottles and bricks at police officers in an attempt to do them harm. they are complaining about the very thing they are perpetrating, while saying how wrong it is, that i find hypocritical.
  19. the boat i have booked out at the end of july is currently being offered out as a day boat, if they can organise the deep cleaning necessary for daily hire, then they should surely be able to clean between weekly hires, so i too am looking forward with hope.
  20. some more firlkling has been done, the mudweight surround has been mounted and the open sections of the cockpit where the steps are have been boxed in.the one for the front steps is just a cover plate as the motor is mounted underneath and access might be required.
  21. it can be done, but not easily, it means changing your unread posts options to just see posts you follow, and then you have to follow just the posts you want to see, i'm not quite sure how it sees brand new threads though, much better, read the post you want to leaving the ones you dont, then hit mark all as read
  22. as a moderator I dont have the luxury of being able to ignore people (there are a few that i might watch more closely though)
  23. have you ever seen the sitting in a field for 30 years, put a new battery on and clean fuel and it starts right up type of video? to be honest the engine is in exactly the same state as it would be after a few weeks of not being started, unless there is an underlying issue anyway like a leaky head gasket that has allowed water into the bore, there should not be an issue, If you are that bothered check the oil level before you start it and if low put some fresh in, this will go into the top end of the engine and percolate down. either that or before winter use one of those additives that coat the moving parts.
  24. as soon as my 5v usb boards arrive i will be able to build my own power banks
