  1. can they get an adoption centre near you to do the home visit on their behalf? we once had a new to us cat who escaped out of an almost closed window, he was wearing a collar when he escaped, and was spotted locally a few times, we did report him as lost, and were amazed 2 years later, when we were told he had been found, a lady had spent 6 months coaxing him to her, when she asked if she could keep him, we said yes, as we had only known him for about a week before he went awol, and we had rescued another 2 cats in the intervening years. we were just happy he had found a home where he was loved.
  2. when i was coming downstream earlier this year i did encounter a shallow section, i was a good 12 foot from the bank, and suddenly slowed, I got off again and carried on round the corner where there were yellow posts about 10 feet off the bank, so there are some shallow spots along that lower section.
  3. just wonderiing- what with the hoveton great broad debate over the fish barriers, is that another place where the fish would take refuge during a salt surge, if so this would be another reason against fish barriers at that location.
  4. I would surmise, that barriers cost a lot of money, as do the staff required to go round and shut them all and reopen them as necessary. I wonder if anyone knows how and when the barriers at Herbert Woods came about, and who did the work?
  5. salt will raise the boiling point slightly i believe
  6. thats not easy either, myself and a friend managed to burn spaghetti. (the pasta part and the bolognaise sauce)
  7. its a debatable point, but generally electric cars and busses use the lighter lithium ion chemistries, where Leo has a heavier, lower power density (and safer) Lithium Iron Phosphate, also you may have noticed the batteries have a bulkhead separating them from the engine room, it was just the inverters they were mounting in there. we will see how that goes down the line.
  8. Helen, I had spotted some water ingress on my previous trip, but it was mainly forming a puddle at one rib because there was no drain hole through there, I only managed to track it back to somewhere at the stern though, I had discussed it with Dave though.
  9. they told me that too, but i got there and back, its a bit shallow in places in the mill race at new mills, but otherwise was fine, you can see the bottom (and the weeds)
  10. Leo (of Tally Ho fame) has released his latest video, in which he explains the batteries he is using and the electrical installation that is being done (by a fully qualified marine electrician) (for those who may be interested in the safety of different lithium battery chemistries.)
  11. apparently this surge even got as far as the south end of hickling broad
  12. it may just be the really heavy rain we have had recently, my conservatory is fine until a really heavy downpour, then it seems to get in, but then it was 3" deep in the garden by the end of the downpour.
  13. just one question, are the invasive species of crayfish and mussels as vulnerable to salt surge as all the other water species?
  14. you could always raise it (in a generalised way, without discussion of specific boats or identifiable pictures), in the speakers corner section- which was set up with tighter restrictions for this very purpose, where rules of debate stand and personal comments can be removed. but remember untolled boats are the Broads Authorities remit, so they should really be reported to them.
  15. thats easy, dont look at the boat in the background
  16. actually, when you read back the thread, the original poster edited the picture because of this comment, all the moderators did was replace the picture in the original post with the edited one, I dont believe we actually needed to ask the OP to do the edit, sometimes it seems the forum is self moderating. (for which the moderator team are quite grateful- we actually dont like having to step in)
  17. I logged in and intervened, gave it a good kicking into submission and hopefully its now behaving itself
  18. my apologies for not making it tonight, I had team building in london (crystal maze- yes my team won - by 1 point, we got 14 out of 16 crystals) anyway I left london centre at 6.30pm, hoping to get back, but a signal failure at Barking tacked 30 minutes onto the 1 hour tube journey, so it was gone 8pm before I got to the car, then just over an hours journey so it was 9.45 before I was indoors and got to the computer.
  19. it must be noted that the site owner can set rules that he wishes, we will be bound by the potential legislation, but not limited by it, we are at liberty to set higher standards, that all agreed to when they joined (and i recall last time something was added everyone had to click to say they agreed.) so its all very well quoting from the online safety bill, but the standards we work to are set out in the guidelines (link in the banner at the top) and that the majority of those guidelines have been in place a long time, as i mentioned before, some were slightly reworded to bring us into compliance with the proposed legislation, but essentially they are as they have always been. so while you may be having difficulty with what the online safety bill says, that is probably because we are working to what the guidelines state, to the best of our ability and as a team with due discussion over interpretation, which is done on a case by case manner.
  20. I think that the privacy protection has come about in a way from the behaviour of people on facebook and other social media sites, by allowing them to behave as they wish no matter who they hurt, those platforms have brought about the government actions out of a necessity. our thanks really must go to Timbo, who as chairman kept abreast of the developments and papers that went into this bill, and set us the targets of being compliant with them before they even went to parliament, giving us a clear head start over other platforms, the terms and conditions were inspected and in some cases reworded or sections added to put the compliance in place.
  21. well, considering my post was regarding gas heaters, they dont have a diesel exhaust
  22. after some of the reports following carbon monoxide poisonings, where vents were blocked because of draughts, i believe so, this is why all hire craft have notices over certain windows saying not to block them. this is why some yards are headed towards gas free boats i guess.
  23. ouch, looks like they did a titanic on that submerged concrete edge they ran into
