  1. Thanks all, I was hoping to spend less that £6000 a year so it's sounding feasible so far.
  2. I'm thinking a two berth, back steerer, no bigger than 27ft.
  3. Apologies if this question has been asked on another thread (the search feature revealed nothing). I am seriously considering buying a small boat. The initial outlay is not a concern but how much would I be looking at spending in annual fees? I realise this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question so any ball park figures would be appreciated. Any actual figures from existing boat owners would be even better. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi Alan, not at all......my tablet must be super sensitive
  5. HA, I live in Grimsby, my dad went to Wintringham (he was born in 1946). My son plays football at what is now Oasis Academy - Wintringham
  6. Oh dear, I appeared to have posted it twice!!
  7. A big high five to whoever decided to have a 'like' button on this forum. Quite often I read a post that makes me smile or laugh but don't necessarily feel the need to add to the thread. The 'like' button is not only a solution to this but also lets you know if someone has liked something you've written.

    Wroxham Bridge

Hi all, thanks for all the advice, never thought about using the webcam....doh!!! Our back up will be mooring outside Hotel Wroxham so I guess we'll just have to see.
  9. Mooring fees don't really bother me (especially if the mooring maintenance is the responsibility of the pub), but I think some of it should be refunded if eating there. I wasn't overly impressed with The Ferry last time I went, cant remember if we paid to moor or not.
  10. Morning all, What are the water levels like at the minute, particularly in the Wroxham area. We'll be on the water at the end of October and would like to visit Coltishall. Beautiful stretch of river that we've not cruised since 2009. We are on Ibiza which has an air draft of 6ft 10in. Thanks in advance.
  11. My apologies HA. I made my post after reading a post on the first page of this thread and didn't read all of the replies. oops, must pay attention :-(
  12. Thanks everyone. Ranworth is one of my favourite spots so I'll take my chances. I'll be there Friday October 24th so I may even get moored at the staithe.
  13. If I lived in Norwich I'd certainly be happier
  14. Hello all, We are planning on mooring at Ranworth Staithe for the first night of our weekend afloat. Not been to The Maltsters for a few years. What's the food like? I've looked on trip advisor and it received mixed reviews so I figured I'd ask on here. Thanks in advance
  15. I also am a member of NBN and NBF, I joined this one as I figured two forums are better than one. And like Paladin I browse each forum and contribute as and when it suits me. If people have joined this forum because of issues with NBF (or any other forums) then so be it. I hope NBF doesn't lose too many members as It's a great forum and provides a lot of people with entertainment and valuable information (as does this one). Happy reading everyone, whichever forum you visit!!
  16. I remember the handbook well. When it arrived on your doorstep it was the countdown to the beginning of your holiday. My dad used to test us on the rules of the river, it all added to the excitement. The earlier ones included a log book. I've still got these, the oldest being 33 years old! (Apologies for going off topic a little).

    Bolero

I've hired Bolero next August, mainly because of the competitive price compared with similar craft. We are going to take some fold up chairs for the sun deck (tempting fate with the weather). I believe Brinks Melody has wooden outdoor furniture but as has already been said is a lot dearer!

    Todays Picture

Nothing particularly spectacular about this except for the river level. We spent 4hrs at The Berney Arms waiting to pass under the Yarmouth bridges, we got turned round on Breydon by the BA. It was October 2009, note the lack of quay!!!
  19. Very interesting this, I can see both sides of the discussion. I personally have never been daunted by GY and Breydon but fully understand it if others are. My advice would be to just cruise right through and avoid mooring. It's the mooring up at places like GY, St Olaves, Berney Arms etc that can be very tricky. I think it's important that newcomers are aware of the potential dangers but we don't want to put people off crossing from north to south or vice versa.
  20. Excellent videos, I've just watched this one. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0_5XKkHlfTg I'm on The Broads next month, this has given me the fix I needed!
  21. Alan, your office sounds a bit grim, thank goodness for Norfolk Broads forums and webcams!!!!!
  22. I've thought of a way Richardson's could improve. They could show boat dimensions on their website. Length, width, beam and headroom etc etc. This info comes in very handy in my opinion. just a small thing, but this info always used to be available.
  23. My brother and his family, a friend and his wife, and another friend and his wife have all been on the water within the last few weeks. I managed to spot them all at some point using the webcams. It's my way of 'being there' if you know what I mean. I'm not a stalker, honest!!
  24. Good to see one of the most popular yards doing so well
  25. My first time was 1976, the year I was born. My first broads memory was 1981. There were 9 of us on Star Wonder and other family members on Trail Dorchester and Lady Lidell (I probably have those names wrong). I remember the boats being beached at Salhouse and getting hours of fun from swinging on a rope hanging from a tree! It's the biggest attraction of The Broads for me, the simplicity of it all.
