  1. Vaughan. Cant remember saying there was anything wrong with it.
  2. the Volvo system use ds units for gear, but a 'lost motion' link with two throttle cables on each engine.......... ' lost motion' I think is possibly something to do with activity or lack of it between control lever and gearbox ?
  3. Researching my Morse control system online I keep seeing the phrase ' lost motion' . Does anyone know what this means in the context of control systems ? Thanks
  4. I thought we have been told there is less chance of catching the virus out in the fresh air, why on earth would you want to be cooped up in a greenhouse or pod breathing in stale air ? expelled air infected or otherwise will stick to the glass as condensation for a period of time, the thought of drinking or worse, eating in such conditions is not for me.
  5. Most problems occur when over use of the throttle is applied. The best piece of advice I ever had when coming in to moor was " Neutral is your best friend "
  6. I think you can safely consider yourself a specialist, Ive been following this for months (or is it years ) I am in awe of your skills, the model nearing completion now looks magnificent. Can I ask what you will do with the model when completed ?
  7. Good morning, I do apologise for giving my opinion and stiring up such passion on here I didn't mean to upset anyone. I also didn't see it as political, I saw it as my opinion on the handling of Corona Virus ( the name in this thread ). It would be a boring forum if we all agreed wouldn't it ? surely the whole idea of a forum is debate, opinion & banter ? Anyway I sincerely apologise to anyone offended. Just for the record I am a lifelong Conservative voter, that doesn't mean I've changed my opinion that they have dealt with this crisis appallingly.
  8. Anyone who masters Kitchin gear can call himself a helmsman ! had experience of them in the RN they could turn a grown man into a jibbering wreck !
  9. The highest death toll in Europe still rising, slowest to react to the pandemic, little or no PPE in place, ministers and advisors disregarding their own advice, contradicting and confusing daily press conferences, and that's a good job ? Its a good job Piers Morgan isn't on this forum !
  10. It can be argued that "following the science " is why the UK is three weeks behind most countries in terms of recovery. It has been a convenient excuse for this inept governments handling of the pandemic. You are right Ray in that there are scientists not happy with the easing of lockdown, but I suspect there are many more who have given approval or it would not be happening , as we have been told many many times the government follow scientific advice
  11. I absolutely agree that the decisions and choices we make in life effect the quality of life we live, but, ultimately ................ PS I hope you live as long as you want to, and you're in heaven half an hour before the Devil knows you're dead.
  12. I did say it was my opinion for what its worth. Stay Safe
  13. This has been a very interesting thread with varied opinions, my opinion for what its worth is that life is mapped out for you from the day you are born, if you have a full fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are wealthier than 75% of the worlds population. we are very lucky to have been given a ticket that has not expired yet, but it will, and when your God says its time, you're going. You can approach your gate latches wearing welders mask and gloves if you want..........
  14. I am not suggesting the government makes a rule for me, I am merely suggesting that at some point " common sense ' has to come into play.
  15. Only for some unfortunately, I live 200 miles from my boat, I could visit, work all day on it, then drive home, tired and a danger to myself and other road users, but apparently this is safer than me stopping overnight on my boat on my own !
  16. I wasn't going to re oil with D1, I thought I could apply D2 over the already oiled wood ?
  17. Thank you Just googled this, it is a two step process, D1 being the oil & D2 is the gloss varnish. As the wood is already well oiled, I am assuming I could just use the D2 varnish ?
  18. I have a wooden rubbing strake which I sanded down and coated with Linseed oil. Can this now be varnished, will the oil have dried sufficiently to take varnish ? or is it either oil or varnish ? I would prefer more of a gloss/sheen than the oil gives it. Thanks
  19. Brokewind ? ........... sorry, should have gone to Specsavers
  20. I've used Soltron since you recommended it a few years ago, can't help thinking you have shares in this company ? confident tanks are clean, fuel filters changed and checked regularly. Appears to be two schools of thought here, both with merits, the boat came over from France recently with this configuration without issues so for my occasional coast hop and pottering around the broads I think I will leave as is.. Thanks for all opinions, I appreciate.
