  1. First picture is around 1966/1967 I had forgotten about that old mud weight. Quite often if out especially at Barton Regatta I borrowed one of my brother's mudweights off his sailing yacht!
  2. Okay the story of the masts! Originally WR had the single pennant holder which amazingly I found one day in a locker. Early on in father's ownership, he decided he wanted navigation lights and asked Herbert Woods (I assume) to make mark I which is the one that Grendel found. It had a wooden fitting on the cabin roof. These photos were taken before 1970. At some point in the 1970 I made WR a set of code flags and it was probably around then that father made a much taller mast with a small mast which sat on the rear cabin roof. I suspect these were fitted so that the flags would not get tangled up with the cabin roof? It was a pretty ugly contraption! I don't have a photo of her with the later mast. Plenty in the house at Horning though. When I took on custodianship, I think the second mast went in a skip but the original I retained but soon found out that it was falling apart. So some repairs took place - in addition I think when she had a new cabin roof the old mast fitting was removed. My brother quickly made up something from that white plastic. The problem was that it only need a slight breeze and it fell over - so I rarely used it. Usually when on guard ship to fly the guard ship flag and very occasionally when moving WR in the dark but then it would often just sit on the deck. When it was out on hire, the mast didn't even go on the boat at all. Since it wasn't an original fitting, I didn't always want it being used.
  3. You have to make sure the point of interest is off centre otherwise it's on a fold!
  4. I've got one with WR on it and brother has one with his sailing cruiser. Great aren't they!
  5. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Narrowboat_Kingfisher_moored_on_the_river_Stort_in_Roydon_(2).jpg I found this link which discusses the wooden superstructure but also read in a discussion forum dated 2007, the hull is also wood. Fascinating boat even if it wasn't built for the broads
  6. I went over the Stort this morning, couldn't stop but enough time to see it was uncovered and called Kingfisher with London added
  7. I just love seeing WR out and about and in good hands 🙂
  8. They nectar on pink flowers so were probably attracted to your red tee shirt
  9. I'm not sure if the yard would want to be named for having a boat with an infestation of wood eating beetles though!
  10. Going up to Coltishall on low revs won't help either
  11. Stick with Beardshaws - in a previous life I worked for them
  12. Thanks for checking - yes if you hear of anyone replacing their cover put a word in please. I know about mice (and rats), I thought I had a spare jib a few years ago........except it had some extra holes!
  13. Thanks Clive if you do have something that would be great! My boat is currently in bits at the moment as the work is in hand!!
  14. Does anyone have a second hand light weight White Boat cover (Yare & Bure One Design) that is surplus to requirements. I am looking for one that will cover the toe rails and deck, not just the coaming! To tied me over until I can afford a brand new one. Toes rails are being replaced on Chalkhill Blue and I need to make sure they are properly covered in future! Price to be agreed if one can be found!
  15. Copied from HSC FB page. 16. I was about to answer one of your other threads but saw this. I'm back in Horning for 4 nights the first time in 18 months. What is so noticeable is how VERY busy the north rivers are. I'm used to sailing between cruisers but watching Horning with a big sailing race ongoing was different. My photos show how busy it is. 2021 is not what the Broads would normally be like to be honest even at the usual peak times. Covid has altered a lot of things this year Last night the New Inn was packed and there were so many boats arriving hoping to find a non-existent mooring in Horning! Out of season is popular because it is generally cheaper and should be less crowded but you can't guarantee the weather anywhere in the UK at any time. If unfortunately the weather is unkind a boating holiday can be brutal even for the most hardy. Don't be put off, remember the best bits and your confidence will grow. As to drinking there was a newspaper article that said that the sailing fraternity would make a Saturday night in Newcastle look tame! With the Broads being so busy boats were probably erring of making sure if they couldn't more at a pub it wouldn't matter?
  17. After the punt finished, the next boat was 8 hours later Needless to say my galley shift 7-10 was a tad busy and I finished at 1.30!
  18. Three boats are home, a Rater 15 at 22:29, then cruiser Moonraker and a punt........
  19. Yes I remember her originally as Jocelyn 1 as she was slightly similar in design
  20. Janet Anne is looking after Jacqueline as well. I think they(Martham) redesigned the canopy to folding?
  21. We were happy with 6' 3" it's the canopy that's the problem! Marthams canopies are different, folding down neatly
  22. Lovely to see you posting ♥️
  23. It was their nickname in my youth - I assume it has stuck even if untrue!
