    Commerical Use?

Any ship where the name ended in ITY was an Everard ship - there is one by the power station photo. We always knew this because my father used to get trips on them. Think it was a connection with his father who was the Editor of Ship Building and Shipping Record many moons ago that got him the jaunts!

    Commerical Use?

Here's my contribution from the 1960s - all been posted before You could hear a coaster coming long before you saw it. Then the water would start to be sucked out the dyke where you were moored - eg Rockland or Brundall Dyke. I would try to run to the end of the dyke to see it pass! There are still a few signs saying don't moor on bends along the Yare (or were the last time I went south!) Liz
  3. It's actually a serious problem on many waterways, I suspect slow moving ones more so!
  4. CC beat me to it! The holiday bungalow at Horning was a joy to see during Horning Week. Alive with multi generation family members just having an amazing time! From the 1970s to the modern time.
  5. Avoid paracetamol as a pain killer as it will also mask a temperature spike. Daughter isn't allowed to take them but her pain killers are a bit more exotic at the moment!! (Chemo related infection)
  6. Or vice versa - someone going to a higher rate infection area for a holiday and bringing it back! Analysis shows different strains across the county so its important to avoid moving them around!
  7. My daughter's temperature spiked last night so she was taken back into the actual hospital (rather than the 'Cotton Rooms' which is a sort of B&B connected to UCH. The discomfort connected to an infection had already started but they won't put her on anti-biotics until the temperature rises as it did. Unfortunately the haematology ward was full so she got taken back down to A & E and then onto another ward - not satisfactory but she is now connected to antibiotics so don't take any chances - the hospitals are busy so you need to be one step ahead!
  8. Are you taking your temperature regularly? An infection will probably show a temperature spike?
  9. My daughter who is only 33 has one because of her leukaemia. When the Macmillan nurse said she should get one I thought surely not. It really helps with access to carparking at the London Hospitals which are blue badge only - the alternative is walk half a mile!
  10. Good stopping point for Breydon and good walks! Walked there from near Reedham with a group of walkers and Polkeys was opened especially and the sails were turning and water pumping! Fascinating!
  11. Thanks its obvious in daylight on the computer - looked like a frozen channel on my phone not a frozen boardwalk
  12. Every Christmas, work give us a turkey. One of my colleagues lives away and returns every two weeks so I look after his turkey in the freezer. A few weeks later he said he would take it home and have it the next day. Aware it wouldn't defrost in time, we left it out overnight. In the morning, it was wedged up again the cooker hob with a large chunk of its backside, including plastic bag missing..................I rang my colleague and said 'we have a problem' - luckily he saw the funny side, and we sliced off the offending end and he took it home with him later that day. One of the family commented that they heard the cooker hob error message beeping in the night!
  13. Where's the bottom left photo taken?
  14. Similar FB post from Eastwood Whelpton Sailing Holidays posted on Sunday. A quick note for our storage and repair customers. You will have seen the latest announcement from the Govt that they intend (subject to Parliamentary approval!) to put us into lockdown from Thursday 5th November. Just to reassure you we intend to carry on working and will continue to respect the COVID rules we have put in place at the yard, but clearly we will not be able to accept visitors from Thursday. As with the first lockdown, we will be able to operate a collection or delivery service for your boat if it is coming to us for storage or repair for the winter. Please do not drop your boat in the yard this week in advance of the lockdown without prior agreement as we need enough room to be able to lift the boats already with us. Easiest communication would be through email as ***** is still away with family and so the office is not manned full time info@eastwood-whelpton.co.uk but call and leave a message if you prefer. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I believe a lot boats lift outs have been brought forward to tomorrow - including my brother's thankfully. My white boat never went in................
  15. Have you found anything - just seen on FB this post............... Mooring for rent potter higham 46ft x 14ft wifi, electric, water, toilets and showers, shops 2 min walk away, bus stop outside marina to Norwich and Yarmouth £52 pr ft min charge, Message me if interestd Maybe Jay knows more?
  16. Quite! Hence why opticians were seeing people with these conditions. Initially at lockdown it was emergencies including broken spectacles, the next level was being able to see people such as your Ma in law or diabetics or patients with other eye conditions and now anyone can request an eye examination. As of Thursday who knows! There was a figure quoted in the papers some weeks ago of how many people that had gone blind as a result of Covid because they didn't seek help!
  17. My daughter working in an opticians in Wales has carried on as normal so you might not have to go to Barnard Castle! I've only just gone back to work in our local opticians but all the safety protocols are now in place (unlike in March) - I suspect at least emergency and monitoring eye conditions will continue and I wouldn't be surprised if your eye examination goes ahead? Barnard Castle wouldn't have the capacity to cope with the influx of people so that might be why opticians can continue operating! I will probably find out on Monday but haven't heard anything since the announcement from the bosses! Liz
  18. A friend's nephew was due to get married in May so they cancelled that, then they rearranged it for December to include just close family. Then the numbers allowed got lowered so they decided to rearrange again for a minute affair in NOVEMBER! You can't make it up! I know my brother will be 100% stressed over getting his wooden sailing cruiser out of the water before the winter weather really kicks in and I am not in any position able to help so it is a worry for me. At least he doesn't take it from Horning to Catfield (through Potter) any longer just the short trip to Ludham Bridge.
  19. Although de-winterising a boat was not considered essential travel, I would like to think winterising a boat/taking a boat out of the water would be classed as requiring essential travel!
  20. Blue Badge does help when you are feeling under the weather - we had to apply for one for our daughter. Don't always use it but it really helps getting into London and parking near the hospitals and congestion charge! Not a time for using public transport! Pictures of cats please
  21. My daughter would agree with you. Her tip is to change religion every day! She's at UCH or will be in week or so when an infection kicks in!
  22. I knew it would, I had seen the forecast!!!
  23. Red sky in the morning......
