  1. Peter - Are your woods Blean Woods if so the butterflies are pretty famous!
  2. My walking is concentrated on 2 days out of 7 topped up with 2 days walking to walk! Daughter 2 who was the one with leukemia is walking every day now after work as well as building up her running. It can be done although it had to be done slowly!
  3. Keep up the exercise! Last summer and during lockdown 1, I started walking my local footpaths recording butterflies and I was quite impressed that I probably walked nearly 600 miles up to October!!! Early winter wasn't so easy but kindly my daughter 2 gave me a Garmin watch and the results so far are: January 89 miles February 80 miles March with one day left: 138 miles!!!! What am I doing, well now I am recording butterflies but also taking photos of churches, landscapes and yes letter boxes!!!!!
  4. I assume once the line closed (early 1960s) it was easier to bypass it - the height under the bridge is pretty limited! I found a link years ago to the 'swing bridge' in Herbert Woods yard by the sheds but can't find it now!
  5. Now maybe but not before the bypass was built Also the footbridges into and in Woods yard at Potter
  6. Geldeston old railway bridge. Never been under just around it. Otherwise I've been under all bridges even beyond Lake Lothing in a dinghy with outboard. Saying that never been under Haven Bridge just over!
  7. It was being sailed at Barton in ?2019
  8. This under the tarpaulin isn't a Broads boat but looks intriguing? Could it be wood? Seen yesterday on the River Stort navigation by the road bridge in Roydon
  9. Walked along the River Lea today between Rye House and Stanstead Abbotts. One presumed ex Broads cruiser moored by the bridge at Rye House, couldn't see any old numbering. At the Stanstead Marina, positively heaving with ex Broads cruisers. One was call Bahama Major 1 F44-8 I think it read Another probable Caribbean called Caribbean Adventure, also on the bank at least one other plus another Broads cruiser. All fairly distant - there was a very smart cruiser - not Broads but rather nice! The yard was very busy and full!
  10. We watched it two weeks ago and I was intrigued by the Piggotts as my father always mentioned someone called Piggott as a school colleague and involved with excavations at Butser Hill in Hampshire. On checking google, yes the husband was at the same school and born in the same year and involved with Butser. My father never mentioned knowing he was involved with Sutton Hoo!
  11. I love it how they commented that the River Ant was boring! Also see they mention Vaughan's father! A fascinating piece of history
  12. You could always offer your assistance as a trainee guard ship. Suspect some of the usual guard ship crews might have to drop out this year if it manages to go ahead?
  13. Our local surgery in Ware is really rolling out the vaccines. On Tuesday, my daughter got a text to say her 'group' could book an appointment and was no. 25 when she called and had an appointment on Wednesday, as did the 70-75 age group. Yesterday my husband got his text (65-70) and had his jab today! Both had the Astra Zeneca jab. 2nd jab dates were not given. My daughter wasn't too bad yesterday apart from aching until the evening when her temperature spiked. The paracetamol had worn off. My husband is waiting for his reaction..................
  14. The Chinese in Horning has been advertising throughout the winter on a Horning Community FB page. Not sure whether that included delivery inthe winter months but assume once a season starts they would be?
  15. I wonder if it a church say on the one of Suffolk rivers - as a suggestion St. Botolphs at Iken on the River Alde I'm not saying it is that church but its the right shape!!!! (ish)
  16. It was shut last Monday according to reports
  17. Just found Station Cottages on google streetview so that theory gone!
  18. Just realised I didn't attach the map - I found another one from around the same time which shows a bit more details (1884). It crossed my mind that they might have been railwaymen's cottages. I found some census records which gave the addresses of 5 or 6 cottages but not the location. I think the signal posts are in about the right position?
  19. There is a rectangular shape just beyond the railway line on the upside down map which would indicate a building but what - who knows! No footpaths leading to it either as I assume the signal man, walked to the bridge from the station. Unless it was something to do with the construction of the bridge and then taken down? The modern satellite image shows there could have been something there. What we don't know from the image is whether this is the old or new swing bridge and if the old one, the track may have been realigned like it was at Aldeby

  21. Sorry I struggle with your suggestion because although the railway is in the distance, there are no buildings or trees on the far left of the view (viewing picture 1 before reversal). After posting I did see that it was probably the station cottage rather than the station that was visible. I love the mountains in the background - amazing angle Liz
  22. I've turned an old map of Somerleyton and I still think it is Somerleyton. The station building is just to the edge of the trees and there is something marked beyond the bridge whereas the signal box would have been right up by the bridge. The tree line is quite close and relatively close to the marsh. Both Reedham and Haddiscoe the trees were / are on the ridge (I think). There are two cuts marked as well? Some years back JM posted some old photos of Somerleyton but I can't find them.
  23. I was just going to suggest Somerleyton because of the trees and long run up. Just the buildings confused me? An old map should confirm if there were any?
