  1. Thanks for sharing this I had no idea this was happening. Could be a bit of a faff if hiring a car abroad on the spur of the moment as you would need online access to get the share code ..... but then I guess the hire company would give you access to a computer.
  2. Hi Gracie .......... I followed your instructions ............ looked long and hard ............... but couldn't find any of your jokes You are but I you!!
  3. Just to clarify:- I have no medical or first aid qualifications. That is why I posted the link without comment so that others could read and digest. It certainly was not my intention to be confrontational or mischievious and had no desire to cause individuals to be grumpy. I really didn't expect this particular post to be contentious. I confess that after Dajen's first post I felt a little concerned, I worried that the advice offered was incorrect. In Dajens later reply he posted a link to the NHS's very worthy campaign which, to my untrained eye, appeared to confirm that the advice offered was correct. Campaigns on social media do follow the principles of chain letter campaigns. They are very successful in getting a message out very quickly to millions, worldwide. I see nothing wrong with that particularly when carrying an important health message. But as Littlesprite commented the fact that this topic has been debated has helped to strengthen the message so I thank all for your contributions.

  5. I didn't know you told jokes Gracie ..... I'll keep an eye out for them.
  6. I've never met the queen. I've never seen the queen. I've never invited the queen to tea despite her being a near neighbour. I find it difficult to trust people who wears gloves. Sadly I also never saw Queen. Now this I do regret!
  7. I have quite enjoyed the stuff he's done recently particularly the Idiot Abroad with Karl Pilkington.
  8. Yep .... our traditions are a magnate for overseas tourists. So for all the doubters ...... it earns lots of bucks ...... long may they continue.
  9. I think kids & boats mix providing they, like the crew, understand the absolute authority of the skipper. "Do this now!!" might well mean do this now or get injured. The problem arises when other peoples kids are on board who are not aware that a boat (especially a sailboat) can be a dangerous place. I would always give them a warning before setting off, that if I tell them to do something it is not open to debate and if they don't comply they will find themselves unceremoniosly dumped below decks. Unsurprisingly I found myself increasingly in that wonderous solo sailing world!! OMG ..... may be i'm miserable git.
  10. The rules of the road dictate you only doff your cap to people driving the same or better quality vehicles than yourself. Those with inferior vehicles a to be "just" tolerated and never acknowled..

    MOB

I regularly used to take my kids sailing. I taught and regularly practiced MOB exercices .... well fender overboard & retrieval. The one thing I drilled into them was NEVER to try to rescue me by jumping into the river. Carry out the practiced routines but if that failed seek help from a passer by. Sadly no mobile phones in those days.

I do feel that our over protective attitude to children can lead to a certain lack of common sense and inability to assess the likelyhood of personal danger. As a kid I was free to play, wander, cycle for miles exploring all sorts of places which would be deemed dangerous today. Yes kids got hurt but that's part of learning life skills. I'm afraid today people always want to find somebody else to blame when things go wrong and ignore the bleeding obvious ...... they've been a complete numpty!!
  16. When receiving a tongue lashing from an irate skipper (usually sitting under bed sheets) I like to respond with an enthusiastic wave ...... needless to say my arm positively aches on occassions. ..... Glad i'm not the queen!!
  17. If memory serves the "Barsham Fair" started our life in the grounds of Roos Hall Beccles before moving to Barsham which provided a more atmospheric setting.
  18. met a man feeding a crow .... I guess he's a crow magnet

  21. I believe auto update of windows os is advised to ensure that you are protected from prying eyes & mischeivious fingers. The updates block holes in the security thingies, My windows 7 has, touch wood, been Ok for the last three years although you do have to put up with lenghy log offs whilst the latest updates are applied. The only issues I have has have been with Maccaffee security which often seemed to get in a muddle and switched off certain scans. So I have dumpud maccaccaffee and installed Kasperersky .... cos it's free with my online banking.
  22. Toby ponders ....... "What does a guy have to do to get his tummy rubbed?"
  23. JennyMorgan How times change. You could jump into your motor (no seat belts or MOT) Drive to pub. Drink what ever took you fancy whilst the ash tray filled up with mountains of butt ends. Be enveloped in clouds of misty smoke ..... is that a cigar I smell? Ahh the smell of Christmas. At the end of the night stagger back to the motor and set off for home. The only niggling doubt ..... can I walk along the white line without falling off.
  24. I understand that this is a two sided spat and that a rather heated post has been deleted however I really don't understand why people choose to have a go at each other in public. Makes for uncomfortable viewing IMHO.
