  1. I wonder if you can get one with a sail? Now that would be something else ...... lovely crinkly skin
  2. Also, please don't be offended if your kind offer to take a rope is refused .... a competent crew will be reluctant to hand over control to a stranger .... particularly in tricky tide/wind conditions.
  3. Whilst I concur with the sentiment above I really can't condone this sort of moral blackmail.
  4. Thanks Robin for posting this ..... it helps us all to think "what would I have done" in comfort. Many on here, including me, are mechanical numpties so for me the priorites are (for the broads):- Turn off gas to negate the chance of explosion. Get every body in life jackets and ready to get off the boat as quickly as possible. head for the nearest accessible bank away from other boats if possible. Turn off engine and get off the boat. Only investigate if you are sure the chance of fire has receded, The boat is the least priority ...... it is only a thing ...... it can be replaced. Of course if this happened at sea it is a completely different and potentially dangerous situation in that case you would hopefully have a well thought out plan in place remembering that "abandon ship" is the last resort.
  5. David, thank you for clarifying the situation. I hope you manage to negotiate an acceptable solution as I find the community to be a wonderful example of how things used to be done here. I would love to be part of that community but feel the current uncertainties re: lease would lesson my enthusiasm, however a waterside bolt hole close to the coast is a mouthwatering carrot.
  6. I might be wrong but I think a lot of the bungalows around there are Leasehold ...... looking at the details of those available the lease seems to be quite short. I don't know who owns the freehold but a leasehold property with a short lease devalues quite quickly. I don't know whether the lease can be extended or what it might cost?

IMHO The rights and wrongs of who did what and when and why is not really a suitable topic for this platform. I understand the relevant authorities were informed (this is the correct action) so I feel it serves no good purpose to post this footage here, it merely encourages a trial by forum debate. I hope this forum will avoid the name & shame culture, directed at perceived wrong dooers, encouraged by the proliferation of digital cameras. It is an invasion of privacy and often the footage/image does not fairly represent the whole story. Our lives are already recorded by many "spy" cameras without having to watch out for the curtain twitchers,
  8. Feeling a bit windy today

  9. It would probably be attached to a boat tho ..... I believe he sells them ..... but keeps it very quiet!!
  10. Just think of the extras you would have to buy ..... Straw boater stripey blazer white plimsoles and for night attire sleeping cap night shirt wee willy winky candle Yep I think that would suit me just fine. £110k ..... pocket money for some
  11. By law 1 Common sense. Always run your engine when moored ..... it's the best way to get to know your neighbours they'll be very keen to run over and have chat. Always play your music loud ........ spread the word and share your favorite band with your neighbours ..... they'll grow to love you. If your on a all male/female trip .... party late .... your neighbours are likely sick to death of the boring bl**dy reeds and the deafening silence. By Law 2 Consideration By abiding by by law 1 your fellow boaters will appreciate your considerate nature. You never know they might even take a lovely pic of your frivolities and post it on a forum.
  12. I find that not washing/showering when on holiday a welcome break from the norm. Usually towards the end of the fortnight the moorings tend to become much less crowded and often I am the only one there. Also the mozzies much less troublesome.
  13. Quite right, that's what insurance is for. Things can be replaced ..... not so people.
  14. So just to be clear ..... do you know anybody who sells boats?
  15. Yep ........ enjoy http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b05t7kc1/all-aboard-the-canal-trip
  16. I must say from watching the program I left with the impression that canal boating was like passing a long line of parked boats. But as you say this is probabably early season slumber. I had hoped that the program would be instructional ..... lock passing and bridge dodging. Particularly with a view of assessing the viability of single handed helming. This video was no good at all in this regard. Tim & Pru's adventures were much more informative.
  17. Wow ..... watched the entire 2 hour trip (not in fast forward) note to self ..... get a life!! Highlights: At 8:55 passing large sunken canal boat. Gentleman's launch passes 3 times ..... must be a friend of the producer. Sometime in the last hour passing a Broads bathtub. The ghosts from the past where quite well cut in. Can't wait for the sequel ..... perhaps videoing a fishing match.
  18. Every effort should be made to silence the halyards (ropes) when moored or should it be berthed? It really isn't that hard.
  19. Have you ever tried handling a sailing boat in poor conditions in confined waters? I note you says he didn't hit you .... so maybe his helmshipness should be applauded. He also correctly informed his crew as to his intentions. Of course I was not there so you may well be correct in your assertions however reading your account I see a different interpretation to yours.
  20. Blimey ..... the voice of reason from MM. Still makes sense to me.
  21. I remember my first capsize on Hickling ....... whilst swimming back to the boat, to right it, my foot touched bottom. Then realised I could stand easily and walk the boat back to land. Thereafter I chose to sail with large lumps of iron hanging off the bottom ...... it's amazing how gentle a grounding can feel when pushing into the mud, something that seemed for me to be a frequent occurence. All good practice though for wriggling back out of the mud.
  22. If a forum is criticed within it's own walls does it really matter ...... it's a thing ...... nothing more.
  23. Today is a good day to sleep .... ZZzzzzz

  24. Blimey ..... Gracie seems to get into some scrapes ...... our very own Forum Betty Boop!!
  25. I post here and I post there at the moment I am mostly posting here. Why ..... It currently feels welcoming, the mods seem to act in a reasonable manner and there is a reasonable turn over of topics & posts. I have no allegiance to any particular forum and will continue to browse and participate in several. To those that may feel reluctant to post I encourage you to give it a go. It doesn't matter (on here anyway) whether it's a load of old cobblers (I offer this humble example as exhibit 1). Who knows you might even collect a few "love" points on the way.
