  1. The difference between the public & private sector is private sector employees tend to have to perform for their money - or they get the axe. We can get stuck with people in the public sector for life who maybe don't perform or cost to much as if they are owed a job for life and the remainder of their existence paid for in luxury pensions from the public pocket. On a plate or what! Now do the BA perform or are they a performance........
  2. Nobody employed in the cash strapped public service sector should be paid such an amount, its obscene.
  3. If anybody has 750k going spare please please whatever you do do not give it to the Broads Authority. 30k in costs already.....not a significant sum of money the BA claim. Well if you have it to waste it must be pocket fluff.... Why oh why are there always “Consultancy” fees.... Maybe we could go a year without a Toll Increase.....reinstall some confidence instead of spraying 30k up the wall on a pipe dream...
  4. If they are really intent on going all in for this Broads Swimming lark then why stop at the Waveney. Coltishall to St Bennets would be a tremendous location on any weekend during the season....... It just wouldn't happen would it! Obviously the Broads Authority are in all support of this type of thing by linking it to the BA website so next time Im out on the river I will be donning my budgie smugglers and going for a dip, if I get Weils Disease or worse drown then we will know who to blame!
  5. Im sorry but I fail to see the comparison Pushing boats into the reeds to ensure safety of the swimmers only stands to prove the concerns that were raised about the event to begin with. In any case a precedence has now been set Before long any Tom Dick or Harry will think its their god given right to turn up and effectively close public moorings to facilitate a commercial event taking place and the Broads Authority will stand by with their fingers god knows where and do absolutely nothing as usual. I could not care less about swimmers being in the water, but if swimmers cant co exist with boats without public facilities being closed then I personally believe they radically need to rethink their choice of venue. This event relies on the river being quiet, I wonder what would happen next year if that wasn't the case and all the “public” moorings had boats parked on them.
  6. As far as I was aware and after double checking the Broads Swimming website swimmers could if they so wished make a donation to Waveney Stardust on top of their hefty entrance fee. If they so wished, cant quite remember but Im not sure thats what we were originally to believe was the case.
  7. I would be interested to know if any sailing vessels were met and how they managed to swim around one tacking, some of us find it daunting enough with an engine!
  8. That seems like the considerable disruption many of us predicted at the outset, from a group that pay nothing in. Its up the WRC who they let use their facilities but if I had been a paying site guest I may well have been miffed. I take more of an issue with use of BA moorings, the BA launch being present and the day boats used by the group hindering safe navigation of other boats. This is totally unacceptable and should certainly not be allowed to continue.
  9. Precisely... We will no doubt discover when the Toll goes up next year
  10. The Broads Authority couldn't see a reason to mention it then..... Egg & Face are two words that spring to my mind.
  11. A quick search on ebay using the term “bosch cooker switch” brought up plenty of knobs including some black ones if you scroll through the listings
  12. I would prefer the TMV option so it covers every outlet on the boat. It might even be easier than having to change the shower taps as it will probably all be hidden in the bilges or behind cupboards.
  13. I am firmly of the belief that a revenue generating profit making commercial enterprise is entitled to pay its top end staff at whatever level it sees fit. The fact that such luxury, exorbitant salaries are being copied into the public service industry, paid for by you and I is nothing short of obscene and is a practice that needs to be reigned in. Why have local Councils got no money? I know exactly where I would be looking for it. Lets also not forgot that only a few years ago these “cash strapped” local council’s collectively had over 14 Billion pounds in reserves, some of this may be earmarked money for agreed projects but still they plead poverty, make cost savings that end up affecting you and I but will still justify the obscene amount of money that is going out on wages for people that whatever way you look at it, shuffle papers and push pens. There is more money going into the system than there ever has been.....make it work in the right places its a very simple concept to get a grasp of.
  14. Its tenure is freehold, free information from land registry
  15. Cats....thats another issue altogether! I have just had to turf an area of my garden to stop next doors cats visiting it daily and leaving their deposits. Ordinarily I would just dispose of it myself. Its annoying but one of those things. The problem was getting to it before my dog did who then devoured it with relish as if its some sort of local delicacy. (disgusting little creature she is) Ive seen the cats heading to my other neighbours garden now so I think thats job done and my dogs breath is fresher. No joke a relative used to have a cat defecate on top of his car almost every day.....bold as brass. Animals just have no shame.
  16. If I were a council chief exec taking a 150k + salary and having to cut services I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Much of the countries shortfalls could easily be recouped from Government/Local Government top end wages that have just got well OTT in my opinion. We are not a Country short of money, we are a Country spending in ridiculous ways.
  17. Ive said before that I think the reason there is so much plastic in the sea is not just because it blows off seafronts and beaches but because its been dumped there on a commercial scale by unscrupulous countries and its probably been going on for years.....
  18. At least its in a hole....where nobody will ever go and if its remained inside the bag on its journey all the better. Does dog poo biodegrade in weeks? Theres piles of it on the verges round here that have been there months!! Along with our local so called country park....its everywhere. I used to enjoy walking round the field tracks behind Norwich Airport on the Runway approach.....now a no go zone due to the stick it (and not even bother to flick it society). I do not subscribe to this plastic-less society. There are inevitable consequences to our existence on this planet, yes we can minimise our uses of plastics but that aside we just have to be careful how we dispose of our waste. I would far sooner put dog mess in a plastic bag and in a bin tied up safely rather than leave it anywhere else for an unsuspecting person to end up getting covered in.
  19. Goose vs Dogs - Entirely my point when it comes to flicking it in the water.... The best option is to bag it and bin it, then when it reaches landfill its all in one place and in the meantime rather than having dog do flicked into the nearest bush....where anyone might one day go its more hygienic. Stick & Flick should not be being cited as a better option than chucking plastic bags full of crud all over the countryside because nobody should be doing this to start with. Fox poo and other wildlife accepted..... they are wild! If humans went about the place doing there business on the ground and flicking it in to the long grass where would we be? Why should dog mess be treated any differently. Again, if you don't want to buy dog poo bags your better off not being a dog owner. If I walked a big dog the same route every day and each time flicked its mess into the bushes....how long would it take before the place reeks.... This is just another daft practice being “recommended” by those that should know better.
  20. When walking in popular dog walking areas the pungent aroma of dog excrement on a warm day highlights why stick & flick is a very bad idea. Its just storing up a hidden mess that will probably have to be dealt with in the future, or maybe some exploring children will find it first....... The difference between the mess ducks swans geese and dogs leave is one is a bonafide meat eater and the others tend to be vegetarian. If i had seen this dog excrement being lobbed in the water, Id be saying something. If the practice was acceptable we wouldn't be fitting boats with holding tanks (most) would we. If people cant be bothered to responsibly dispose of the dogs mess, don't get the dog. Better in a plastic bag in land fill than a bush or the river.
  21. For some unknown reason its almost as if when arriving on a Norfolk Broads Holiday some people unfortunately seem to think they have entered a lawless area of the Country where they can carry on exactly as they like and not be held responsible for their actions.
  22. I visited Berlin a number of times as a child. We would stay in a caravan on RAF Gatow and then the Military Hotel Edinburgh House on Theodor Heuss Platz. I even spent a week staying in a youth hostel inside the Olympic Stadium. The dorms were in rooms under the upper level seating. Berlin is a fascinating city I must revisit at some point, I can still remember standing on the site of the old Spandau Prison after it had been demolished then going back a while later to see the new Britannia Centre having been built on the site.
