  1. Well today we head back to Norfolk..... Ok.. We tried and failed! Got up this morning to be informed the M62 was shut over the Pennines "Google" said head towards Hyde and across to Sheffield and cut out the M62 joining the A1 around Sheffield/Barnsley area So we set off at 7am, it was a bit breezy, but otherwise fine until we got on the A roads to cross the Pennines Informed Woodhead and Snake pass closed and then we came to a standstill as traffic chaos ensued! Trucks and cars everywhere struggling to move "Google" then said turn left and head over the Old Road... I need to stop listening to "Google" This was what the road looked like as we climbed So as soon as we got to a suitable turning area we spun round and started the journey back home A guy in a BMW 4x4 you can see in the picture had flown into Manchester from Saudi Arabia this morning and was trying to get home, but also turned round and will now look for a stop off point before trying to get home in Yorkshire Our Newfies Roxy and Yogi are very confused, but we are back home now and will give it another try on Monday Stay safe everyone
  2. Visited it many times on foot, by car and boat It is a nice area
  3. I know many will shoot me down in flames, but I really dont get the sentimental reasons for retaining a bridge designed to allow boats to pass underneath and people and vehicles to pass over the top, which no longer does the job it was built to do As such I would have no hesitation in its removal and a lovely modern one put in its place which actually does the job the original design was meant to solve Time to get behind the couch
  4. We have been in the Yare many times and we have always found it to have lots of trade and although a large pub, bookings are recommended if you wanted to eat in the evening It not only attracts a gang of regulars, it attracts boaters, holiday makers, tradespersons, passing trade from the railway station, both for those waiting for a train and those coming off and on match days it's a regular drop off prior to the match and pick up point after Norwich City have played Fingers crossed it is quickly snapped up and back as a thriving business
  5. Paul and the team at Swancraft were brilliant when the fuel kiosk was closed at Brooms, so its great that they are still able to assist and I feel we do owe them for their support, so I may just make the same phone call myself!
  6. We are due on her for a fortnight from 27th November and the tides appear to be kind to us, so we are going to follow your lead and head north also, then head back south on the Thursday of week 1 Its a chill trip after a verrrrrryyyyy long year so not really fussed about where we end up and not planned much (other than passing through GY) but we are so looking forward to it, whatever the weather!
  7. Glad to hear you had a great time. I love reading about your travels as it gives us ideas for our next trip Enjoy your last evening and have a safe journey home
  8. Thanks Alan for everything you and the moderators do I did recall reading it on here so thought I would just check out the BA site this morning for any updates, but could I find it? Nope! Hence referring back to the forum for the message and the link as it looks like we may be on MS 27th November until 11th December if things work out and are planning to travel north first before the closure affects the route
  9. I find the Broads Authority website so confusing as today I thought I would check out the current notices to mariners and see things which took place over 18 months ago and have long since finished and notices such as this nowhere to be found... Why they have so many differences on one website with notices to mariners, boating news and current notices, is beyond my comprehension and leads to confusion in my humble opinion! https://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/boating/navigating-the-broads/notices-to-mariners How on earth newbies go on, I have no idea.......... Whoever designed the website needs to get newbies to check it as part of a user experience test so they know the information is in the right place and easily found
  10. Excellent news for a much loved location
  11. As always, I wish a new owner the very best indeed and I look forward to visiting in the near future
  12. The problem you have is all of us have a bias based on our political, social, religious and economic position As such many in the press and those circulating such on social media are doing it to create hysteria, to support their bias or because they themselves have moved to panic mode and believe everything they read!! With an added sprinkling of selfishness!!!
  13. We had a few drinks and food in the Yare at Brundall last night and were tucked up for 9.30pm Up early, walked the dogs and did the last bit of tidying up before hitting the road around 7am We had one short stop on the A1 northbound and got home around 11.20am after a very memorable 10 day break, many miles covered and new friends and adventures had No 2 visits to the Norfolk Broads are the same and it's always sad to leave...but we will be back again soon... As for Roxy and Yogi.....they are currently fast asleep with the odd leg twitching as they appear to be back in Norfolk already in their dreams.....
  14. Looks like Brooms are funding the new fuel kiosk through their prices. If I remember correctly, pump outs were £18 for one and £23 for two last year and £3 for water is a bit strong too. Totally agree 👍
  15. No worries Helen They were great to be fair as even put it aside for us
  16. Just for information I have just refueled at Brooms and was charged £1.42 a litre with 30.06 litres costing £42.69 Pump outs £18.00 each (X2) Water refill £3.00 I also arranged to collect a 6Kg propane bottle replacement from John Hurrell and sons who kindly took the order over the phone and kept the bottle aside for my collection at a cost of £26 (John Hurrell and sons are near to the Surlingham Ferry House https://www.johnhurrellandsonsltd.co.uk/ )
  17. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story..... 😂🤣 We have just left Langley Dyke as we head to Brooms for a pump out and refuel, then I am off to John Hurrell and sons (https://www.johnhurrellandsonsltd.co.uk/ ) who have kindly set aside a 6Kg bottle of propane to replace the empty one on board Gas is hard to come by at the moment! Well the bottled stuff! 😳 Then it's cleaning duties and a quiet evening in the Yare to ready ourselves for the journey home tomorrow Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and especially Elaine's rendition of "nnnnnn nnnnn nnnnnn nineteen" every time he sped past.... 🚤 🤣 Take care and hope to see you on your travels again soon
  18. It's overcast but very warm today... Roof is down as we make our way down the cut towards Reedham
  19. Wonderful evening last night topped off by a Chinese from the Magic Wok and this morning a sausage butty for Mike and I, a bacon butty for April and an egg butty for Julie from the "No 142 cafe" Mike's response "that is a 10 out of 10 sausage sandwich" We all highly recommend this cafe which opens for breakfast and serves take away or eat in Today we will be heading back to Brundall to refuel, pump out and clean MS before our last night in the Yare
  20. Dad with his lad watching the powerboats
  21. Sorry, we must have passed earlier or we would have given you a toot Our view now...alongside Petersjoy.. Cant believe they thought we were from Yorkshire!!
  22. Up and about early this morning with the thoughts of the previous night still forefront in our minds Just taking a timeout overlooking the yacht station at Beccles with Roxy and Yogi Oulton Broad is our destination today as we have booked the mooring on the external side of the pontoon which faces the race course
  23. We made our way to Beccles Quay passing through the bridge around 1.30pm when it was showing around 8ft Really traumatic evening as a fellow boater lost there dog tonight who fell into the water and didn't resurface My son jumped in, but it was too late and the dog was lost Please don't reply with comments about what you should or shouldn't do with dogs, as it's not the time or the place Suffice to say my son , all of us and no doubt the family affected are deeply impacted by tonight's events Awful end to a wonderful day Our thoughts are with the family directly affected by this tragedy x
