  1. Alan have you watched any of this YouTube channel? Someone on here put me onto this one ... Simon, A Bloke in the Woods. He's got some videos on the Broads, some walking in North Norfolk and some are about general camping skills. Really enjoyed his trip this summer to Sweden, would highly recommend this if you get the chance to watch it.
  2. Love mooring at Paddy's Lane ... had it all to ourselves back in March. :)
  3. So no-one ever really mentions Bridge Broad. We've always wondered whether you are allowed in there ... that's the one just the other side of Wroxham Bridge? Is it an "in one end and out the other" kind of place or "one way in and out"?
  4. Welcome along to the forum Tricia. I look forward to hearing about your adventures and hope that you will share them here with us. There’s a lot of folk here who enjoy reading about all things boating.
  5. Welcome along. Hope you enjoy your holiday in September. We're considering a few days afloat in October and I've been searching for exactly what we want. Looks like it's coming down to two boats of a style that we haven't hired before so ... watch this space, as they say! :)
  6. How about we make it sway? I know how you like to support the local hostelries!
  7. Good to see you back JF ... so glad that you reconsidered.
  8. I guess that's the problem with all these electronically operated bits and pieces. We've only ever had to call engineers out twice ... and once was for an electric mudweight! The chain had got in a complete mess. Hope it's all sorted and you have a lovely day today. :)
  9. I had noticed that they seem to be offering this. Another initiative of their new owners perhaps. Guess they will fit winter maintenance around bookings or not have the full fleet on offer all the time.
  10. Thanks for sharing that one Helen. I think I've watched a number of the videos on their channel, very good.
  11. Hmmm ... I don't know. The way we look at it, the yard still has certain costs which are the same whether you are out for 4 days or 7 days i.e. admin staff, cleaning, laundering the bedding and towels if supplied, refreshing the little starter supplies, handovers etc. If you add this as a static charge to the hire cost for the number of days then that must be part of why it's never going to be a like for like per day. Just my take on it but there are many people better qualified than me to answer that.
  12. Sometimes it works out better for being able to take leave from work, especially with so many boats having Monday or Friday starts. But again, whilst you might be paying around 70% for 4 nights, that can mean that you can take the boat you really want which you wouldn't afford for 7 nights. We have done that.
  13. This is one of the reasons that we are very careful about the boats we choose. The bed has to be an island walk round bed without the headboard in the middle of the room or the bottom up against a wall. My husband is 6'4 and tends to wear a baseball cap all the time on the boat, especially when going in and out for mooring up. He has banged his head a few times but gets used to the height. The position of the bed is the main non-negotiable when we book.
  14. I did wonder whether that was the case David, or whether this had been in their fleet previously. It isn't entirely clear on FB but I read it that way as well.
  15. Sounds like you made the most of the day. Lovely photos.
  16. Maybe it's one out one in. They are also advertising Commanding Light as the flagship of their fleet. I don't recall seeing that one before. There's another thread about it on the forum.
  17. We have had a number of short breaks at each end of the season, partly because sometimes four nights is enough when the daylight hours are short and the nights are cold! But also it is more affordable for the kinds of boats we like to hire.
  18. We will definitely visit the church when we go back. :)
  19. Yes it looked closed when we were in Horning back in March and I’m sure I saw it for sale on a website somewhere.
  20. I am guessing this is partly the impact of the new owners. I don't remember them ever offering a discount before. And that's why we're holding off making a booking for October ... not sure which yard we want to go with and price may end up being the difference.
  21. I think early morning on the rivers is very hard to beat and always worth getting up for. Have a lovely day. :)
  22. Always interesting to read other people’s thoughts on things. As for eateries, the New Inn has become a regular lunchtime stop for us both when we’re afloat and when we’re out in the car. Have had a good meal every time. The Sutton Staithe Hotel was our other excellent meal back in March but that’s a fair trek from Horning by boat perhaps.
  23. Enjoying your write up and seeing your photos. Must have been great fun to be part of a group of that many boats cruising together.
