Agree completely Ray. Probably not the best time to have arrived. Picked up a prepacked sandwich for quickness given the queue. Would also definitely still try the one at Acle if we end up out that way. Is there anywhere much to park if driving rather than boating, does anyone know?

Can’t comment on the cafe at Acle. But we went to the one at Winterton-on-Sea yesterday. It was very busy as we arrived in the middle of lunchtime on a warm sunny day. Service was ok but the food was poor. I had a pre-wrapped sandwich which was completely soggy and tasteless. Put it down to the time we arrived. Might try it again on a different day out of season.

We often forget until we’re moored up just how many planes go over Ranworth, possibly on the flight path into Norwich.
  4. Great write up. Loved hearing how you got on with your first week aboard. You sound very settled and I’m sure your future trips will therefore feel even more relaxed.
  5. Wonderful write up and photos Helen. Did you find the boat as comfortable as you hoped it would be? :)
  6. Lovely start to your tale Helen. What fabulous weather you had. And Seren looks very at home. :)
  7. Useful to know. I will avoid the whole area when travelling to Lowestoft at some point and stick to the A12.
  8. Looks like you have some fond memories of this one Ian. Speedtriple it's such a shame if you're working somewhere that you're not really very happy. I'm up and down with my job, but a bit like you, I think I may need to work around another five years. Certainly don't feel ready to retire. Doesn't matter how much people tell you that ageism doesn't exist, I haven't had much luck looking for other jobs.
  9. I'm fairly sure as a hirer that you are still told to moor up before sunset. There are many boatyards that offer good advice and information via their websites. So this is just one example from a guide on Richardson's website. https://www.richardsonsboatingholidays.co.uk/first-timers/boat-hire-safety-code/ "DON’T Cruise after dark. You have no navigation lights and are not insured for night cruising."
  10. Hope you stick around Tim. A very enjoyable read and I’m sure there would be other topics to which you would make a valuable contribution.

    My Day

There’s been some amazing colours in the sea and the sky over the last few days. A combination of the the weather and the time of year, at a guess. Haven’t seen it quite like that for a long while. It felt like you could have been abroad. Stunning photos on various FB groups from people lucky enough to be afloat.
  12. I do think that Jack Leach should be getting more credit than I mostly saw in the media last night. He might not have been the one taking the runs but it was a last stand partnership without which Ben Stokes couldn’t have kept going. Well done to them both!
  13. Brilliant photo. Some amazing colours here on the coast right now so I’m sure there must be some spectacular sunsets around the Broads again tonight.
  14. We heard the last few balls on the radio. Amazing. What a superstar Ben Stokes is ... yet again!

Not quite on the Broads but we’re in Lowestoft today. Have just been for a walk by the sea. You rarely see it this calm along here and the colours are amazing. Not sure the photo will do it justice. Very hazy out to sea.
  16. I saw that once before and thought it might be fun. Never been to York. Hope you and Mrs Nog are having a lovely weekend. :)
  17. Congratulations to the happy couple! Hope you all enjoy the day. Fabulous weather for a special occasion.
  18. Really enjoyed reading your tale and seeing your photos. Having hired the same boat myself always seems to add an extra spark of interest to see what someone else has been doing with "my boat"!

Beautiful photos Chris and Jbx5. Looks like you both live in amazing places. I had noticed the misty morning on the various webcams.
  20. Have a safe journey and a lovely time. Did you make your decision about whether to head north and when? Need to keep a watch on all the various webcams ... and remember which "Shadow" you're on! We might be out and about on Sunday but no idea where yet.
  21. Wonderful write up. I love your sense of humour! ;)
  22. Alan have you watched any of this YouTube channel? Someone on here put me onto this one ... Simon, A Bloke in the Woods. He's got some videos on the Broads, some walking in North Norfolk and some are about general camping skills. Really enjoyed his trip this summer to Sweden, would highly recommend this if you get the chance to watch it.
  23. Love mooring at Paddy's Lane ... had it all to ourselves back in March. :)
  24. So no-one ever really mentions Bridge Broad. We've always wondered whether you are allowed in there ... that's the one just the other side of Wroxham Bridge? Is it an "in one end and out the other" kind of place or "one way in and out"?
