  1. Here's one that I found that I hope might be of interest - Norfolk Wildlife Trust. https://www.norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk/home They have some Christmas cards that you can order or you could give someone membership as a gift.
  2. Glad to hear that you are safely arrived Eric, even if not quite able to feel "at home" yet under the circumstances. Sounds like there's quite a lot to sort out then.
  3. Sounds like you had a very good time. And always nice to hear about a boat and a yard that someone would go back to. Mind you I've often thought that if a first time hirer starts from Loddon then they will certainly have an interesting time navigating the Chet as their first go at handling a boat!
  4. Hope it's all going according to plan. Safe travels.
  5. Many congrats on your anniversary, definitely a cause for celebration. We had a holiday in the Peak District some years ago and it's another of those places on the list for going back to.
  6. Lovely photos and great to read how your trip is going. Certainly has felt as if it's been a wonderful summer and autumn this year.
  7. The picture is much better quality again now as well. I miss the camera that used to be on one of the boats that did the river trips down to Salhouse and occasionally all the way to Ranworth. It was lovely to be able to see down the river, see how many boats were about and how many were moored at Salhouse through those months of sitting watching from home.
  8. Lovely photos. And by the way ... a bow thruster is no match for the wind! There have been a number of times when hubby is directing me in and telling me to use the bow thruster to straighten the boat .... and I already am but the wind has other ideas. Ranworth and Beccles are the two places where this happens the most.
  9. Lovely tale ... I also had a problem getting away from How Hill on one of our visits this year. It doesn't matter how much experience you've got when nature takes the upper hand and everything you know is textbook just doesn't work! Shame about the other people you encountered. I'm sure you wouldn't have taken that spot ahead of the other boat if it had been the only one. Looking forward to hearing about where you go next.
  10. Looks like it might be back up and running.
  11. Moon Beam in September was our first hire from this particular yard. The staff were lovely and the service was excellent. One thing they did say was that they had been told that all the Horizoncraft boats would be kept together on one quay at Stalham. So maybe the fleet will still have an identity of sorts.
  12. Very interesting to see the long lists of boatyards. I hadn't realised that quite so many had amalgamated and were separate yards / businesses to start with.
  13. It's been like that for a while. Some days it's ok, other days, possibly when it's windy and wet and there's more movement of the water, it's not so good.
  14. Lovely write up and photos. Everyone posting recently about being afloat seems to be remarking about how busy the northern rivers remained right through September. We found ourselves mostly mooring up around lunchtime for that very reason in both June and September this year.
  15. Enjoyed reading your writeup Bob. Having a few nights away on a short break is wonderful but it goes so quickly and there are always places you wish you had time to get to. Good to hear that your mum is on the mend.
  16. We did see a planning application notice stuck to a tree by the car park entrance from the road when we were there last month. Had a read of it and couldn't quite figure out where it meant the tea room was going to be. I think it would be a very welcome addition for holidaymakers moored at Salhouse. That's a long walk up from the Broad and then on to anywhere else with children or elderly people if you just want somewhere to treat yourself to a little something.
  17. Interesting about the refusal to allow the Pods. There did appear to have been people camping on the bank at Acle adjacent to the moorings when we were there in June. Nothing wrong with wanting to diversify a bit. But then I don't know anything about any legal aspects to running such a site.
  18. Stunning photo of the rainbow over the river. So glad to read that you have been enjoying your time afloat.
  19. Early mornings are the best time of day to be out on the rivers - we're usually up earlier on the boat than we are at home!
  20. Lovey read and very good photos. We moored in that exact same spot at North Cove a couple of years ago. I would count that as one of my favourite moorings ever and happily return if we get back down the Waveney at some future point.
  21. That is something that we have done as well. If we always hired out of Wroxham then our first and last nights would tend to be the same and we wouldn't enjoy just cruising that stretch of river as a destination rather than getting to and from the boatyard. We enjoyed hiring from Ferry Marina partly because of where they are - it gives you a lot of choice of where to go as soon as you pick the boat up. Really enjoyed reading all about your holiday and seeing all your photos. And taking your mum as well. Roll on the next time.
  22. I agree with Grace ... great write up and lovely photos. And yes, spotting boats we've hired before, or already booked for the next trip, is very definitely something we do. Mind you, given that there are a couple of boats we have hired a number of times, the list isn't very long! So that's a question for you Dave ... do you like to try different boats or do you like sticking to something you know to be just what you want?
  23. A great read Griff. However it confirmed what hubby and I were already thinking about whether boat ownership is for us. Wouldn't have a clue what to do if we broke down, other than panic! I guess we would be simply making very good use of our breakdown cover. Hope the weather holds on a bit longer for your next week away.
  24. Sounds like a good start to your holiday. Thurne Dyke is one of the moorings that we haven't done yet. Looking forward to reading more and seeing more of your photos.
  25. So interesting to see the maps of where you went. Lovely photos too.
