  1. Yes I do miss it. I was hoping to get a new one for Christmas, but Pozzick related expenses (such as having to buy a trailer for the car earlier this month) have rather constrained our spending this Christmas. At least I still have my iPad, and means to charge it whilst we are on the boat.
  2. I’ve now got them on my iPad, courtesy of Kindle, so they always accompany me to the Broads. Sadly my actual Kindle has died on me. Shame as the paperwhite screen allowed me to read even in bright sunlight where the iPad is useless in bright conditions.
  3. Phew, at least they are giving people good notice. When I saw the headline I thought ‘Oh no!’ But we should be fine.
  4. Tatty is good, for a book. Just imagine the number of kids that had read it. Hope they appreciated it as much as you did.
  5. Errr…no. My youngest (29, going on 30) is very fond of saying ‘are we there yet’ whenever we start off on a longish journey, such as when we set off for the boat. Our fault, having ribbed him so much for saying it when he was younger.
  6. Not so much fun for me and Graham! I think I need to invest in some ear plugs.
  7. Thankfully, it’s normally just for a short time, when we are close to usual walkies places. I’d go mad if it was constant!
  8. Oh dear. Seren has always got overexcited when we turn off toward usual walking spots. Now Pozzick's joining in. VID-20221217-WA0002.mp4
  9. I started reading this today, a gift from a dear friend who has obviously picked up on my love of Norfolk. It’s a book by John A Davies who had been chief curator of the Norfolk Museums Service. Very much enjoying it so far, though I’m only part way through the first chapter. So far I’ve learned that evidence of the very first human’s in Britain date back to around 950,000 years ago and were discovered in Happisburgh in 2013. That’s a lot earlier than had been thought. Fossils of very large exotic animals such as giant elephants dating from between 750,000 and 500,000 years ago were found near Norton Subcourse and gigantic mammoth bones found near West Runton. Looking forward to reading more!
  10. As we are due to be back on Moonlight Shadow on 30th December I asked the family if it would be good to take some decorations with us. Harry came home from his shift in IKEA today with some LED battery powered lights that have a nautical theme…well sort of…sea shell and star fish shaped lights.
  11. Thank you so much. I knew I could rely on members of the forum, particularly Vaughan and Liz.
  12. Guiness cake sounds good. Any chance of posting the recipe? (Please?)
  13. Happy birthday Pozzick! He’s 4 years old today! (According to his microchip info.)
  14. Does anyone have any info on what Horning looked like when Arthur Ransom wrote ‘The Coot Club? He describes, just downstream of the staithe… The boat-sheds were astern of them, the willow-pattern harbour, The description has always intrigued me.
  15. What a lovely post! Wish more people would take so much pride in their neighbourhood.

    Sunset!!

We might be unlucky Kate, although I’ve not been impressed with what we’ve bought at the Latham’s bakery, there are lots of other members here who love it.

Pub/shop open or closed? Whole lot was closed last winter. Love their choccies.
  19. Get well soon Mark. I'm crossing my fingers that we don't go down with it again before go to the Broads on the 30th. We had our flu jabs on Monday and I felt really rotten yesterday, better than getting flu though. I've heard on the grapevine that this year's flu is a particularly nasty one.

    Brrr!

You should get a reminder from the admin mailbox on 23rd. I've set up all the pre-holiday reminders up for the year in advance.
  21. That’s not a pie! It’s a cheats pie! A personal view, but I’ve always felt cheated if served with a casserole topped with pastry masquerading as a pie.

Flippin ‘ek Kevin. You almost sent me in a spin then, as I'd been thinking we are on the boat the first two weeks of January (from 30th December). I went back to check our weeks! Enjoy your week. Just do like we do and take low wattage electric heaters, electric underblankets and so on with you and you’ll be toasty. We have left one of our electric heaters on board, it’s generally stored under the sofa and doesn’t use that much electric overnight on shore power on a low setting. When we have the family with us and have two radiators and underblankets going on a very cold night we usually need more than £2 on the shore power post. I must admit our ‘winter gear’ for the boat has expanded over time.
  23. I’m hoping it’s going to be above freezing temperatures the first two weeks of January! If it is freezing or very windy we will stay in our Marina and explore Norfolk and Suffolk by car. Lots of places to visit, so it won’t be a hardship, though I’d prefer to be cruising any day.
  24. I think Pozzick will be fine, whatever the weather throws at us. His coat has got even thicker since he's regained some weight. However, your post has reminded me that it would be a good idea to take Seren's cuddly coat with us this time. She's had it a while and it's hardly been worn, but this trip could be just the time when it's needed.
