  1. Totally agree, but typically our Government is seemingly putting our hard-earned into experimental extraction of lithium from rising steam from hot rocks in Cornwall. Could be a problem with disposal of the rocking horse s***t.
  2. MM What is the freeboard on Elysian? When we hired Moon Quest Bounty?) a year or so ago we felt we needed crampons sometimes - no good for us ratchety-limbed wrinklies. When we move to Hickling in a couple of weeks I think we'll be looking for a single-level with 5' 2" air-draft. A few different ones about. Doug
  3. Is this the look for boats in the future? https://www.victronenergy.com/blog/2017/08/26/dethleffs-electric-drive-motorhome-with-victron-onboard/ Doug
  4. Despite Brexit a gentleman from Luton allegedly perpetrated the incident shouting a common phrase in a foreign language whilst displaying a 3ft instrument, thus proving that dangerous man-made Climate Change is bringing our civilization to an imminent end. Doug
  5. Once we had reporters. Now there are only self-proclaimed pundits of every persuasion pursuing an elitist agenda. Hard to find anything better than kitty-litter these days, I'm sorry to say. Tragic when RT seems to be the most balanced. Doug
  6. Backwards, forwards, stop, start, left and right, duckin' under, leanin' over and goin' around - that's the whole point of it. Their loss!
  7. Possibly even more interesting, though further off, are small-scale or modular reactors (https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/05/24/mini_nuclear_reactors_for_british_power/) not dissimilar to those used in submarines. Planned for district power and heat, built on an assembly line and shipped on the back of a lorry. Maybe one day for Broad Ambition? Doug
  8. This may be what you are looking for ... https://t.co/y5tHtErVNp If I remember correctly there were some experimental stations in US operating successfully after WWII, but someone in the govmt said "No more" and they were put on the back burner waiting for someone with some vision and commonsense. The Chinese have a few, I believe, and the relatively low cost would make them a good stop-gap until fusion happens for real.
  9. Siddy, would you consider ditching your home phone/broadband for 3 Mifi (or perhaps you have?)
  10. Hauled up outside the Greyhound with rescue Collie on a rather chilly evening. Stayed outside as said lovely pet tends to get a bit excited in company. Landlord insisted we bring him in, so I excused ourselves by saying we weren't sure that would be allowed. Landlord said "The clue's in the name". Doug
  11. Thanks for all your time and effort, Jonzo. This aside, it's a superb meeting place full of useful info and entertaining tales.
  12. Thanks, Jonzo. I've been waiting very patiently for the data transfer to finish to continue looking at the historical threads. That's par for the course but could not work out why only some of the images appeared in the latest messages. After more than 50 years in the computer industry I am more aware than ever that I know nothing! Doug
  13. I have the same problems - no emojis or avatars and around half the photos are replaced with the broken biscuit for no obvious reason. Using Nexus 9 with Nougat & all updates. A great shame as it runs fine on the PC. Doug
  14. You might find that many of these riverside properties are accessible only by footpath or river, and are on stilts for a reason. Highly desirable but not always practical. Doug
  15. Sounds like a potential show-piece. If only there were time... Doug
  16. Excellent! Shame the photos of the British Seagull Racing club are missing. Doug
  17. I could lust after one of these: http://www.classicseagulls.co.uk/index.php?_a=category&cat_id=2 Doug
  18. Comes with free H. Samuel Everite watch. Doug
  19. I can't imagine anything safer. Doesn't it make a good weed strainer too, though? Doug
  20. I had two friends who were seriously injured by propellers, one fatally. Is it time a case was made for propeller guards? They may decrease performance slightly, but that's surely not a Broads issue. For £150 or so it's worth it for a life, and for the most part hirers are dealing with "amateurs" and have a burden of responsibility http://www.rya.org.uk/knowledge-advice/safe-boating/look-after-yourself/equipment-for-uk-pleasure-vessels/Pages/prop-guards.aspx http://www.ybw.com/news-from-yachting-boating-world/coroner-calls-for-propeller-guards-to-prevent-deaths-2453
  21. That's kind of you. We're looking forward to moving to Hickling from Cornwall in the next few weeks. All the natives seem very friendly. Doug
  22. Hi, Alan I can only have been about 5 years old. I recall camping with my parents in a field near the water with use of a wooden sailing dinghy. My first taste of sailing. It rained, as I remember, every day for a fortnight, so parents decided to stay for a further week in hopes of an improvement. Guess what. A year or two later we spent a week with friends on board White Moth which was moored as a houseboat at Wroxham. All happy times. Doug
  23. As a forum newbie I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread. My first experience of the Broads was at "Camping Boats" on Oulton in the 50's. Does this ring any bells? Sent from the Norfolk Broads Network mobile app
