  1. They should accept any surveyor that's qualified, may be worth asking how often they want it done, GJW direct only want it done every 7 years, most want more often.
  2. At 6 week fills I'd certainly consider it but I only get through 2 4.5kg bottles a year usually so not worth the hassle for me, we don't do much cooking on board though.
  3. Back in 2010 I moored at Bill maxted's yard in loddon for a few months (by arrangement of course not just squatting ), maybe worth contacting him and see if he can help you out till you find something. Downside of salt side of oulton is the lock very soon makes it pricey again.
  4. He probably just hasn't paid the painter........ Not like him is it?
  5. I can always fire my heating up with no engine running even on a short days running and I only have 3x 90Ah batteries on domestic system, a good diesel heater shouldn't take too much to run once started. If shorepower is fitted there should be a lead somewhere as long as you have lecy cards, often there is enough left on leccy posts so check before you load a card to it. As said before start warm and you stay warm, a hot water bottle in a bed does wonders, I have heating outlets in my berth and spare ducting I run under the duvet and as long as I get into a warm bed I stay warm whatever the weather. Stick with it, we all make the odd bad mooring even after 20 years and as long as nothing is badly damaged and no-one is injured it's good, as long as you are prepared to appologise to people it's generally not a big thing.(and if it's another hire boat they don't care either)
  6. I'm sure the yare was up for sale last month, they must have already said something.
  7. I always wondered who the NBN balding beaver was......
  8. Now that has to be worthwhile service, sorry but you'll make sod all off me but I can see a god few very happy to pay for that Andy.
  9. Considering it used to be connected to france a few 100 metres is probably irrelevant, we do think within our own lifescales and expect everything to stay the same, nature is just not like that, geology is long term big time. I'm sure some on here can back me up with recollections of how it used to be when Pangea was still how it was.
  10. His last plan reached fruition, well at least it looked like it had fruited being that green.....
  11. Congrats on your new toy, you'll be rattling around inside that thing after a 27 footer!
  12. Freezeban is a non toxic antifreeze, cheaper too, a far better option for stuff that ends up being spat into the river. When doing the engine shut seacock and pour antifreeze into weed filter, fire up to pump through while tipping a bit more in then shut down when it's gone, refit weed filter lid.
  13. People from outside norfolk don't need his help as much....
  14. Churches are on hills for the same reason they are built tall, to be closer to God. It's why my beer cellar is so deep, I know which way I'll be going.
  15. That will be regarded as improvements.... I have to say if people think the broads are low lying a trip through salters lode lock and along well creek is quite an eye opener. You drop down off the tidal gt.ouse to see just the roofline of the hgv's on the road beside, when on that road you look down on the fields a good way, and you only ever get let through the lock after the tide has dropped enough to allow headroom under the bridge. Another spot is prickwillow pumping engine museum, kings Lynn high water mark is up on the mezzanine and you can see the drop to the fields through the back window, if ISIS discover Denver sluices and salters lode Ely will be an island again.
  16. Certainly yes to the last sentence.
  17. The reason for the north rising and the south sinking is all the Scots moving down here....
  18. That will silence the "wrong boat for the broads" brigade.....
  19. I only went by the low corner and still had an extra 6" over what the board said.
  20. Now that is an interesting and very useful resource if accurate, does anyone know who is doing it?
  21. Tie it alongside another boat needing bss and negotiate a cheap ticket for both as there's no extra travelling and only about 2 minutes of extra time needed, the examiner will probably say you don't need it.
  22. Not to mention the irony that the main lump known as a "black box" in aircraft is normally orange..... I don't think high level external venting is part of the bss for batteries just secure and terminals covered, not sure of age of boat so can't say anything about ercd regs, it is for gas/fuel for sure but the flammable part of a fizzing battery is lighter than air so doesn't collect in bilges like gas/fuel fumes.
  23. Toll wise the answer is yes you will need to pay a toll but if you only use it a few times it would be cheaper to get a visitor toll each time upto a max number of times (which I forgot), it doesn't need a toll when not in the water, I have never been hassled for an untolled dinghy hanging on the back of my boat, they only care when it's got it's bum wet. I'm also fairly sure a small electric outboard would be considered unpowered.
