  1. As always it’s the boater who suffers. As has been said before, the BA has got to beef its self awareness up and start striding for those it’s supposed to be supporting. moorings are getting critical but hey we have a great visitor center. These things don’t just happen
  2. Tides, longer between moorings, less wild moorings. Less Towns that are built around the boater eg potter and Wrexham. Less water points and the big one, fear of not getting back to yard
  3. I've since learnt that in all forms of boating, compromise seems to be the word.
  4. Broadsman. great boat, modern tech coupled with electrics and a total lack of wardrobe space and those little Knick knack cubby holes. And those showers that wets the floor for ages so you get wet feet every time you use them.
  5. I’m afraid the law does not work like that. You define local at a set thing then it must always be that set distance. One persons reasonable is another person’s unreasonable. Ive only heard of distance prosecutions at great miles like over a hundred miles round trip. Over forums argue that it means your county but who knows?
  6. Just wait until the end of March and anyone can use them. Must be easier.
  7. Things swing on public opinion. How many would blow their top against how many would be convinced of faster transit times? I own a boat but my votes a hundred miles away. This is why I and others bang on about public image and sliding rights that can easily be removed. In the greater scheme of things I don't think the issue would get that much head of stream especially as it wont effect the conservationists, paddle boarders and kayakers and other pastimes that seem to be more accessible to the general public and I suspect have a growing voice on the broads.
  8. Must should and shall have a big part in legislation and a PM’s speech. you must stay local generally the law you should stay local is advise
  9. Because these are suggestions, a bit like “Reduce your salt intake” Good idea to follow them, but it’s only a suggestion When the law says something that’s what what you obey because it’s the law. Problem is when the two get mixed up. That’s why we don’t live in police state.
  10. It’s about the pressure on the NHS always was, keep that to a containable level and covid slips into flu territory
  11. Squeeze this one under the wire. The dept I work for loved the idea of less people around. It meant you could get ahead of routine maintenance. Less wear on the infrastructure. The workforce was solely available for projects and funds was available under emergency legislation. Work flow was simple because the public would not be so demanding.
  12. welcome and I do miss those smaller yards.
  13. Its probably me, I wonder why the BA comes up short for us motor cruisers? I also work for a government agency and receive the exact same cabinet brief and interpretation and yet two departments come to different conclusions. DEFRA don't make policy, they interpret parliament laws and their advise for the November lockdown was its up to you. That aside, The BA felt like it cant wait to stop us from using the Broads to the extent we are able to. As above, they was way off from governmental advise in these last weeks that even just listening to the PM would have told them. Who on earth are they listing to? and they are not a public health body
  14. I don't see why not. Especially if you multiple boats of one mark. Hirers just need to keep an eye on the weather, so leave January and February alone.
  15. I know, but I run a kind of boating mistakes bank account for when I mess up it’s still plenty in the black.
  16. Good thing mines blue. I think it’s because a lot of beginners go for them due to easy mooring. They sit in the front and forget it is not a car and steers from the back. maybe more should be made of this types easy access when leaving a mooring by pushing the stern out into the river, climb on via level decks and continue to reverse into the river until you get steerage space. As a return barb, I was moored up at How Hill admiring and talking to the owners of a really well restored wooden boat. As he left, he never got the bow out enough. His mrs decided to fend me off with a boat hook. More lost paint. Am I the only one who uses a mop to do this?
  17. Hi all, what grease do you recommend for the stuffing box and the hydraulic motor thrust bearing? thanks
  18. I know I swear when I’m in the middle of a swarm of day boats playing mad max but it’s nice to see the place living, earning for the locals and spreading the word. Just don’t hit my boat!
  19. Whats beginning to grate at my work is the effective pay rise those that work at home had. no travel expense for instance, food etc and more time at home. Some parts are grumbling about removing the London weighting allowance and pushing for more annual leave to compensate. For me, all decisions are painfully slow, no cross flow of ideas and the gap between management and workers has grown.
  20. Point of order again. stern mooring? lean out as far as you can, shout at your other half to attract the attention of on lookers, whack engine room into energetic reverse, shoot back at rate of knots, forget your leaning out, sandwich yourself against next door boat, miss your other half shouting stop because of ringing in ears and sound of tortured BMC, rearrange capping of mooring spot, relishing the popping of fenders, have a go at other half for being too slow, turn off engine and pose at another good landing. seriously your right, tricky but it sits well once moored and a great fishing platform all round.
  21. Inboard. Easy to work on. More secure and more options regarding power options. Eg battery charging. small ex hire would fit the bill
  22. Hi all, Love the information and the knowledge that just seeps of of the forum (no its not beer) but I saw this invitation to join NSBA and having never really heard of it first hand, I wondered is it worth joining? thanks
