  1. oil would get into the raw water circuit via exhaust valve seals. Into cylinder, out unburnt to mix with water injector at elbow and then over board. The seals around the valve stems harden over time and this is more noticeable on first start as the oil has time to seep down the stems and will lessen as day goes on or valve stems/guides have worn. Also, is the oil right grade? Too thin can leak past. It will never get better and if this was a car it would emit a puff of smoke on start up. Its not fatal just keep your on oil level as the fix, especially on a marine engine is a head off operation.
  2. Curtains/blinds open or closed when leaving boat and why?
  3. My lorry’s heater can run all night but, here’s the point, on well conditioned batteries. As for my own boat, I installed a smart charger that conditions the battery and keeps an eye on it.
  4. Try this. Have you had an accident that was not your fault? why yes I have. was you hurt? yes I was! you could be inline for some compensation! oh good because I need it to pay for the wall I hit while speeding away from a policeman who wanted to breathalyse me after leaving the pub. .....................
  5. Also do not forget house prices are king. They cant do anything to dent that
  6. Free market economy. You provide houses for the people, they call you a socialist, and go running Allow them to spend loads over the value and suddenly, they are not the problem because they own their own house. Build social housing and everyone falls around in fear. Don't forget, "I'm not the problem, they are, over there"
  7. You can lead a horse to water... A lot of brownfield sites are in places people don’t want to pay big money for and the construction companies know that. The government has to start building maybe use a no deposit mortgage scheme. But remember, more houses means the house is worth less and a lot of people base their wealth on how much their house is worth.
  8. Yes and yes! Having picked a great year to buy a boat for the Broads, I don’t plan a wasted moment. Upon reflection it’s probably why I was angry at BA differing about being on your boat in lockdown.
  9. Just don’t read it. Really can’t see the problem here. The title gave nothing away.
  10. Yes sorry, about 40 million people under fifty in this country. of 61 thousand deaths 50 thousand was over 65. So a large slice of the population won’t die from it or be affected especially if you’re young. Ok so if your under 50 and your watching your job slide away and you can’t go out, very unlikely to even know you’ve got covid then just maybe you might go out and meet your mates and chance it.
  11. The classic split. Vast majority of population it won’t effect, but if it does, only mild. Sizeable chunk it just won’t touch. And we all know where the argument goes when you say think of other generations. Used that argument in the referendum. so it becomes risk reward sum and I’m guessing to a sizeable mass it becomes reward.
  12. The way I see it. Every "Lockdown" gets weaker, every tier movement up (looking at some local figures, some areas only just stopped being in tier3) will be ignored. Christmas given to the public because I believe it would be ignored wide scale. Over in Kent, it has become obvious that the NHS cant cope leaving people 40 miles from infection wondering and so the rot grows. The one thing authority cant lose is the consensus because by that is what governs us. Now I've not been a believer in lockdowns or harsh rules but more of personal responsibility because this is a free state not a police one and because I work for the state I can see its limitations, usually hidden from view but now being exposed. This is an expensive country that needs a lot of maintenance that must be paid for. Health versus wealth.
  13. Believe me, the pay makes up for it. Well it did when I worked for Balfour Beatty rail.
  14. We had some lovely lakes around where I live, managed by local fishing clubs at reasonable rates. then a professional fishing club approached the land owner and now 500 to 1200 pound a year to fish it.
  15. Good point. However it does say unlimited travel. The point of this lockdown was to stop families and groups mixing hence the rule of six. As has been pointed out family groups generally break the 2 meter rule because that’s what families do. Introduce the virus into that and it spreads like fire.
  16. As a side order and tin foil hat on, They could not wait to jump on the cruiser boater could they? More "green Lobby" agenda?
  17. Hi, If you agree with me or not, it has become apparent that the BA chose wrong to stop cruising on The Broads. As it was pointed out in an another place, you pay a Recreational toll on your boat and since recreation was allowed... Anyways, moving on, I feel I've been denied a months use of my boat and the BA had a months toll off of me for no reason. I'd like to see the reasoning behind this decision, what advice they took and from whom. Did they think lockdown 2 was an extension of lockdown 1? And if they did why? My governmental department knew this lockdown was different and issued us with changed guidance and passes to travel even before the new legislation passed into law, why did the BA react so slow and then failed to react to changing information? DEFRA made it clear that no new guidance was going to be issued regarding boating, so why did BA not follow other national parks? If the new tier system is strengthened then many wont be able to travel to their boats and this time that will be legitimate. Thats fair. However, in this lockdown, I think the BA over reacted and maybe assumed too much as many did and you can argue about the "sprit" of the law or the "morals" of the law but i'm afraid that don't wash. The law just dont work that way. "Sorry your honour, I nicked his motor because I thought it morally wrong his got such an expensive car when others have not." So as i sit and look over the Medway, I see motorboats inch past me on their way to marinas, I cant help thinking that an explanation is needed.
  18. There’s another way of doing it. Find your space, measure up and get it made. At least that’s what Richardson’s have done to our ex hire. massive tank but flattened so it can fit under bed. unlagged but a quick visit to a builders yard and it’s ready for winter. Stainless steel by the look and as an added bonus a nice gentle warmth radiates to the mattress
  19. His a poet and he never knew it.
  20. Thanks! As an east coast sailer my boat went up on the hard for winter so it was safe but I missed some lovely winter sailing. This time around I spurned the offer from my boatyard for winter hard standing determined to cruise in the winter. oh hindsight. Fishing sounds a good idea....
  21. Hi all, Just a thought. Although not obligated to end lockdown in December and can extend lockdown 2 to January pressure is growing to toughen up the Tier measures. Indeed the stance from ministers is going from we will definitely end lockdown in December to we will save Christmas. In the tier system travel from a higher tier to a lower one is banned. Not being funny here but those who haven’t winterised their boats thinking they could wait until lockdown 2 ends could be in a world of hurt. I guess it all depends what tier you live in but personally the lack of a run up to this lockdown and it coming on in the middle of a work week has given many no chance.

    Implications

Any journey that ends in recreation isn't classed as unnecessary, no matter how long. So that never was said. Boris actually encouraged exercise and recreation and in fact, no limits was imposed for travel. Local journeys. This bits is a carry over from lockdown 1. Lockdown 1 rules was superseded by new legislation for lockdown 2. A fact that was not made widely known. This is the bit BA could have handled better. Others, including my own agency, printed a copy of the new rules and listen to Boris carefully when he said this was not going to be the same.
