  1. The BA is not a public health authority. We have a huge department for that. I thought they looked after the health of The Broads and it’s economic outlook.
  2. I’ve just had a local government briefing. And your right, BA is not following government advice
  3. Any distance to it? Read above. Minimise travel is a vast difference to stay local. you must see that. And I have. Have you? minimise travel means one journey instead of two. it don’t mean stay local
  4. Sorry BA, but your continued stance against motorboat owners instead of protecting and promoting their use is ridiculous. when I stand at the waters edge and see canoe, paddle boards and yes sailing boats go by (with their engines on) and fishing boats and I wonder where is your voice during this pandemic? I know this is government but I fail to see any protest especially last November when we could use our boats but you said no So, no. I think I will follow the law. if I’m wrong I’m happy to stand corrected
  5. Down, and deeper on down. As my dad said, Always use protection son because five minutes of madness could equal a whole lifetime of hassle.
  6. Yes your right. What I meant was that the canals are obviously man made rather than man made blending over time into a false natural state. Then you don't get some shredded wheat vest wearing geezer in your face when you move a sign post to "Little Dribble" two inches to the right because a water rat named Tony wants to watch Man united versus Driveshaft FC on the box.
  7. The canals have vast stretches of tow path to moor on. Free toilet facilities and provided water points. To be honest, based on my experience, Canals are very much better but then again, most canals run near services. canals have more infrastructure to maintain. But i think the canal trust gets a hand out from government. Its a close run thing but I guess the canals focus is on the boats because the canals was built for the boats rather than everyone else.
  8. where does he/she keep pen and paper?
  9. The canal lock keepers seems to be more of a hobby
  10. The pay is pretty awful in this day and age.
  11. Because what figure is acceptable? What price is life risky? remember the slogans. Protect the NHS. once the pressure is off the nhs and infections get more manageable then that’s job done. It’s not to stop people dying. once the levels dip to around other seasonal illness job done. Because, and I know this first hand, the real race is to get our economic engine going fast. I suspect one of the bonuses of the injection is to enable the work force to work. A debt bigger than the world war 2’s, massive unemployment, uncertain world outlook, waiting nhs lists bigger and longer than ever and Uk infrastructure creaking all need money. It’s the health versus wealth debate and I think it’s time to address the wealth side. And as the sun shines I really don’t think the public would accept anything less
  12. Covid or not these children are the future tax payers, scientists road workers etc. Learning to learn is a habit they can’t afford to lose. The input of education must be kept up and for these reasons I think the kids are the most important consideration
  13. They messed up in November and it’s about time they acted for the boater, all of us.
  14. Not much help at all, I have a Bermuda 34, BMC engine with hydraulic drive and although I've seen it many times, I can't tell you the make. But as a side note, feel this model from 1974, never came with this as delivered or was never designed for this. The drive motor and thrust plate have been added and the pipe work from the pump although neat, still look like an after thought. To the stern right is a space that looked as if a diesel tank once occupied with filled in filler hole. The tank is mid ships now.
  15. Oh the cleaning! will no one think of the cleaning? The sound of pressure washers filling the air! Finding that cloth you left lying around that's now a home to mould. The moment of wonder when your water springs to life hopefully not to a spring. piles of dead batteries. cant wait.
  16. I enjoy my water garden on The Broads
  17. Totally. Might miss the food but I’m afraid to say it, pubs are expensive and non to special to let it ruin a break.
  18. As a brickie agreed but I think it goes unsaid the ability of sticking a zero or taking one off or indeed moving the decimal point is very easy and automatic and that what makes it superior to imperial. As to large distance, we use the metric system on the motorway network but ironically for the motorist we use miles and yards. The marker posts you see at the side of the carriageway is in kilometers and meters.
  19. As above. If you have experience doing your car engine then your boat is a cake walk. I have a BMC 1.8 on a shaft via hydraulic and access is good apart from the impeller but I’m going to convert that to a easy to open kind with thumb screws. I change everything serviceable as a matter of course and not forgetting that grease nipple on the drive. Anything deeper than that I leave to the boatyard
  20. Apparently happened last year.
  21. And on that note, carbon monoxide alarm working not just there.
  22. Spot on! When we was looking to invest, I explored the idea but came to the conclusion that we really could not turn up and go anytime and every decision was a discussion. And then any accidents...... For my capital outlay it really needs to be out and about when we want to be worth it.
  23. The Thames barrier was part of a system to protect London and downstream tidal areas which it does very well. raised flood walls and Barking creek flood barrier. The upper Thames is a separate scheme. But the same problems apply to the upper river areas if a barrier is used
