    Flooding

I agree with what you say about the awful consequences that some businesses may experience with these floods. However I don't understand why I have seen nothing in this debate from Richardson's CEO albeit he is part of the B.A. and on the Navigation Commitee, or have I missed something? Surely as the biggest hire boat operator they have some clout.

Thank you everyone for your replies, especially Mouldy for the photos which say it all. My boat is the furthest one in the second photo.

    Flooding

I'm hoping to get down to the boat next week, as I haven't seen her all winter. Does anyone have an update on the flooding, particularly around Horning Pleasurecraft and The Ferry Inn?
  5. I notice on their BK website that the boats featured are all Shadow Boats (Swancraft) and the yard photo is theirs. You mention Paul you spoke to, is this Paul Crampton? If so that's Shadow /Swancraft, in which case you would be in very safe hands of a highly knowledgeable perfectionist. Paul built our boat in 2008 and has maintained her from new. A beautiful boat that I wouldn't swap for any other.
  6. Our charge went up on 1st October 2023 to 30p per unit no standing charge.
  7. The marina where we moor has jumped up as 4 years ago the marina owner negotiated a 4 year fixed contract with the electricity company which we have had the benefit of, but this has now expired and the electricity company has increased the rate. There is no mark up on the cost to us, it is charged at the same rate that the marina owner pays.
  8. I'm sorry to hear that NN. Speaking as I've found, I've phoned on a few occasions in the past and booked a mooring with no problem. Suspect I'd have no problem if I'd had the audacity to bowl up in my Vauxhall either. Let's hope the new owners are boat friendly and you have no problems in the future.

  10. It's on Horning Pleasurecraft's Facebook page
  11. Use to enjoy the Maltsters, but stopped going there having tried it a few times after Roy left, when it was a proper pub. After the so called refurbishment in modern 'cold' decor, it was laid out like a canteen with young unwelcoming staff. Totally uninviting to call in for a few drinks and a chat. The terrace out the front was filthy and hadn't seen a jetwash in years and tables needed replacing. It use to be our regular call in from our Horning mooring, probably 15 times a year, but haven't been there since Packman started charging for our 'free' moorings.
  12. I took this picture via BB webcam at 8:50 this morning, being the low water springs time (lowest low of the fortnightly tide cycle). It looks like about 5'8" to me.
  13. Looks fabulous Clive, what a Hire Craft!
  14. I remember those days as a child, when Prince Phillip stayed at the pub. Not sure that's anything to be proud of for the Norfolk wildlife Trust though. As I remember, by the time he and his party left, there weren't a lot of ducks left!
  15. I read about this on my Google News this morning and so pleased to see that it may reopen. The article said that it closed due to a drop in trade, which wasn't helped by so few boats now visiting. Perhaps the Norfolk Wildlife Trust would be a sufficiently respected organisation to lobby the B.A. to dredge the Lower Bure to try and get some more air draught under PH bridge. That is, if the NWT felt so inclined!
  16. Incredible. Do they get charged! We hired for 8 years from Rico's, before we purchased 'Bon Bon'. The boat was always returned spotlessly clean inside and out and we would get up early on the last day to do this. I wouldn't mind betting that we were in the vast majority of hirer's. However there are some awful people about, as we all experience from time to time on the Broads. Luckily they are in the vast minority, as most hirer's we meet a nice good people.
  17. The same reason I let my wife do all the cooking, having been deprived in the 50's and 60's of domestic science lessons. (Mind you, that was a bit of luck).
  18. If you are laying up for the winter, then it's best to change it at the beginning of the season, otherwise it sits static all winter with one fin bent over in the pump housing which is narrower at the water inlet to make a good seal.
  19. Hi Katie I gave the engine make and serial number to Sonny Boulter and he looked it up on his computer and sold me one accordingly. He was correct too.
  20. One kind person left £10.40p at Acle last week, that has to be a record, or is it? How on earth can this happen?
  21. How right you are. Where else is there in the UK that you are so relaxed that you wave to complete strangers when passing by.
  22. If anyone can tell me how to do this via wifi, I would be grateful. I am with EE and have a Samsung A70, My wifi is with Tesco, who use the o2 network and has an iPhone 14
  23. Correct, no problem with PH Bridge in those days!
  24. Thank you for the update, that sounds good and reception should be better than before as the old mast was at Neatishead. To make calls in the Horning area at the moment, we have to return to our marina berth at Horning Pleasurecraft, where we have excellent wifi. However, this does restrict calls to friends and family via WhatsApp, we can't make calls to landlines.
