  1. Hi SwanR, We've had our week on Bella Maria 1. The boat was nothing less than fantastic. It is by far the best boat I've ever stayed on. Complete comfort in every aspect. Huge bed which suited my bad back. Masses of cupboards and 3 wardrobe type lockers in the bedroom. The bathroom was a proper bathroom very large for a boat with a full size separate shower cubicle with glass door. No compromise had to be made whilst using the facilities. Electric toilet design was brilliant. It appeared to use quite a bit of water but to nothing excessive looking at the water usage. We had a pumpout after on the 5th morning as advised by the boatyard but there was no sign of needing one if you know what I mean. Galley and saloon were as per most bathtub boats. The saloon seats were bigger in the seat than other boats we've been on. A great boat overall which I will be using again I hope.
  2. I wondered if Breydon would be closed to hire craft. I'm pleased I changed our plans. We are at Thurne dyke, I think that's what it's called. Going to the Lion for a meal tonight. Never been so here's hoping.
  3. Morning Kate, Vera seems to love being on the boat. She is mesmerised by the river and the activities around it. Especially the ducks and geese. We were going southern broads but have decided to stay north. I'll give you a pip if we pass again.
  4. Hi Kate, We passed you this morning as you headed towards Stalham. We were on Richardsons Bella Maria. We exchanged waves.
  5. I was planning on having a night there this week if Breydon water is open. We always used it as a stop over before going to Beccles. As said it was interesting watching the campers come and go. The pub was OK and we enjoyed walking the dog around the field next to the church.
  6. Great write up and some lovely pictures. We are back on the broads on Friday. We are going south so you have whetted my appetite.
  7. An exciting project to follow. Great photo of Thorpe boat builders.
  8. I'll let you know. It's a boat I've wanted to try after looking at Borelo all of those years ago. I'll be going south for the week.
  9. We've just come home on Friday from a week on Goosander. Today I've booked a week on Bella Maria starting on Friday coming. We've got to make the most of everything while we can. I've always liked the look of the Haines Bure 36. Really looking forward to another week on the broads.
  10. They seem a lovely down to earth couple enjoying the broads. I look forward to the next edition. Thanks for posting David.
  11. Hi Helen, We were on Goosander at Upton Dyke corner on Tuesday night. What a night that was. I've just viewed this thread and didn't realise you were on Moonlight Shadow or I would have introduced myself. An opportunity missed.
  12. I was in Lathams earlier in the week lots of large disposable BBQs for sale. Inconsiderate people will always find a way to be a pain to the majority who are quietly going about their business. Unfortunately it's becoming more common in this modern world. I must be getting old.
  13. Barolo is as nice as it gets as a flat tub. I used to see it moored at one of the waterfront properties on the main river at Horning. We looked at it in 2015 ish when nya had it for sale. Too rich for me at the time.
  14. The Haines Bure 36 is the ultimate 2 berth broads boat. We looked at Borelo, another Haines Bure 36. It was described as a luxury apartment on water and that's exactly what it was. Fair Lily was only for sale for a couple of days. I'm hoping to book it in September.
  15. It looks a lovely boat. Very comfortable for 2 people.
  16. We came several times with mum and dad in late 60s and 70s. Caribbean class boat, Vesta 3, one from Sandersons and a few more. I fell in at Acle Bridge and almost drowned when I was about 10 yr old. Older lady pulled me out and I woke up in my parents cabin. I can remember it clearly even though it was 50 yrs ago. I look at various places on the broads that reminds me of childhood visits.
  17. Hi Kate, this is our new addition. We lost Ollie in October. This is a female called Vera. She is 9 yrs old and belonged to the under keeper at Wykeham. He retired her 4 days before Christmas. She really is a darling. We are lucky to have her.
  18. We were down 5 weeks ago Kate but I didn't see you on the river. I'll keep an eye out for Springers Retreat.
  19. An Interesting read. I've always found the public toilets around the broads to be very good. And most are free of charge unlike 40p at Scarborough. Those moorings at short dyke were disappointing with grass that length and I would say dangerous. £5000 a year for a boat on the broads is a lot of money. I didn't realise it was so expensive. I agree with Katie about the state of some of the public footpaths. I suppose they will be the first facilities to be cut in this modern era. No pun intended. Human waste in the water is a big no no from me. The broads are still the best holiday destination for me and I will be there in 6 days for a week. This is a great forum thanks to you guys and thanks for your inputs. I love your diary threads.
  20. I hope you get the very best of outcomes with your treatment. Good luck.
  21. But don't call him Dave. It's David. Go in person. That's what I did and got a mooring there and then. Beautiful marina.
  22. Interesting read. Additional to tyres and probably more dangerous to us is brake dust. I've wondered for a long time about how much brake dust is in the air.
  23. What a shame. We've used it many times over the years. Them having to close, due to what will probably be a disproportionate increase in rent, is everything that is wrong with the modern world. I will walk to the Angel Inn in future to support them.
  24. I'm going back 5 yrs but when I used a £1 card in the electric Post I always left the next morning with 40 pence on the post. That was charging the batteries, tv, toaster and other things. The Bridge Inn at Acle used to charge a fiver for electric, which i thought was enough. £10 is taking the mick. I won't be mooring there again.
  25. Just get a second cable. How long is a piece of string is the answer to how many metres.
