  1. I think the general attitude to work has completely changed in the last generation. I was brought up to believe work comes first. That's what pays the bills. And as a child I completely understood this and then carried on the same mantra in my working life. I've done 36 yrs of weekends and 3 shifts. I've no complaints and never had a complaint from members of the family. They understood what was required. We made time for each other when we could.
  2. Thanks for posting. I have always wondered what would happen if a pump failed or batteries were not on to power said pump. I'm amazed more pumps don't fail judging by the amount of older boats there are and the state some of them are in. I suppose its possible to have two pumps fitted, one being a back up. We went to look at a boat that had been for sale and the vendor had switched the power off completely. On entering the boat the agent immediately put the power on and the bilge shot the water out at what looked to a very strong flow. I looked under the floohatch in the saloon of the boat and it wouldn't have been long before the whole boat would have been flooded.
  3. I love the pontoon mooring at the Hardley Mill. It's been a few years since we were last there. Lovely write up and pictures. Being so far away from the broads it's nice to look at the pictures.
  4. I'm the same domain. I'm always checking the classifieds to see what's for sale. Is it worth stating your budget and type of boat that you are looking for. Someone might know of a boat that is available but not advertised.
  5. Interesting thread. In my circle of friends I am the only one who comes to the Norfolk broads for a holiday. Whenever price is mentioned most of them think it is an expensive holiday. You couldn't pay me to go abroad nowadays.
  6. I've never had a good meal at the Bridge Inn. For a little bit more effort it could be good but frozen peas and frozen chips don't cut the mustard.
  7. The men's game has really lost the plot. Its quite refreshing watching the ladies team playing the game as it should be played. Except for the silly girl who got sent off for standing on the opponents back. Hopefully they can beat Spain in the final.
  8. I've had a look at the boats on discount. Some good deals for the time of the year. I don't think they are in trouble. There is only about 8 boats available out of 84. Give or take a couple. They are better hired out at 60% than not at all.
  9. I thought it was pricey as well. Built like tanks.
  10. Sorry I can't do the link but there is a Faircraft Senator 33 for sale at NBS Brundall. Its not a sedan but it really is a spacious boat. Its been for sale for a long time for some reason. It might be of interest to you.
  11. It amazes me how many churches were built in villages throughout the country. The power of church was boundless. They are always lovely buildings and very interesting places to visit.
  12. Great to see good service isn't completely extinct.
  13. That Siesta looks a lovely little boat.
  14. And mine. Excellent taste.
  15. I like the idea of a refundable deposit for hirers. It might make some be more thoughtful about their manoeuvres.
  16. That is the worse stretch of the Norfolk broads imo. From Stracey windpump to Yarmouth. It always seems to take ages to travel it.
  17. It's years since we went over Breydon water. We used to go south every other holiday when we owned our own boat. I loved going over Breydon water. Never had a problem with it.
  18. Can I ask a question about twin engines. Is it normal when on the rivers to use only one engine alternately or do you alway use both together all of the time. Sorry to ambush the thread slightly.
  19. If you are going along the Waveney you have got a bridge at St Olaves and a rail bridge at Somerleyton. Like the northern broads there are plenty of places to moor. Get a Broadcaster paper it'll give you lots of info. If you are going up the Yare you have a rail bridge at Reedham and then no bridges till you approach Norwich. Again lots of places to moor. The big difference is the tidal flow of the southern broads. Moor using long ropes and just have your wits about you a bit more. Beccles is nice but will be very busy. If you can get under Beccles bridge the river is lovely as you leave the town towards Geldeston.
  20. Just forget it. Putting them right is a no win situation. It may make you feel better but if it goes pear shaped you'll regret ever mentioning it. Move on.
  21. He came to Gays Staithe last week when we were there. I thought I'd try a pork pie to have with some Branston and a glass of wine. All of the pies were £10 from what I could see. I was disappointed if I'm honest.
  22. There is a general lack of consideration in all aspects of life nowadays unfortunately. It's a combination of a poor upbringing and lack of discipline. And I don't mean poor in the financial sense.
  23. Going back to the earlier posts it looks to me like the local authority will take control of the Horning moorings in 2025 and place a daytime time restriction on all boats. A bit like a limited waiting or disc parking with a car on the roads. Hopefully this will not happen and the BA will renew the lease with no change to the current conditions.
