  1. Hello John, Yes it is, I have said it is a pity there is not a bridge across the river because we could have a tipple at the Coldham Hall, it is just across from the entrance to the marina. Regards Alan
  2. Hello John, I have only just seen this post that you made earlier in the year. orry not Ranworth, we are moored on Tingdene Marina, we have been down here around three years now before we were moored at Ferry Marina, at the time we thought it was alright but after seeing other marinas on the Broards now know it was lacking. Regards Alan
  3. Hello Andy, Our boat is out 40 weeks a year and we are going to increase this maybe up to 48 weeks this year. Our current tv is now around two years old and we have used it both on 12 volt and mains during this period and we have some owners that will use the tv for more than 20 hours a week let alone 20 per year, sad I know but that life. Regards Alan
  4. Hello Saltire, Welcome to the forum. As Stu says it may be best to stay on the Northern Rivers and Broads, there is plenty to do and now it is getting later in the season there may be more mooring available at the popular spots. I am not sure of your boat height, but Potter Heigham has been out for a number of craft this year and with the rain yesterday I would think that advove Potter Heigham would be out of the question. The pilots at Potter Heigham and Wroxham will say yes or no to your passage/passage back. With regards to tide tables I always use the Broads Authority website tables, the reason for this is that their tables give the height of the low tides and we can only go through Yarmouth at certain tides due to our air draft. Have a good time and please report back to us all how it went. Regards Alan
  5. What about the poor old chap last month that had his outboard sawn out of his transom to get the outboard. The boat of course sunk. The chap had the boat for 30 years or more, it is doubtful that he will get on the water again without a lot of help. If it was down to me hands would be the second thing they would cut off! and I am not joking. Regards Alan
  6. Our tv has both leads, we opt for the 240 volt when available but use the dc input when we can not hook up to shore power. After saying that more time than not we just put on a DVD, we can normally get a signal now with the new digital aerial but struggle to find anything on the tv these days. Regards Alan
  7. Hi Brian, Was it 17 to 18 foot and made from marine ply? Regards Alan
  8. Hello bc7016, Welcome to the forum. You may be better contacting some of the larger boatyards direct you may have a better chance of hiring a boat. If any of the yards will let you hire it may be subject to a very large deposit. I hope you do manage to hire a boat and that some company gives you a chance to enjoy the Broads. Regards Alan
  9. Hello Brian, We saw a pair of baby herons a few years ago whilst mud weighting on the edge of South Walsham Broad, we were near to the trees and could see them quite easily, they were trying to catch fish like their parents. Regards Alan
  10. Hello Brian, Glad to hear you had a good week and samples some of the better meals that some of the Southern Broads pubs can supply. How was the lunch at the Wherry we have all been waiting reports of the hotel since its refit. Regards Alan
  11. Hello Ted, Thank you for postiing your report from your trip on the Broads. It would seem that you had a good time despite the cold and the closed pub, we have had to rustle up the odd meal over the years whilst moored at Bramerton. It sounds as if you have caught the Broads Bug, be warned there is no known cure. I would check out the boats that look like a floating bedroom, they are all on one level and are ideal for two people and will give you the luxury that you want. Regards Alan
  12. Sometimes it can be a bit hit & miss, if you are using USB dongles it may be an idea to take a usb extension with you so you can move the dongle to a better location. If you have hardly any phone service in an area then 3G is not going to be any better, you may get it reverting to a slower service however. Regards Alan
  13. Hello Hylander, Thank you for the email. Do you know the full list of the trial 24 hour mooring locations? from previous repots I have seen the Broads Authority were talking about 20 locations. From the email you posted I can see that there is a lot of book passing with regards to insurance, fumes and disruption from unruly crews. I noted on another forum that a person new to cruising the Broads and on a boat was not overjoyed whilst being moored that another boat still had it engine running turned 11.00pm. We thankfully do not have weeks on our boat during the 6 weeks summer holiday no doubt when the trial would have come into effect. I do not have a problem with double mooring and have done so in the past, however with the increase in our excess on the insurance I would have to avoid these situations for fear of any damage done to the boat. When a boat is shared you have to have regards to all of the owners within a syndicate. Regards Alan
  14. Hello Ian, I guess that you are going to need shaorter lengths of cable rather than full drums, this being the case there is a chap advertising on Ebay who hasa marine supply company. Do a search on Ebay for Marine wiring, there is a supplier in Sheffield (Item number: 261018983343) another under marine cables in Manchester (Item number: 110884515712). I look forwards to your pictures. Regards Alan
  15. Hello Ian, Here is a site that may help you regarding the colours needed, all the 12 volt wiring will be the type used in car/lorry installations and this may be your best option with regards to suppliers. http://www.boatwiring.org/boat-wiring-color-chart/ After saying that Brian Ward's do a lot of panel work and they also stock a wide range of 12 volt cables. Regards Alan
  16. Hi Ted, I hope you and your crew all enjoy yourselves on the river and the broads, take in the slow easy pace, call in for a few well earnt beers at the end of the day and enjoy those sunsets from the back of the boat. When you get back tell us how you got on and some samples from your ships log. Regards Alan
  17. Hello Leo, I also missed out the Beauchamp Arms at Buckenham. If it has worked I have added a file giving the pub, hotels and marina details. Regards Alan
  18. Hello Joe, If you go to the staithe at Rockland St Mary the New Inn is 50 yards from the mooring just over the road. The pubs at Loddon are all within 500 yards of the mooring (The white Horse Chedgrave, turn right over the bridge is the furthest but worth the visit). The cafe is just through the carpark and across the road, same with the shop next door. Dukes Head is about 300 yards from the mooring up a lane. Pubs you can moor outside, so close walking. Ferry Inn at Surlingham, all the pubs at Reedham including the Ferry Inn, Coldham Hall at Brundall, Woods End at Bramerton, The Bell at St Olaves (but watch out for the bridge a lot of current here). The Waverley River Centre all within the site, pub and pool the furthest at less than 200 yards. I would think that you can moor outside the Wherry Hotel on Oulton Broad, but if you moor at the yacht station there is a couple of pubs and some shops in less than 300 yards. I hope the above helps, there maybe some places that I have forgot. Regards Alan
  19. Hello Everyone, I sent a reply I had back from the Broads Authority which I passed onto my insurance company. The BA more or less said that they had consulted Navigators and General and their senior underwriter did not see a problem at the moment with double mooring. I passed this information onto our insurance company that have now altered the excess back down, but not to the original amount. It was £300 they said it would double to £600 and now it will be £450 if there is a claim whilst on a double mooring. As I said earlier that this would not put me off double mooring if the conditions were alright, similar sized boat etc. Regards Alan
  20. Hello Rich, I had a look at the stills and video all very good, that boat of yours can certainly go was that 30 knots? Are you going to be in the shop late October early November, I am down on the boat from the 30th October, can I call in for a quote on our upper seating? Regards Alan
  21. Hi Joe, There was a maggot machine at the Waverley River Center outside the shop there, well there was last year. I would also think that you may get some at Loddon. Regards Alan
  22. Hello Marty, Welcome to the forum. I totally agree with all of the other posters and most people who do go into Yarmouth would moor at Acle or at the Stracey Mill and go into Yarmouth by taxi or public transport. Your best bet for nightlife is Norwich City Centre near to the Norwich Yacht Station. Personally I would have thought a pub crawl at Horning may be better. Regards Alan
  23. Hi Joe, Welcome to the forum. With regards to grocery shops on the Southern Broads. At Somerleyton there is a post office but it is a good walk from the 24 hour mooring (could be a good excuse to call in the Dukes head on the way back) Waveney River Centre there is a shop of sorts and of course the pub (its around £10 to stop the night but includes power hook up if you need it, showers and toilets are good, also there is a swimming pool on site) Beccles Yacht station (£7.60 mooring extra if you want electric hook up, £1.75 for a 12 minute shower, also washer/driers in the toilet blocks) very good walk to the shops but plenty of shops. Oulton Broad Yacht Station same prices as Beccles (worth mooring there if the power boat racing is on there on the Thursday night) The main shops are on the street beyond the Wherry Hotel (recently reopened a few months ago) several pubs for meals. Reedham village mooring there are some provisions available from the post office a few pubs to choose from, I prefer to moor at the Reeham Ferry, (boats mooring can use the pubs showers situated in both toilets out of hours by using the side entrance near the red telephone box) good meals and I know I am sad but I love watching the ferry going backwards and forwards. There is a mooring charge overnight but not that much. Loddon up the River Chet is a great village with a staithe at the end, there are some electric posts, water and toilets. Oposite the car park is a great cafe next door one of those late opening stores that sells everything, up the road is a co-op, four pubs to choose from all serving meals. Brundall if you go pass through Brundall you will see a small 24 hour mooring it only has space for a couple of boats but up the path from here will take you to the church and the shops there is Budgens that sell again almost everything you may need. Going towards Norwich you will get to the Ferry Inn good meals here and a few electric posts (I think you can reserve moorings) Bramerton 24 hour moorings is very good with an electric post towards the far end of the mooring (dump it site at this end near the road) short walk along the lane to Woods End Tavern (last time we were in the meal was good) or you can moor outside the pub, watch out for the jetty it can be slippy. Some people will moor at the Norwich Yacht Station but if you do make sure it is inside the gates, we found it to noisy so we went back to the short little leg that as 24 hour mooring (good spot to moor if you want to into Norwich by bus, just over the railway bridge and 150 yards up to the main road, the bus stop is on the left. Enjoy your time on the boat. Regards Alan
  24. Hello John, You think maybe it is bad now with all the changes to the people attending your meet. Wait until you have to sort out the everyones bill for the meal. Best of luck with that. Regards Alan
