  1. Yes Sue, Herts was pretty light too. I understand the fish round the coast had a hell of a battering!
  2. What worries me is that people paid three bob for it!
  3. Important points that are rarely mentioned in threads like these. If cruising at night please remember that more often than not it will be dark. This happens regularly on the broads, more so in the winter. Also in the winter it tends to be cold, especially when the temperature drops. Nights tend to be colder than days because there is usually a lot less sunshine at night. If you don't like it when its cold and dark then winter night time navigating really isn't for you. Should you wish for any further advice, please don't hesitate in asking. Oh, PS. If you are sightseeing at night it's advisable to use a torch.
  4. There really is some very sad pond-life around these days! Edited to add that this is in no way any reflection on GENUINE pond life. Some of my best friends are newtlike
  5. Nope, no shacks chalets or shenanigans, maybe a hidden tool shed if I can make it secure enough but that would be it! Any boozing to be done will be aboard Nyx. True BB, Much homework to do including how to put a covenant on it if necessary.
  6. For some time now I've been thinking about buying some woodland. Ideally it would have some form of protection against being built on. The only 'development' I'd want would be a landing stage (so obviously it would have to be riverside) and would need to have vehicle access. My intention would be conservation, limited woodland husbandry, pollarding and replanting. The level of habitat building would depend on the size of the plot. Northern or southern waters, either would be great. Do any of you who are lucky enough to live in the area know of anything along those lines being available?
  7. I've just had a lunatic idea (not really surprising I suppose) Ok, so the winner of a quiz has the option of setting the next one. How about that person also sets the time and day their quiz will run. That way there will be some indication as to the best times/days! Told you it was loony!
  8. So! Andy, How did you do it? That was a joke!! Honest Guv, it was ... really it was!!! Seriously though, Shouldn't a web hosting company know how to defend it's customers against such things?
  9. Is a DDOS attack an intentional piece of IT sabotage? or is it a weakness within the system?
  10. I also am looking forwards to another of his books, each one seems just that little bit better than the last. I'm going to have to check up on something though, Loribear, are you reading them in the right order? I seem to remember it as Waterproof, Still Waters, Water Frolic then Water under the bridge! Mind you, I might be wrong,!
  11. Ahh good, I thought I'd have to drop my windscreen to get under!
  12. He has only recently gone to this hosting site, up to now I think problems had been put down to 'teething' but it seems more like 'poor service' now. Not a good advert for the hosting company!
  13. Thanks Alan, (ranworth breeze) I too dislike 'forum bashing' and hope it's avoided here. I find myself in the position of having many friends each on the forums, some of whom belong to only one, but not the same one! Consequently I need to use all three. Each forum for me has something to offer that the other two lack, yet each lacks something that the other two both have. Such is life! Sometimes I cannot put my finger on what it is that's there or what it is that's lacking.... it just 'IS' !!! It is purely information I am asking for here, for example to be informed if a member finds that the NBF comes back for a short while, and if progress is being made regarding the problems it's having. I have no interest in 'good riddance to bad rubbish' posts nor really do I have much interest in the technical reasons for the outage, as I don't understand them. I DO know that an awful lot of people work very hard indeed to keep these forums up and running and am grateful to each and every one of them . So I ask ..... Please keep this thread friendly and informative, I'd hate to see it locked or removed owing to acidic comments. Edited to add.... Thanks H.A. I was writing this as you posted.
  14. I notice with some interest that the NBF is down again. Perhaps more interesting is the fact that on this occasion nobody seems to have mentioned it on this forum. Is there any reason for this? In the past such outages have been logged here, and those who are members of both forums have been kept informed. I am well aware that there are those who have private (or sometimes not so private) beefs with other forums, but so many people are members of more than one broads forum, that I'm just a little surprised that this outage is mentioned on the 'third' forum but not this one. I use neither facebook nor twitter, and have no great wish to start doing so. I very much hope that the small number of aggrieved ex-nbf members are not influencing the content of this forum, as that would be unfortunate!
  15. The JTF guide to keeping warm. When cold, warmth can be obtained by rubbing two footmen together. If you are VERY poor, just get your one footman to rub himself together. Freshly laundered bed linin can still retain some warmth from the smoothing iron. Have your maid make the bed just before you retire there. If still cold do not feel ashamed to instruct your butler to give the maid extra blankets for your bed. If all the above fails, you may be ill. instruct your butler to call your physician and have your chauffer stand by. Simples!!!
  16. Yeah, I remember my formative years too. No pocket money until I'd polished the silver, an extra guinea if I helped Soams wash the car. Keeping an eye on the pheasant shoot would be good for a few quid too. Sometimes people don't realise what poverty we used to live in.
  17. Gordon, Your mother already knew that her kids did the plants no good, so wouldn't have mentioned that concern further. I run several Tilley lamps when fishing, it's surprising how robust those mantles are until actually touched by anything. In 1964 we hired "Fancy Free" from Richardson's that had gas lighting in the saloon and electric in the cabins. Completely useless for playing cards by in the evenings.
  18. I want to put CB on mine but it needs to be a quickly droppable one and without a ground plane
  19. Well! What more can I say? Is there such a thing? I had a battery signal amp but can't tell if it does anything with a digital signal. How can I find out? I need a TV on board for after dark to keep me out of the pubs!!!
  20. But if you have twitter, you can follow people like "Keith Lemon" and "Tara Palmer-Tomkinson" It makes life really worth living don't it! innit.
  21. Well, it's boxing day now. The weather will really clamp down for the winter. Snow will come as will rain wind and anything else unpleasant. Can I stop being nice to people now???
  22. Very nice. Thanks BB and a merry one to you too
  23. Don't you just love it when the opportunity comes along to be a total smart**se. Yes indeed I can say, hand on heart "Yes that is my boat", but then I'd have to add... "but the photo was taken before I owned it" It doesn't look quite like that at the moment
