  1. Hi there all, I've just found a picture of the space I've been talking about, just below the cooker and has a vent. How large a hole do people think I can make where that vent is? Still not mastered attaching pics
  2. Even if there is a Hoseasons logo on the bow, it still might be private, or is there some physical reason why the boat couldn't be there?
  3. and if it's been there for twelve months you can say "Happy newel year"
  4. A poor soul's got to keep warm you know, and lets face it, it'll soon be cheaper to burn teak rather than electricity!!! (I've got some of that too )
  5. Naah matey, I got some me'ogany to use up! It's gotta be on the boat or in the wood burner. Nice frame, door hinged at the bottom, no worries!
  6. Thanks Clive, I shall press ahead with some of the modifications I have in mind.
  7. One of the things I have noticed over the years is the way that the larger the boat, the more the available space is wasted. My first boat was a 16' marine ply cruiser. I was able to sleep 3 people for a long weekend (it was the Queen's silver jubilee) . Tight, yes but doable. Now three boats and just over 35 years later I have a boat some 11 feet longer, yet I reckon there is only minimally more stowage and 3 people would still be almost as tight a fit. Sitting looking at the inside of my boat in the summer, I couldn't help but notice where so much space was wasted, and now I wonder if I can do something about it. Ok, the boat... She is an Elysian Bounty 27 aft cockpit. The way she was constructed was (I think) by building the hull, putting in fibreglass mouldings for the bunks galley etc. then plopping the cabin top on afterwards. Now, that's just fine and dandy, but it's those Bunk and galley mouldings that waste space. Before I start cutting holes in them, I need to find out how much they are a part of the basic strength of the boat. Under the cooker for example there is, I estimate, about 2 cubic feet of space albeit wedge shaped. At the moment there is just a ventilation grill. I am thinking of removing that grill,. enlarging the hole and putting a small door there, thus turning it into a cupboard, and then placing the grill on the cupboard door! Firstly, would that be ok as far as the BSS and the vent is concerned? but mainly, will making that access point weaken the overall structure of the boat?
  8. My Bounty 27 "Nyx" requires 6' 3" at Potter, Yours looks similar only with a hard top. I reckon your guess of 8' will be pretty close. Perhaps Jason will be along soon with a more informed answer. Rats!!! Thought I'd attached a pic!
  9. An air draft of 8' and a deep Vee hull make me bet on the top image of the two Strow. Very nice craft whichever. Edited to add... Whoops too slow again. Yes JawsOrca I see what you mean about tidy working, much like me really! That gelcoat looks very good, no need to paint by the looks!
  10. Ask the barfly Trevor, ask the barfly!
  11. It's a tricky balance! No communications equals peace and tranquillity yet having full communications might make the difference of whether or not you can have a broads holiday!
  12. "But dont fear! the betting shop is re opening in 3 weeks time as an Indian Restrant... A SECOND ONE!!!" I wonder if we're heading for a 'too many Indians not enough chefs' situation.
  13. Thanks for the info Matt, I didn't quite understand the twitterspeak but I think I got the gist. A short spell in the can may well be enough to set the lad/fellow straight, probably better than a longer term. Long enough to be unpleasant, not long enough to get used to it! Depending on his age he's probably done far more damage to his future than anything else.
  14. I would not dare to possess such a thing as a two timing maggot... also one of the few things I've never been called!!!
  15. For some years (about ten) my last boat was kept on chocks in a boatyard car park. I started to use it as a base and just ran an extension lead to it from a metered supply. The boat batteries had a charger connected and for the most part I ran my normal 12 volt system. I had a shelf with my "in boat entertainment" (TV etc) on this was 240 volts, so I put a socket up. When I was about to reintroduce my boat to the water, I was told that this arrangement was contrary to the BSS but I never really understood why. Would somebody enlighten me please, using very small words and some pictures I can colour in with my crayons.
  16. Yeah Quo, The recession ended years ago! The politicians are just looking for another reason why nobody's got any money. When they find it they'll let us know. Don't ya just luv 'em eh?
  17. Arghhh Diesel Falcon, wash your mouth out. If Mr Rascal acquired a Mrs Rascal, in next to no time there would be the pitter patter of tiny Rascals and Mr Rascal wouldn't have time to hold any sort of camera at all
  18. Hmmm, I've just done something I should have done a few days ago when things flared up a bit. I've just re-read the post I put in, that therealist objected to. I hope he will now accept my apology as I can see the post clearly appeared aimed at him. This was not my intention but, the way I phrased it, had I been in his shoes I would have concluded the same. The first sentence was in response to therealist's comment about people going defensive. The rest of the post should have been phrased to indicate clearly that my comments were aimed more generally and should have read… “If someone doesn’t like Richards forum they shouldn’t go there, and they should keep any vitriolic comments to themselves.” No forum is a place to attack other forums, That is my opinion and I stand by it. I dislike editing posts as that can make the whole thread read like nonsense, so instead, as I brought his PM into the public eye it would be churlish if my apology to therealist wasn’t equally public.
  19. Going by the annual get together in June, normally attended by well over 100 members and given the number of regular contributors who I've never met I would give the roughest of guesses and say an active membership of well over 250, very possibly double that. Some of the financial contributors, I agree, tend to publicize their generosity in a manner that I too find distasteful but that's down to them not Richard. I remember some time ago I tried to work out roughly how many active members there were Some people have more than one ID for a kick off, this might be for any one of many reasons, so using very rounded figures lets start with 9000 members. Say 1000 have 2 IDs that gives us 8000. a quarter of those post just the once before they go on a broads holiday. Were down to 6000 and of those how about half leave because they don't like it or someone in it. 3000. Now lets say of those, half just fade off. That still leaves us with about 1500 members of which perhaps as I suggested earlier 500 are active posters. That's still not a bad headcount. Now, all that is just my opinion and a lot of off the cuff guesswork, but it wouldn't surprise me if I wasn't too far from the mark.
  20. Does he suffer fools gladly, Well! I should know, I've been using them for years and will continue to do so. I agree with Realist, I'll use who, as and when appropriate. I'd rather be on my boat than in my car trying to save a couple of quid. Price-wise, I've known them to be cheaper on occasions than their competition, OK, that's rare, but it has happened. I needed 8 fenders a while back. Norfolk marine were offering 4 for the price of three, so a 25% discount. Nowhere else came close. Not only that but they blew them up for me, so that was their inflated price! May I now direct you to my opening sentence. !
  21. From what you say Andy, I doubt it will go further than a police caution and, unless the 'little scamps' are already under one, that might be enough to put them back on the rails. We can only live in hope.
